Movie theaters sell an experience with the movie.

they sell the screening of the movie and the facilities to watch it. that would only be true if the food was included with the ticket, but it's an optional (and overpriced) addon

We only buy food from movie theaters as support for the theater, and we don't always. Spouse has been getting popcorn and a drink a bit more, but we don't go see movies a whole lot. A decent amount I guess, depends how much is coming out we really want to see?

Technically there's a reason food is so high priced though.

'When we pay our $10-$15 for our ticket and sit down in a packed theater with about 400 other people, its easy to imagine that the theater is making a killing. But the theater doesnt keep all of that money. Movie theaters, distributors, and studios make a variety of deals with each other, so there isnt one single set of numbers to use. On average, for the first few weeks that a movie is playing in a theater, 70% of the revenue will go to the distributor/studio and 30% will be kept by the movie theater. After those few weeks are over, the numbers will change, possibly switching to the reverse, where the theater keeps 70% and the distributor/studio keeps 30%. The problem, for the theaters, is that by the time they can actually start keeping most of the money, the audience has dramatically shrunken in size.'

We've actually been in showings that were just us less than a week after a film has come out. Sure, some of that has to do with timing, but it's so much different than when I was younger and no matter when you went there'd at least be some people for the entire run of a movie. Felt... weird.

What lesson though?

To not eat food you possibly may want a refund on. If this situation happened to me I'd simply keep the food as you know I bought it and I got what I paid for. When I'm going to eat it is irrelevant to the folk selling me said food.

Id be fine if it were reasonably priced. Or if I had been allowed to bring my own food. But its not reasonably priced, and most places dont allowed outside food. In this case, he never bought the food with the intention on getting a refund. But he did intend to eat it during the film. But the film never played correctly, but his friend had eaten some of the food already. Its understandable to want a full refund. Or, at least to be reasonably charged for the items...

The food is priced as it is because the movie theaters make very little money from people buying tickets. If they charged a more reasonable price for the food most theaters would go out of business.

I know. Thats why I still buy their overpriced shit. But I am saying that I would want a refund if I couldnt enjoy my overpriced food while watching a movie. Im just saying that I probably wouldve been fine without a refund if it was reasonably priced... I wouldnt be happy. But Id probably be fine...

That isn't a reason to get a refund though being as it was the TCs choice to buy them in the first place. I do agree that food in cinemas is overpriced hence why I take in my own.

That's bizzare, a similar thing happened when I saw it. As soon as the previews started the screen and sound cut out. It was just blank. Took like 15 minutes to come back on and then it started the previews from the start which delayed the showing by a bit. Wasn't too bad since it didn't cut out any if the movie, just a bit annoying.

Kinda reminds me when I saw DBZ Resurrection F, at some point it gets paused and I could see the computer screen for a second, and then it's started back up. Jarring as fuck but rather amusing.
