Probably the 6th gen. From the top of my head the big three really kicked into gear with PS2, Gamecube and Xbox. Even Saga had a console too with the Dreamcast. Also the handhelds N-Gage and Gameboy Advance/SP/Micro.

Fourth, because of the SNES.
