I chickened out of this a few years back. Or rather, I got a bad bout of food poisoning from KFC when I was initially scheduled to have the procedure. Never rescheduled for some reason. I guess just too worried about the possible side effects and such, even though I personally know people who have done it and called it the best decision of their lives.

Best of luck to you!

Congrats, best decision of my life! Few things for the day of/day after though

- you're really going to want to scratch/itch your eyes, but DON'T
- they're going to give you numbing eyedrops. USE THEM!
- if your eyes still sting/itch after the eyedrops just lay down and try to take a nap. getting lots of sleep is the best way to heal up and feel back to normal

By the second day (after sleeping a ton) my eyes were back to 100% and have been perfect in the years since.

Laser eye surgery done. I can now zap things from afar.

I can also now see things from a distance. The doctor told me it went perfectly. The edges of bright things are still fuzzy, and my eyes are like comically red, and I discovered that I'm really bad at putting in eye drops. Also I slept for two hours as soon as I got home. Currently rocking some sunglasses a nurse gave me.

One thing I notice is that if I close one eye, my right eye's vision is fine, but my left eye's vision is blurry. Hoping that will disappear quickly.

When I had PRK, I was not "asleep" by the legal definition of the word asleep, but I was not conscious and I have no memory of it happening.

Both of these.

I had heard laser eye surgery involved being awake/conscious and the laser being actively zapped in there. How long was it?

I don't know how I wouldn't move, or blink, or panic being stuck there, I'd be way too anxious. But maybe I'll get it someday...

Edit: oh I just caught this:

You have to be awake during he surgery, yes. For my surgery, they shot the laser once into each eye for thirty seconds each.

The doctor inserts A Clockwork Orange-style device into each eye that prevents you from blinking or moving it. You can still move it a little bit, but hes always there to tell you not to. It is intensely uncomfortable because your every instinct is to move it. During the procedure, the non-lasered eye is covered by a cloth so you cant see out of it. After a few seconds, your uncovered eyes vision goes white so you can only see the bright lights of the machine. Not being able to tell whats happening probably helps a lot.

Also, they put so many numbing eye drops in my eyes, you have no idea.

Don't worry about blinking, you literally can't for the reasons Anagram described.

Also, you're on drugs, which helps with the not panicking.

The one I saw involved like a mini claw scraping layers off your eye too. I dunno if thats standard for all of them or what, but that and the laser both sound terrifying to me. At least it doesnt sound like you need an injection in your eyes since I hate needles as well >_>

Just to be clear, the device is directly touching your eyeball? I was picturing Clockwork originally but that was just the eyelids, I think.

I can't bear the thought of touching my eye directly and never wore contacts as a result so the idea of the device getting in there is as bad as the laser! Though the numbing drops helping too, fair enough...

Still sounds good & glad it worked out nicely!

Currently wearing sunglasses indoors because it's still too bright. My left eye can see normally, but my right eye is a bit fuzzy.

I actually did get a needle in my eyes during the pre-op tests the day before. Again, my eyes were so dumb it felt like they were exhausted while the rest of my body was normal.

Yes, the device directly touches your eyeball and holds back the eyelid. I can't really describe what it feels like to have a round metal device touching your eyeball, it's very bizarre.

I'm fine. Every so often I have an impulse to rub my eyes, but the doctor was like 'nooo don't do that.' Aside from that, it basically just feels normal.
