So far I am loving this, but I have a question for anyone who knows.

Can you miss out on quests if you progress to the next Chapter, or will quests that I could have accepted in Chapter 1 still be there to pick up when I go back there in Chapter 2 or 3?

Sorry I hope that makes sense

I haven't played the first game in a while, but from what I remember, you don't really need to worry about missing quests like that. In BG2, you can't go back to the first dungeon once you've left, and you can't go back to Amn once you move on to the expansion.

Thanks. The game(EE) has the quests divided into "chapters" which is what threw me off. Im curious if I had waited to pick up those quests in chapter 2 if they would still go under chapter 1 in the journal.

I am really enjoying how open ended this feels, almost like a Bethesda game, only better in a lot of ways

Haven't played the Android version, but researched it; the main complaints I've read relate to it being a clunky on smaller screens

I have the ipad version and i dont think its a good way to play it the first time. The screen is just too small imo.

It is only $5 on steam right now i believe, unless the sale ended already.

I've played them before, just never beat the games. And my gaming laptop is dead and I can't justify paying to fix it right now.

lol i spent like 6 hours trying to decide.

I eventually went with a gnome fighter/mage(illusionist). I got a 94! roll and have 18/54?str and max in every stat (19 int) then i couldnt decide what to do with charisma and wisdom so one is 11 and one is 10 i believe

Iwas gonna dump one of them and max the other, but i decided that i didnt want to be that low from a role play point of view on either stat

Not bad, the only thing I don't like about fighter/illusionists is that in the EE, they can't cast Abjuration spells which means no Protection From Magical Weapons in BG2, but other than that they're a pretty solid choice. Make sure to use Mirror Image and Stoneskins before going into battle. What are your weapon proficiencies?

I took 2 points in dual wield and 2 points in scimitars. I had a tough time deciding what to pick for these to be honest.

I am blown away by how massive this game is haha. And I havent even gotten that far. Im just finishing up exploring the carnival

it's real easy to hit the level cap so you don't have to worry. don't the quests just give experience? don't think they give extra skill points but been years since i played. but the quests you can't go back and do if you beat the chapter. but no a big deal if you don't finish all of them but i usually just do them all anyways for the extra experience.

also after you play both games there is champions of norrath that is basically the same thing. made by the same company but set in the everquest universe. there's 2 of them and both amazing from what i remember.

Scimitars are a decent choice, when you run into a certain drow ranger be sure to save your game and pickpocket him for a good one.

haha, so many tough choices in this game. Right now i just got to the gnoll stronghold and have to make a decision on who I want in my party, and since there a two different sets of pairs, it makes it even harder.

Also I am impressed by just how many companions there ARE

Well after exploring a ton, I have decided to finally go into the mines. Will be tomorrows adventure :)

After I put my 3rd point in dual wielding, what should my second weapon be looking forward toward baldurs gate 2?

There are a lot of good weapons in BG2, so it kind of depends on your weapon proficiency.

In general, the best regarded off-hand weapons are Kundane, Belm, and Defender of Easthaven. Kundand and Belm because they give you an extra attack per round for your main hand weapon and DoE because it gives you a passive 20% damage reduction from slashing, blunt, and piercing damage.

If you just mean what type of weapon to use, Bastard Swords, Flails, Katanas, Scimitars, Maces, Axes, and Long Swords all have good options. Even a couple decent Clubs and Short Swords.

Crom Faeyr (warhammer) is also a pretty good offhand weapon, 25 strength gives you a lot of extra damage on every attack, although the main character can potentially get permanent bonuses that get you close to that without taking up an item slot, as long as you're okay with your alignment turning to evil. A generally well-regarded dual wielding set-up is Foebane (bastard sword) and Belm. You can grab Foebane pretty early into BG2, and once you get the scabbard to upgrade it early into the expansion, it casts Larloch's Minor Drain on every hit which does 1-4 magic damage and heals you for the same amount.

We're almost identical. Except I couldn't play an illusionist because I didn't want to be a gnome. I wanted to play as a beautiful female Elf.

This game is MASSIVE lol.

BG1 has a lot of wide open areas to explore with a lot of empty space. BG2 doesn't do that, for the most part areas have a lot more going on in them.

I actually really enjoy exploring the world and how open ended it feels. I could see how it might not be as amazing when replaying the game though. I am just really impressed with this game. Especially considering its over 20 years old, lol this game is old enough to drink this year!

Honestly this is probably going to end up in my top 5-10 games ever made. Its still that good.

BG1 is great and BG2 just builds on it.

It is fun to transfer your character over too.

If you ever feel like replaying the series (which is easy to do when you can play with different classes and party makeups), I'd suggest looking into the trilogy mod and Ascension.

Trilogy ports the BG1 campaign into BG2 and you play through BG1, SoD, BG2, and ToB as one really long campaign, instead of two separate games that require manually porting a character over to. It includes the additional benefit of characters that appear in both games carrying over consistent stats and abilities.

Ascension is basically a semi-official mod that adds a lot additional content back into the ToB expansion for BG2 and increases the challenge of the big boss battles.

Also, Unfinished Business.
