A FEW QUICK RULES
PLEASE;
1. Be respectful to each other.
2. No politics or religion. (There are endless other topics for that stuff.)
3. Remember that what works for you may not work for others.

Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about anything health and/or fitness related you like. I'll start with a few things about me and my fitness goals and approach to reach them.

In early March (this year) I finally got sick of my sedentary lifestyle. I was about 210 pounds and feeling lousy most of the time. So I took a look at my diet and decided it had to change dramatically. I immediately removed all junk food and processed foods. I went shopping and got lean proteins and veggies.

After a few days of detoxifying my body I started exercising on my brother's stationary bike. I rode for 5 miles and thought it was a nice start. In the shower afterwards I discovered I had saddle sores from that dang seat.

The next day I rode again with the seat cover this time and got to 7 miles. I rode again the following day for about 7.5 miles. My caloric in-take was about 1700 those first few days. Instead of taking the 4th day off entirely I chose to workout with dumbbells.

I went on like that since then and I'm up to 16 miles in 40 minutes each day now. I've got a long way to go still, but I'm down to about 195 pounds (as of last Tuesday) and feeling really focused. I've only taken a few days off and had 1 slice of cake on my birthday. I rode 15 miles that day, so it was fine. I haven't been this goal-oriented in a very long time. Tomorrow I'll reach and pass 250 total miles since I started.

Giving up sugar was the hardest thing for me to do, but now I only eat natural sugars in the apple I eat each day. I was a little worried my birthday cake might get me eating sweets again, but I'm very motivated to stop being overweight.

Tell us your story. Maybe we can help encourage each other.

Speaking of, I hope that topic doesn't somehow die before the 6 months are up making it harder to remember >_>

Congrats man!
Taking that first step is the most important one.

About 3 years ago I did the same thing and have loved the results. I was skinny fat and decided to make some changes. I bought some weights and transformed my body. I was a super lean 165lbs down from 195lbs.

Since then I've fucked up more than one bulk cycle and managed to acquire some minor injuries but that was just part of the learning process. It got it through my head that experts know what they're talking about. I got on a better routine where I don't hurt myself and have managed to get up to a not fat 205lbs.

I'm cutting now to get back my abs for summer but I'm much happier with how I look. Being stronger is good too, but tbh I'm only in it for glamour muscles.

I've set my weekly goal at 2 pounds per week. I've been hitting it, or a little more, each week. I was a little worried about trying to go to fast, but mostly for health reasons. The last thing I want is to get hurt or malnourished and end up delaying my progress. Especially if that caused me to get depressed. It'd be really hard to stay on track if depression kicks in.

Nothing wrong with differing motivations, but really, I think we all want to look good. It's human nature I think. Also, my goal has me around 175 for July 4th if I stay focused. Perfect for the beach.

i been working out on and off for years but i either lost motivation or got injuries and stopped. i'm on another cycle and this time it's a lot better. i'm gaining more mass since i've dedicated two 1k cal shakes a day, on top of a meal which is awesome for me since i hate meals. the shakes are pricey though, but with progress and no need to eat physical meals i'm happy. gained 5 lbs so far over 1-2 months, so doing well there.

one of these days i'll become eugen sandow.

Yeah that's not bad. And it sounds like you have slight depression. Trying to focus on that is going to be the best chance for turning the weight issue around TBQH

I think all I really need to do , is get running just one day and that might kick start be back to normal. For some reason my ankle started to hurt a few weeks back so much so I couldn't run and that is what got me on this bad track. Then the depression kicked in . Funny I went to the doctor about my ankle and he was like I don't no whats wrong with it. Let's talk about something else .

There have been several days when I just wasn't feeling it, but I asked myself which I wanted more; to be in better shape or sweating my fat ass off all summer sitting in front of my air-conditioner. I've done the latter long enough now. It's time to get back to how I used to feel and look.

I'm not saying this is the answer for anyone except me. The only person I'm competing with and trying to out-do is me from yesterday. I will say that I always feel good after exercising. On those days I want to sit and do nothing I start feeling good about 2 miles in. There's something to be said for the endorphin rush that seems to elevate my mood.

Today I got up to 18 miles in 45 minutes! That's big for me. 20 miles is right around the corner. Also, I forgot to add my miles from yesterday to my total and I had actually gone over 250 miles on yesterday's ride! That was a nice surprise this morning.

A quick note on cheat days. I find that since Monday is the worst day of the week that making it a cheat day gives me something to really look forward to. Just a thought.

I hope you're all doing well today.

I mean if you're just looking for actual lbs, then essentially you have to dehydrate yourself. Results vary of course but you can lose a few pounds in a day or so. You'll feel like crap of course, because the body needs water to function properly.

If you're looking for a healthy way to lose weight, calories in < calories out. Most people are overweight due to unhealthy food choices rather than a lack of exercise. Meal prep and sticking to a diet goes a long way even, and with a decent workout routine you can lose pounds within a week.

This is pretty accurate. "Water weight" (waste, bloating, etc.) can be a significant amount, but dehydrating yourself is DANGEROUS. Please keep that in mind if you're trying to make the scale go down, quickly.

Really, the best answer (not for everyone, but works for people without diabetes, etc.) is that you want to burn more calories than you eat. There are apps/sites that can tell you how many calories you need to survive (they call it BMR; basal metabolic rate) VS how many calories you need to maintain your current weight, lose weight, etc.

If you want to lose FAT (and not just "weight") then you might want to start lifting weights. It will help you burn calories WHILE building muscle. (Building lean muscle is fine; you don't have to try to lift HEAVY weights or anything, if that thought is intimidating.)

But, if you just want to lose weight for now, (and don't care about gaining muscle,) then cardio might be an ideal fit for you. You can start off with something easy, like walking or riding a recumbent bike, to keep the stress off your joints, and then start doing some more difficult stuff like hiking or using a stair climber. (Climbing stairs can be tough, so pace yourself if you go that route.)

There are a lot of ways to lose "weight" that can be fun and less stressful than most people think, but the basic methodology is and has always been the same: burn more calories than you take in.

[FTR - I would NEVER suggest that someone starve themselves, but I also understand that some people can handle that while others, like me, cannot. So, do what works for you, but remember that if you can't physically do it for the rest of your life, then it's not sustainable. And if it's not sustainable, eventually you might backslide and gain back all the weight.]

Sorry for the long post.

tl;dr burn more calories than you eat. :)

Easy ways to start losing weight is to literally drink nothing but water. If you tend to drink anything sugary at all it is surprising how much sugar and shit is in it all.

I stopped drinking pop and within a month lost like 10-15 pounds.

Right now I'm powerlifting, running, and cutting, my body is always in pain and I feel like shit. I honestly feel like I need gear to keep this up.

Anyone have experience with gear? My T levels are below average but that was just total test so it doesn't paint the whole picture. I plan on going to an endocrinologist to see if I legitimately need anything. I'm pissed that as a weight lifting male in my 20's that my T levels are anything less than above average.

Not a brag, by any means, but I have unusually high T, so I don't need gear, thus I've never used it.

As someone on the other side, I can tell you that while the grass may seem greener, it is no fun being my age (withheld because... CE) and having erections 20+ times a day. My girlfriend is like, "Dude, go take care of that or something. I'm fucking tired." xD (If I don't laugh, I'll cry, lol.) :D

Interval sprints coupled with a clean diet, -no- cheat days, and damn sure no alcohol.

Once you lose the first ten pounds, start incorporating weight training into your routine and the weight will begin melting off of you.

Gotta make it a life style and not just a "phew let me get through this work out/diet phase", cause if you do that, you'll simply pile the weight back on.

Next time you reach for junk food you know you shouldn't be eating, just rememer that it's easier to avoid that junk food altogether than it is to go to the gym and spend an hour burning it off.

I didn't think you had ED or anything, just that you're frustrated by your T results. Maybe you're overtraining? How often do you lift? If it's more than 3 times a week and you're trying to get strong, you might want to try scaling it back a bit to see if that helps.

I hear you. I mean, I'm not even 6' and barely weigh 160, but I don't really lift "heavy." (My "best" lift is a 400# deadlift, which is 2.5X my weight, so I'm okay with that. But I don't "ego lift," so I never really tried to get strong.)

I'm more excited to do high volume training, which is what my main focus is, usually. (My "best" day of training like that was 100K chest and triceps, which took me over 3 hours, but that's my jam - long, strenuous workouts.) :)

Ayy! Had my first 20 mile day on the bike today. I'm at 292 miles total since 3/12. It's seeming like more than just a phase this time. I'm loving the way I feel after exercise and my appetite has leveled off to where my caloric in-take is slightly under my daily goal. I'm not hungry. Not craving sugar like I used to. Drinking more than 8 cups of water per day. I think I'll stick to 20 mile rides for a while. Maybe try to bring my time down. I was just under 50 mins for 20 miles earlier.

Anyway, that EscapeFromNY dude seems to know his stuff. I know it's Hell, but Kurt Russell! Screw you guys.

Low carb except before and after training. Pretty basic. Are you thinking about competing?

I am also very anti-IIFYM (if it fits your macros). Sure, I know friends who espouse that and get ripped, but I'm sorry, you'll get better results if the same amount of carbs come from quinoa than donuts. I still let loose with my diet sometimes and will eat sweets because I try to time it with my workout and I go through a lot of calories doing Muay Thai, but I'm under no illusions that that's the same as eating something healthier.

I have life ruining IBS so lifting has been like banging my head against a wall for the last 5 years.

My diet now consists of rice, rice krispies, and rice krispies with raw sugar. This seems to be all I can eat in large amounts which won't cause me to shit myself.

My lifts have improved over the last few weeks on this god awful diet.

I'm more excited to do high volume training, which is what my main focus is, usually. (My "best" day of training like that was 100K chest and triceps, which took me over 3 hours, but that's my jam - long, strenuous workouts.) :)

I have shitty aesthetics so I'm not that big on big volume days.

I feel like no matter what I do I just spin my wheels.

When was the last time you did a deload?

I really should exercise more. I've gotten really lazy the last few years.

I've been lifting more recently and doing less cardio.

Yesterday, 45 minutes of weight lifting, and 1 hour of stationary bike while playing Breath of fire 3(helps pass the time since I'm literally going nowhere.)

Awesome, thats more or less what I figured. I try to avoid fad diets and IIFYM. Im doing a lot more cooking at home which I think is helping. Im going to some competition in Dallas Im July 27, but I dont remember which federation. The guy who runs the gym I go to convinced me to go.
