Board 8 > I've got an urge to play through a Pokemon game. Which one?

The announcement of Sword & Shield rekindled my desire to play through a Pokemon game, and it's been a minute since I've actually completed one. I finished ORAS but that was... god, 5 years ago already. I liked SM just fine, but I wasn't in the mood for it when it came out so my playthrough fizzled out after the second island. I bought Let's Go for the kids and haven't touched it. I do play Go pretty regularly, but that's not enough. I need something meaty.

How was USUM? I didn't keep up with that enough to know how much it changed from SM. Is it anything like the leap from BW to B2W2? Is it worth buying that instead of playing through SM or Let's Go?

USUM is harder than SM by a significant amount, but otherwise didnt change too much. It isnt a sequel like B2W2 and thus doesnt have as much new content.

I suggest just finishing SM, you already have it.

Let's Go is fun, but not if you want something meaty and yeah, USUM is basically just an expansion of SM, so not worth it if you've got SM.

Does it have to be a mainline game? Could play Detective Pikachu?

USUM is better than SM in every way, but not by much
It doesn't worth extra $40, so if you have SM..just replay it

It really isn't bad, just mash A in cutscenes and turn off exp-share

And I do not recommend Let's Go
The game is EXACTLY like you think it is - so if you want it, go for it
But if you looked at the trailers and expected anything more from it - then don't

99% of the maps are the same, 99% of the text is the same, barely anything new in terms of added events
Just having the original 151 (+2) with today standards is lame

Do either SM or USUM have a decent post-game? I think Let's Go is just battling hard versions of all 151 pokemon, right?

It has a couple of extra fights, like re-challenging the gyms and E4 and some special fights against specific characters, but yeah, it's mostly the Master trainers.Oh, and catching Mewtwo, of course.

Best one for postgame is ORAS or HGSS. Or BW2

USUM's postgame can basically go on as long as you want it to since you can find legendaries whenever you want (I think) and then there's the battle tree as well as island guardians and champion rematches.

Let's Go only has the challenge trainers, Cerulean Cave and matches with Red and Green iirc

well I decided to stick with Sun, but it turns out my SD card went to crap so I had to buy a new one. luckily I didn't lose any saves, but I've spent all day transferring and redownloading things.
