CD players always were a kind of extra, you really should have discussed the presence of one with the dealership. Doubt they would be that much extra.

Can't you get a third-party car stereo? My dad has one that can play CDs, MP3 CDs, and has a 3.5mm jack, a USB port, and Bluetooth.

Aftermarket stereos aren't terribly expensive. I spent like $250 for a top of the line Kenwood eXcellon with everything: HD radio, SiriusXM, bluetooth, MP3, dual USB ports, aux input, and of course CD.

Yes, radio sucks. It rarely plays anything that I want to hear. That's why I'm thankful for the many music.streaming services that are available.

I own an MP3 player(yes, a standalone, music only device) I preload music onto myself like as if it were 2006. So not having a CD player isnt weird, so long as it has AUX.

I'd want a CD player in case I ever find a CD I want to listen to, say, at a thrift store, but at the same time it doesnt really matter too much.

However cars from the mid 00s before companies realized an AUX port was super useful with only CD and radio would kill me.

Though it is easy enough to buy an aftermarket deck...they never look right in any car I feel. The factory setup looks the best and most natural for obvious reasons, most aftermarket decks ive seen look funny in some cars.

But then you're stuck paying a subscription. I'd rather spend $10 on a CD and be done. Built up a pretty good collection over the years.

Spotify subscription is $10 a month and you have access to near limitless music. You could literally spend thousands of dollars on CDs and still would not have the same kind of access to music. Would take years of collecting, or a massive purchase if you have that kind of money, to even attempt to have a library as deep as Spotify.

If it has a tape player, you can buy an adapter that lets you plug in your phone or MP3 player. They're like $10 at Walmart.

Thats where a phone can come in handy if you ever wanted another reason to one. They have a lot of memory. Especially for music. And its easy and quick to add and remove songs on them.

And with a streaming service, you might not even need to add them. Streaming services are always really good because you can use them to basically listen to songs without having to buy a CD. Which can suck if you dont really like them as much as you thought you did/would after purchasing the CD. Though you can listen to part or all in certain stores.

Streaming services will also use what you listen to to find other bands and songs you might like. Which can introduce you to new music you would have never found without it.

Most do. One in here doesnt. It CDs are also good. Personally, I have a lot. I dont Use them much because I can connect my phone. But CDs arent completely gone yet... I bought my new truck only a few years ago. And it definitely had a CD player. It might be something to do with the make/model most likely...

Sure, a phone will certainly lower my cost of entry...

I have a player from Sony with a ton of memory but it has no internet capabilities. Much like games I buy what I like and rarely end up with a stinker. Amazon or YT are the only places I can find new bands.

Then new things aren't good enough if they can't support common items. Or I just don't buy 'em. How hard is it to add a CD player anyway?

Vinyl is preferred because the audio is stored analog, it's genuinely a superior platform for storage fidelity.

When places stop selling CDs, then I feel like what you said will make more sense. But CDs are still being sold new in MANY locations.

Things shouldn't be sold new if there's no expectation of ways to use them new as well IMO.

You all know you can rip CDs, right?

We were doing that in 2008. Anyone using CDs is stuck in 2000.

In 2019 people use streaming apps and bluetooth. Yeah, there's a subscription, but you get almost every song ever made plus all the new songs, and you can download anything for "free".

I rented a "KIA Soul" recently for a business trip. Never even been in a KIA before.

The wretched thing only had a radio in it, which I refused to even turn on. I must have ripped half the dashboard apart looking for the disc tray. I just couldn't believe that any vehicle made these days would not have a music player.

I hadn't seen a car come equipped with only a radio in perhaps thirty years. What a PoS! My condolences to anyone who actually purchased on of those turds.

Ten hours of silence during that trip. I'll never rent a KIA again. Now, I make sure there is a disc player before I rent anything. Let the buyer/renter beware.
