My friend showed it to me, I like the concept and I have a couple thousand I could spare and I've always been looking to invest. I know it's not necessarily a hardcore investment app but it's still probably better than letting things rot in savings.

Yeah that's what the general consensus seems to be there :\

I decided to roll with a Robin Hood account and drop $1k on random shit.

I mean not *totally* random shit, I bought a few shares from a couple ETFs, one Microsoft share and a few VWs.

Because my friend recommended me I also got a free share of... Chesapeake Energy which has lost 85% of its value over the last 5 years. I'm excited to see where that goes >_>.

Lol you should do some research on Chesapeake if you want a quick, morbid laugh. It'll also give you some insight why both you and I received that as our first gifted stock on RH lmao

Just buy etfs

I mean if you want to put the work in to know how to pick and time individual stocks go for it, but it's not some casual hobby and there are a plenty of pitfalls for an amateur investor

I would recommend splitting between 3 different etfs, one that tracks the s&p, one that tracks foreign indexes, and one for growth. Put the same amount in every month to average yourself in, and do not sell if you're down, buy
