Eva and Hideyoshi do die early an awful lot. They basically only had a long run in episode 3.

But Battler just decides that nah that doesn't count, it really is Battler that Beato must hate.

Oh and Virgilia red texts us that Battler is never the killer. Cool. Good to have that confirmed.

If this is true, it'd imply that Beato had something against Battler even before the ep1 tea party where he rejects her

Which makes sense, the end of ep 4 clearly revealed she has some grudge against him

Battler keeps bringing it back to that nonsensical fact. "Since the riddle doesn't matter to her, the killing doesn't matter to her either, so she's doing this for a reason even though none of it matters" and I still don't follow but ok

Battler continues to theorize that both are meaningless, but combining them must have a meaning.

Obviously this reminds me of (zero escape spoilers) the way it is revealed that basically the entire reason all the puzzles and deaths and etc exist is just for the sake of giving the characters SOMETHING to be doing, to get them to a heightened state I wonder if it's something similar here.

"natsuhi was really scared about people learning the truth about kinzo, so she murdered her daughter and 5 other people" is just not a story i'm gonna believe atm.

maybe the beginning of the chapter was a mislead? and where's the illegitimate son? these murders have gotta happen right about now, it's almost midnight, but i don't feel she has enough of a motive yet...?

This is kinda silly? I am confused though because as much as the game can just come up with new stuff whenever it wants, we did get red text saying the number of people is the same.

These are sort of the biggest mysteries in the game imo

Like that episode 1 letter that appeared in the study when the survivors were holed up in it

Or the one that appeared in the living room in, what, episode 2? When it was just, like, Battler and Rosa and no one else really...?

Surely there's no magical mumbo jumbo or fake narration getting in the way of my understanding of those letters...

Apparently everyone has an "alibi" because those in the guest house couldn't have come deliver a letter

And we know Natsuhi and Krauss didn't do it

So either Genji did (very possible, clearly the guy will just do literally anything he's told, his morals actually suck for someone so "noble")

Or those guest house alibis aren't as strong as they say. Which seems likely. "The doors were locked" whatever, anyone could sneak out.

you do have to admit, the level of stress that natsuhi must be feeling, even with just one of these problems, would already be immense. to throw in an illegitimate son trying to expose your dirtiest secrets at the same time is truly unbearable. poor natsuhi. even if this is non-canon.

of course, the game could be trying to make some sort of point with this.

i can say this is "non-canon" because lamda clearly just came up with some hidden son

but i also said that i accepted that the witches were real, even if it's just as characters? entities that appear on my screen.

rudolf pulls a "we need to talk. oh and i will die", which he hasn't done since episode 1.

but this time he clearly says it's about battler's birth. yeah, convenient of you to mention this only after beatrice reveals it to us during the climax of the first game!

Kinzo's reaction to learning the baby died was to say "I saw this coming! I knew this would happen! How long will you struggle? How long will it be before you're mine?"

As if he thought the baby was a reincarnation of Beatrice and jumped off the cliff to get away from him

Is that human-Beatrice related to the orphanage in some way...? Weird...

there's no need to point out contradictions in the game's magic-world but here's one:

gaap only showed up in episode 4 because the island has become "weakened" enough for more demons to get through

but gaap was there 19 years ago and killed the baby???

also, lol, so the reason natsuhi is so scared of the truth coming out is because she... wished a baby died, and they did in an accident? and she believes it's her fault?

my god, natsuhi really is too, too innocent!

so the son doesn't exist and it's just lambda playing magic

which means it's not real?

which means natsuhi imagines it all or it's a story she tells herself when she's really alone in her room talkign to no one on the phone?

but how did genji get the call

so this entire chapter is just... more nonsense...

I don't get it, was Bernkastel always this much of an obnoxious jerk? I thought she was pretty mild back in the first half of Question Arcs... now she's just straight up evil? Whatever...

the second day

At this point the story basically is conflating the meta Beatrice with the actual culprit. The meta Beatrice has always been a stand-in for the real culprit, who presents themself as Beatrice in reality. So when Battler is talking about Beatrice's motives for committing murder, he's really talking about the culprit, whose form is being concealed behind meta Beatrice.

i like the idea that battler was so tired last night that he came into the guest room and fell asleep next to 4 corpses without realizing it

as if to make the chapter even more ridiculous, erika uses magical power to force everyone to accept her as a detective allowed to investigate the crime scene

really hard to take this seriously =/ we've thrown away all pretenses of anything in this chapter being even somewhat realistic

Did the artist change between Questions and Answers...? Whenever a character gets a new sprite, it just seems strangely different. And Erika also doesn't look quite the same as the rest.

kanon goes to wake genji up (he dead, i know) and kumasawa strangely inserts herself, insisting she go with him "to see what genji looks like asleep"

maybe the new sprites are only weird to me because they're new, idk

ok so the illegitimate son (except it's not even that, it's just an orphan baby with no actual connection to natsuhi, but she's so innocent that she's treating it like she really did do something wrong) tells her to hide in a closet at 1:00

so basically this person is going to commit the murders and frame natsuhi by continuously removing her alibi

i'm pretty meh on this all but i'm curious where it goes at least, this chapter will have to reveal *something* in the end, right...?

I guess it could be that Natsuhi is the killer and all these phonecalls are a thing she has "imagined" (and we are therefore seeing) to justify to herself why it happened

god i hate bernkastel and her stupid evil smile sprite which she has 90% of the time now

what the fuck happened to this character?

there wasn't even a twist or anything, she just went from "mild and relatively good witch" to "obnoxious evil hag" for no real reason

did the writers not know what they were doing with her????????????

why does the piece-beatrice know that bernkastel and lambda are running things, and talk as if she understands that...?

and she's appearing in the "tea party" room, which is very confusing, because it makes it seem like it is present-beato? but it's not, because she's still comatose?

this game is weird

and Erika is one of the worst fictional characters I've ever experienced

Natsuhi's inner monologue is strangely suspicious if we're meant to think she's innocent

Her thoughts tell us that she cares more about protecting the secret than she does about Jessica dying

why is Natsuhi so worried about them opening up the study and finding kinzo is gone

if anything, now would be the perfect time

"oh, he's disappeared. must be related to how krauss disappeared and how people died! damn! the killer got into the study too i guess!"

the characters are all strangely even more cheerful than usual after the first set of murders, as they all playfully banter about climbing a ladder to get to kinzo's room
