His family was trash and hated him though. The episode kinda made him look weak. I was half expecting a line after the brother thing to be "well he wasn't as much of a c*** as my father." Maybe I'm not remembering well but they were shit to Sam last season iirc

that doesn't mean it's nice to hear they've been executed. especially for his brother. you can see his reaction change from when he thought it was just his dad to both his dad and brother. I don't think he really had any reason to hate his brother

Guys, it's not about setting everything up. The episode was dull, show's been going downhill for the last few seasons and some of us were hoping the last season would be a return to the first three seasons level of quality

if you were hoping for a show that was once good to return to form, you've come to the wrong place.

that being said, i didn't think this episode was half as bad as most of the shit that was diarrheaed at us last season.

i think he'll end up feeling pity for his brother but not being very mad at Dany for it. i think he realizes that Dickon never really had much of an identity besides being his father's son, and the fact that he would value that over his own life is actually just kinda pathetic.

I mean yeah he clearly wasn't pleased and that's understandable in his position... like he could have and should have hidden it better. His reaction is going to be a point of contention. Trust is hurt.

He could have been neutral and just kinda non-reacted and downplayed, to ensure his security.

Better yet, he could have played up to their shittiness and been like "my father was an asshole. To you, he was a random who didn't bend the knee. I'd have done the same." (Granted that could backfire or negate trust if her reaction was "well shit he doesn't care about his family so.....) and the inverse of that is "well he at least feels loyal to his family even if they sucked"

A case can be made either way tbh.

What.

Daenarys just told him that she killed his father and brother. She's neither dumb nor heartless enough to think he's not going to be upset by that.

And I don't want to say it's the actors fault but

I was expecting a teaching moment where she would learn how her actions as a ruler affect other people, basically showing her what Tyrion was trying to tell her when he urged her not to kill them, but she just stands there emotionless. No empathy, no remorse, just nothing.

She could have at least been like, oh shit man, I didnt know. Sorry.

I also raised an eyebrow at her not knowing he was a Tarly before they met. Jorah apparently told her about him beforehand. Did he not know his name?

Pretty meh episode. We could have had at least a taste of what the WW can do when they overran Last Hearth, but instead we got that fanservice-y makeout scene at the waterfall. We'll probably never get to see Bran and Jamie have a heart to heart either so that's a shame.

Theon rescuing Asha was weird. Is it really that easy to rescue people from the goddamn Crow's Eye?

Agree about Dany too. She's as much of a robot as Bran, whom everyone was complaining about last season. It's a shame that all that discord the writers are trying to sew between her and Jon and Sansa is gonna be just a big obvious red herring.

My little head canon is Jamie only saw Bran with that dumb look on his face, and so until their next interaction, he's just thinking "oh jeez, I gave that kid brain damage, there's no way I'm making it out of this series alive". Bran is just the worst character though, and I refuse to believe anyone lies him.

I'm disappointed it looks like Asha is just going to kinda chill out on the Iron Islands for the rest of the series, I was hoping she would be more important.

I hope this series ends with a nice twist, so its not just Dany, Jon, or Cersei ruling to end it all. Something crazy too, like Tormund becoming King

Maybe it's just Emilia Clarke's acting in the scenes. *shrugs* She just comes off as cold and uncaring.

Maybe it just pales in comparison to Cersei's ability to pull it off so well.

I am really, really hoping that Sam interferes with Daenerys' plans somehow. This show used to be good about showing that actions have consequences, often violent ones. Besides, they kind of hinted at it by having Sam run to Jon, so he could reveal Jon's heritage. No way Sam didn't anticipate that could be a conflict for Jon or at least the rest of the Northerners.

that Daenerys-Samwell Tarly scene was fine. it opened with Daenerys and Jorah entering the library to return the gratitude for the cure. As soon as House Tarly is brought up, the mood shifts for everyone. it was visibly uncomfortable for her and Jorah to bring Sam the news about his family. Sam attempts to save face but if distraught about his brother's demise. disheartened about his family he ran outta there like a bat from hell only to meet Bran.

Its Bran who tells Sam to tell Jon Snow about his lineage. soon we see Jon try to defend Daenerys' action only to have it thrown back at him. Sam seemed apprehensive about Daenerys rule as her claim led her to a war over the iron throne. Sam brings Jon back down from his Daenerys high to tell him he has the right to the iron throne... and how that impacts Jon and Daenerys will play out in the remaining episodes
