As part of this deal, the companies have to offer (poorly publicized) free options to low-income users.

https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

Most people just go to Turbotax and pay them when you can use other providers and pay $0 if your AGI is below $66K.

The "free" option that you have to wait 5 weeks after approval to get a paper check in the mail.

That has nothing to do with it, that's the IRS processing your return and approving the refund and paper checks take longer than direct deposits.

On the contrary, the only time "both sides" is applicable is when they compromise with one another. The rest of the time they're vastly different from each other.

Bipartisanship is an amazing thing we should strive for, just not with a corrupt establishment that has roots in both parties, which is what we have.

No, it really doesn't work out.
With bipartisanship you are constantly compromising. Your side never gets 100% of what it wants and you're constantly having to give up progress to the other party.
Really what people want is their side to be united and the other side to be compromising.

This isn't something that is a problem with American politics, it's just an issue of bipartisanship in politics.

maybe you should move to a better state like mine

took me five minutes to file state taxes and only that long because i had to recalc whether i wanted to use the federal standard deduction or itemize in md

also then we could play board games.

So my post was actually a bit of a hot take. If you look at most of the bills passed, they're already pretty bipartisan
It's just that they're not really substantive. Which makes sense, the whole point of parties is to connect with people who agree with you on various positions... they're supposed to disagree. Once you get a majority in Congress and the president is the same party, you pass your desired legislation. Bipartisan bills by nature dont do much because there isnt much the two parties agree on that is substantive (except for crap like the Patriot Act)
