Board 8 > Red Hot Chili Peppers VS Foo Fighters: prepping for a rock-topic.....

These are my two favorite rock bands, but I've probably only listened to like half of their albums. I've decided it's about time to hear their other half though (and relisten to what I already know I'm into) so we can settle the greatest question of our time: which band is better, Red Hot Chili Peppers or Foo Fighters?

Three things:

1) Gauging interest -- just post and I'll tag you when I actually launch this.

2) What songs am I missing if I go just by Wiki's lists of their studio albums?

RHCP is an all-time fave for me, but Foo Fighters are good too.

Foo Fighters tracks often have to have 2-3 repeat listens though for me to get really attached to certain songs.

RHCP got a bit ruined for me by a buddy who was wayyy too into them

I've admittedly not listened to a lot of the Foo Fighters discography, but I feel like the Chili Peppers have consistently made some great music.

I agree that Everlong is one of the greatest songs of all-time, though. Almost definitely in my top 5. I got to listen to it live last year and it was an experience, to say the least.

So tell me if I'm wrong here, but for a format like this I figure it's best to just go album-for-album in order of first release. That's mean RHCP has the first five write-ups but FF has a bit more density in the second half of the eventual topic.

Alternatively, I could just go back and forth between bands. RHCP has two more studio albums, but it could end up finishing real close to just being back and forth like this.

And as far as personal preference I prefer foo fighters, but it's not an easy choice. I definitely have some phases where a particular album from one or the other really hits the spot. There were definitely a few months in 2011 that I'm not sure I listened to anything other than stadium arcadium, for example. But on the whole it still has to be FF.

Definitely RCHP, but they really just fit my vibe better.

RHCP. Seen them live twice and they were phenomenal both times, one of my absolute favourite bands.
That's not to take anything away from FF, I think they're great just not a top band of mine. I do think Dave Grohl is one of the most talented musicians on the planet. He can do everything and do it all excellently. Walking After You is one the best songs ever imo.

There's only one band I'd stand in line to see tonight.

neither band is a particular favorite of mine but: peppers.

i'm of the unpopular opinion that their glory days were in the '80s. after BSSM they started to go downhill imo.

Any songs you think of are encouraged to be mentioned here! I think Stadium Arcadium had some unreleased songs that leaked out later or something...? Plus there's always the extra song or two on greatest hits-compilations. What can you tell me to look out for?

And yeah, Love Roller Coaster was good. Don't know Sikamikanico.

Fight Like A Brave tops everything Foo has ever done!

I consider Foo to be a good band, but Peppers are great for me, so this was an easy pick for me.

Yeah I think they had recorded close to 40 tracks for that album. Not sure about the leak but a lot of their unreleased work ended up a B-tracks on the singles they released

Soul to Squeeze I think is their most popular song not to be included on a studio album. However, I think it is also a very mediocre song so I don't mind not listening to it ever.

Curious to hear what you think of their first 3 albums if you hadn't heard them before. Completely different sound.

So basically, nothing from RHCP's first half of their career besides a greatest hits-album with a few songs and nothing from Foo Fighter's second half of their career.

If I had to pick one over the other I guess it would be Foo. I just always felt weird about them after Nirvana but at least they sing songs about things other than California
