Me: Everybody should play video games, if you ask me. It keeps your mind sharp and actually helps with concentration and things like decision-making under pressure.
Customer 2: Really? Is that real?
Me: Yeah. There's been several studies on it. One of them had surgeons play just like 15 minutes of video games before going in to perform a surgery, and they performed better on just about every metric. Surgery was faster, fewer complications, less trauma to the patient's body which meant faster recovery times, you name it.
Customer 1: That's really cool. You know I've never really thought about it like that before, but it does kinda make sense. It's like warming up before a football game.
Me: Exactly. And a whole lot more fun, too!
Customer 2: I do play some video games with my daughter. But nothing serious like you. (*points to my gaming laptop behind the counter*)
Me: Yeah, not many people game as much as I do.
Customer 2: Yeah, we just play like Wii games. You know, old school stuff.
Me: QmY6SVf

2006 was 13 years ago.

Gamecube came out in 2001, 13 years before that was 1988 and the NES, which we called old school at the time.

Time passes, TC.

Because between the NES and Wii there were 4 console generations.

Between the Wii and Switch theres 2. And thats only if you count the switch. Wii was the same gen as 360 and PS3, which was only 1 generation behind the XBONE and PS4

That's one way to look at but consider the following:

NES was 3rd gen, Cube was 6th gen.
We're currently 8th gen, while Wii was 7th gen.

Consider cars.

A "classic" is any car that is more than 15 years old.

An "antique" is any car that is more than 25 years old.

Cars from the Model A all the way up to the 1994 Nissan Altima are considered "antiques". Car enthusiasts may scoff or argue, but the fact of the matter is that these kinds of designations are generational and it's basically a case of "what I grew up with" versus "all the stuff that came before", regardless of how big that library gets.

So too will it be with video games. There's been more than one occasion when I'll watch a video of a Wii game and think to myself "God this looks old". :-P

I dunno about "official" names, but to me a classic car is basically anything from the 60s muscle era to the 90s.

An antique is a Model T to the cars they drive in The Godfather.

I have MTV Classics on my television by default. It plays music videos from the 80', 90's and early 2000's. It always makes my minys boggle a bit when one of those early 2000's videos play. We've come so far, holy hell.

That's exactly my point. There are as many ways to define old school as there are people trying to.

That sort of makes sense for MTV because they stopped showing music videos on all their channels sometime in the early 00s

In the 80's we called movies from the 40's/'50's old classics, even though it was only 30-40 years ago. Well now movies from the 70's 80's now fit that 30-40 years ago range. So 80's movies can not be considered old classics.

What counts as old or "a long ass time ago" different based on how old person talking is. If you are like 22, then yea 14 years ago was a fucking long ass time. But if you are nearing 40, it wasn't that long ago. Someone who played the NES as a little kid in the 80s won't think og the Wii as a very ancient console. Time is relative is my point

I think the problem is with how technology works, If we had very little technological progress in a certain area, then it will seem like not a long time has passed from 2000 to 2019, but if we take a gigantic leaps like the ones we did when it comes to 3D rendering, etc. then just 10 years will seem like a lifetime.

It's kinda like how older people always feel like life is going faster and faster. It's a matter of how much your life changes. The first few years in your life are marked by constant change and no stagnation, so it will seem like they took a LOOOONG time, because of how eventful they were, when in reality it may have just been 10 years. But fast forward to your 30s and you have a stable job, you can go to that job until you're 60 and you'll feel like those 30 years went by in the blink of an eye, since your life has been mostly the same for those 30 years.

Sounds right to me. Assuming you meant "now" instead of "not" near the end, that is.
