What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will, usually, feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually around a week before the end of the month
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for every chosen game that you beat
- Each game you nominate has to be unique from all other nominations and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a chosen game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month

Made it to Stove Canyon in Wario Land. I have but one treasure to my name (C I think?). I'm trying to go through each level thoroughly since I doubt that I will be returning to them, but I have somehow stumbled upon each of the first two boss fights prematurely. I don't care for the dragon power-up as I can't dash, but due to me reaching the boss fights earlier than planned, I've had to make due, not that the boss fights are difficult by any stretch of the imagination.

started up wario land tonight

playing through the first level again my memory of it tells me I remember it as a great sort of "puzzle" platformer in that the platforming itself isn't great but the puzzles and way to do levels is fun. it's very slow but has some fun stuff like the post level puzzles and lots of secret entrances, and how some levels change after you beat them. pretty innovative game for its time.

anyway im gonna try to 100% it since it wont take that much longer i think but its def slower than i remember. wario needs to be able to run or crouch slide.

OH YEAH i forgot all about the treasures too, gotta get all those. though im gonna try to beat it first without getting any if i can so wario gets the shitty house maybe. also like how he runs around the ending goals faster in later levels

I had previously played the intro of Octodad, but I am now up to the grocery store visit. I also just learned there was a health meter. I didn't die, but I saw this purple meter start to fill up and was confused

Started it last night and finished it up this afternoon, including the two bonus levels. A very silly game with some heart. I really enjoyed it!

I am up to Syrup Castle in Wario Land. I somehow am up to seven treasures now after barely getting any across the first few worlds. This also reminds me that I have no idea what is going on this game. I'm sure the physical manual would explain things a bit, but all I recall from the intro is Wario chasing a pirate ship back and forth only to end up on a beach. I know Captain Syrup from Shake It and one of the other WL games, so I assume that pirate ship was hers, but that's about all I know.

wario land 1 was basically him going to steal treasure from pirates (who stole it from the mushroom kingdom I guess) before mario could get it back in order to buy a castle after he got kicked out of mario's castle in mario land 2.

Started God of War.

Started on hard difficulty- that lasted until the first enemy showed up, lol. Balanced(aka normal) is pretty much right though!

6 hours later, still exploring all the locales around the lake. There's a lot to see.

KCF has beaten Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land

I ended up with a log cabin. I looked up an ending chart after, and that's pretty good considering I only found eight treasures and totally skipped the post-level mini-games after Rice Beach. There's also apparently an optional world that I didn't know about.

yup! that's where a lot of the first treasures are. It's the ice world and it's a secret from the 2nd level in Mt Teapot. I forget exactly how you do it off hand, I think its a discolored background where theres actually a ledge offscreen above you.

I was planning on resuming Octodad, but I can't find my Xbox One controller adapter, and that is not the kind of game I want to be using keyboard controls I think.

Warioland beated. Got the best ending with the 5 moneybags/all treasures (why does a Genie demand Wario pay for the castle that he wished for, what a goddamn gyp). I think it's a birdhouse or s/t if you don't get any treasures.

I made substantial progress in Octodad and will hopefully beat it within the next day as it seems I am very close to the end. I really enjoyed the segments that you spent with each family member separately at the aquarium the most.

I had to laugh at my first failure this game. It was at the grocery store and I had gotten stuck in the jam spill in the back. I am terrible at using the arms, so I was flailing the mop around completely missing the pools of jam. I was hoping that the mop could physically hit the chef and buy me some time, but I wasn't so fortunate.

The stats say that I failed a second time, but I am honestly drawing a blank. I assume it has to be while I was on the ship.

I've beaten God of War.

I'm... satisfied by the journey. As Kratos and Atreyus are.
I kind of doubt I'll go for full completion, though, it's possible. I have beaten only one of the Valkeries, and there being a new game plus mode does give me a means to repeat the story if that's what I feel like doing another time.

KCF has beaten Octodad: Dadliest Catch

I don't know how many ties there were, but I only picked up three.

This entire time, I assumed that you were a stepfather, but the ending implies the children were born after you and Scarlet were together. Obviously nothing in this game is to be taken seriously, but I keep trying to think of remotely plausible reasons why/how Scarlet was a stowaway on that ship.

I remember how I failed the second time. I was trying to sneak around some of the ship crew members, but due to the swaying, I accidentally fell into the ocean.

I'm going to go ahead and give my noms, though they are subject to change if information comes out they are leaving Game Pass by early June or so.

I was going to go into a different direction for noms, but after getting on my XB1 and seeing they were offering 3 months Game Pass for $1, I decided to check out how different the collection of games were from when I did the 10-ish day trial run back in early January. I was blown away from the volume of games and how many were games I have had interest in. I think I wrote down something around 35 titles to remember to at least give a whirl.

Next month is also when the annual Steam summer sale begins, so I will choose some games that are also available on Steam
