It has to do with the offer Epic is giving buyers for spending more than $14.99. Since you'll receive an additional $10 off of more expensive games, it creates a scenario where games are now being devalued before they even launch. While Epic is taking the hit with regard to its own profits for that deal, it is creating a scenario where the publishers cannot compete on other platforms for the same games (Bloodlines 2 is not an Epic exclusive).

Yep.

I can see why the devs are pulling the games out of a surprise sale that they didn't know about.

And fools actually believe Epic is pro developers LOL.

Another odd case comes with Supergiant's Hades. Originally listed at a sale price of $6.99, the developer quietly raised the price of the game to $24.99 and altered the sale price to be $14.99. While the increased price was something Supergiant always intended to do as it added content (the game launched in early access with the Epic Games Store last year), it originally pledged to inform buyers well in advance of any price hikes. With Epic surprising the world with this mega sale, Supergiant felt the need to increase the price at the last minute. The studio has since apologized, but this could have all been avoided if Epic was more transparent with the publishers and developers it is hosting.

As for the consumer experience, this sale has showcased just how lacking the Epic storefront is. Since there still isn't a shopping cart function, users that are attempting to buy more than a handful of games are reporting their accounts getting locked down to prevent fraud. There's also no way to gift your friends titles, which means you're unable to surprise your friend with a game they may like. You can't even create a wishlist to inform you of sales prices, something that seems basic by today's standards.

lmfao @ both of these, how the hell. How do they not have a SHOPPING CART FEATURE in 2019 SERIOUSLY.

What is wrong with these idiots?

Nordstrom buys the backpack and then resells it.

If Nordstrom decides to sell a 250 backpack for 10 dollars, Nordstrom is the one to take the hit.

Epic Games does not do this. They provide a platform for the publisher to sell a game directly to the customer, and then they take a small cut of the sale.

So if Epic Games decides to arbitrarily sell a 60 dollar game for 50 dollars without the publisher's consent, they are now directly cutting into the publisher's profits.

Totally wrong. The $10 is coming out of Epics pockets. They are doing this as a promotion to get more customers. The manufacturer is still getting the full value of their product. This is like when Amazon sold Lady Gagas album for $1 in order to get you to use their music service. Gaga still got the full profit.

The issue above listed was a publisher felt their game would lose value by appearing cheaper since they feel customers would associate their game as less quality since its not selling for full price. Not sure I agree but thats their argument. Not that Epic is giving them less money per sale.

And this is, by extension, forcing games off the platform simply because Epic is incompetent.

And then the whole accounts getting locked to "prevent fraud" simply because they were too stupid to launch their platform with a fucking shopping cart feature.

They are devaluing their games with a surprise sale that the devs didn't even know about. In the Nordstrom case the suppliers already consented and the sale is from the pockets of Nordstrom and not Ted Baker.

Protip: Nordstrom doesnt need to ask for permission for flat discounts.

Again, Epic's reduced cut could be leveraged to corner the market and make more money for publishers.

30% cut on $60 means a publisher gets $42.
12% cut on $50 means a publisher gets $44.

But, for some dumb reason, publishers are pissed off when Epic takes a loss, just because the game has to be $60 for some unknown reason. I thought it was just Nintendo who is this stubborn.

Good job missing the point. People don't mind the sales, the sale itself isn't an issue for consumers. It is for devs, however. By adding a 10 dollar discount on top of any game out of their own pockets isn't a bad thing, but it also applies to pre-orders. While the devs won't take a hit now, since they are getting the difference straight from Epic, it does devaluate the game.

Instead of going for the original launch price of 60, it now goes for 50. By the time the game launches in 2020 (talking about Bloodlines 2) they are unable to compete on other storefronts for their own game. Lots of people will not buy the game day 1, since the know it was available for 50as pre-order, meaning the dev will lose out on lots of early release sales.

All the while Epic claims to be pro developers, this move actually fucks them over.

But yes, keep playing ignorant.
