While mobile games are games, calling someone who exclusively plays them a "gamer" is kind of like calling someone that reads Garfield in the paper every few weeks, a comic fan.

It's well known the statistic counts women who played any game ever as "gamers", and that currently, the most popular games for women overall are smartphone games.

The statistic is presented in the way it is to make a specific point about unequal treatment of women despite being dishonest by doing so.

While games like candy crush are technically games. People who play them don't consider themselves gamers. And people who consider themselves gamers don't typically play games like candy crush.

So just because a large number of moms play candy crush doesn't mean there's suddenly a huge amount of female gamers.

Ask any candy crusher what their favorite RPG is and they'll probably give you a blank stare or a puzzled look in return. "What's an RPG?"

I'm 33 this year. I have no intention of stopping playing video games. This notion that you must stop enjoying some entertainment as a certain age is stupid at best. As for just under half of gamers being female? Well yeah girls play games too. It's not surprising when you include the casuals on mobile games too.

Pretty much. Then again, most clickbait and agenda-driven statistics are purposefully misleading or inaccurate so it goes with the territory.
