That is more expensive than anything in the damn machine. I wanted a bag of chips that was only 75 cents but the total was $2.25 just because I used my card instead of cash. Is that normal??

I've heard of extra charges for using a card, like that around here tbh, but that seems... kinda high?

Actually, I got charged $2.45. $1.50 for using a card and $0.95 for the chips. Wtf where did the other 20 cents come from...this is outrageous.

Seriously, I paid more than 3x the price for a bag of air with some chips inside

I think it's kinda high around here, but like.. half that or something? I'll ask my sibling, they're the one who's seen it. But IIRC it was like half the charge you got for using a card?

Still sucks, and they hate it because they don't carry cash. But they rarely use vending machines too at least.

thats normally not allowed. Contact your CC company and report them. Visa and Mastercard I know for a fact do not allow ANYONE who they work with to charge a fee or minimum purchase.

Every vending machine I've seen that accepts cards has a fee for using the card. Merchant service fees are a pain in the ass.

This machine gets stuck often and you have to shake it to free the snack you purchased. Really, why do I bother with this thing still?

I can understand a small fee but sheesh $1.50?? The most expensive thing in the machine is $1.25!

If they have a fee that ridiculous then they don't even deserve people to pay with cash.

I used my card for snacks on a road trip once.

There was a $.25 fee per purchase. Which seems reasonable for the convenience of using a card. And that was on the highwat where prices are jacked up.

Vendors (every single one) allowing debit/credit cards must pay a fee to a merchant service. Those fees are based on whatever contract they've signed. Clearly, they are attempting to discourage the use of cards.

The problem with that is more and more people are moving to cards it seems like.

If you lose it, you cancel and get a new one. If you lose cash, sucks to suck.

Cards are more versatile, you can use them online and IRL.

And some people I know just hate having cash on them for some reason.

I called my credit card company and they said the separate $1.50 should be dropped when it's done pending, and that the machine likely has an extra charge of $0.20 when you use a card. So that's a lot more reasonable. Still, I think I'd rather stick with cash for vending machines.

Actually, that depends on the wallet. Some hold cards better than others.

But they also werent saying one is easier to lose than the other. What they are saying is if you lose cash, its just gone most of the time. But with a card, it doesnt matter because you can cancel or freeze the one you lost. And then order another. Meaning that losing a card doesnt always mean you lost money. Where losing physical money (cash) usually does result in you losing money.

What kind of water-solutable wallet are you using? Cards are held tighter than cash.
