Day 18 - https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/77639956

Results, day 17:
Under the Moon < Pac Twin Attack, 21-26
Re:Vanishment > Super Oriental Insomniac, 29-17
Warning Call > VISIONNERZ, 24-22

One of the closer days overall that we've had so far. I also find it amusing that these tracks, alphabetically, start with PRSUVW.

Sorry, slow was probably the wrong word. But it's a certain type of song that appeals to a certain type of voter I feel, and most of those have not done well this year.

Back when I first started participating in VGMC, I remember a couple times I missed a day of voting and the song I would've voted for ended up losing by one vote. I've been trying to keep on top of it ever since. And with the User Compatibility Spreadsheets of these last two years, I've been trying to keep up 100% attendance!

Ignith of the Final Attack > Golden Ridge (Golden Feather Mix), 34-13

@MycroProcessor

I owe you a big apology. I know how exciting it is to have even one song you've been rooting for get into the contest, let alone more than 5. I'm aware that I can give a proper opinion without being whiny, obnoxious or overly-critical (which I tend to be). It was never my intention to attack you or your tastes (I've actually always admired your hearing abilities, even if our actual tastes are too far apart), but I know I've done it so I give you my word that I'll be more respectful in my write-ups from now on.

Thanks for the apology~! and hey don't worry about it too much, I know in many ways too I overreacted myself.

I think the big thing is that it was particularly insulting to know that the stuff I picked was being judged unfairly before even being listened to though. Partially that it was judged for being obscure (which shouldn't have any bearing on the music's quality, and I have the awkward luck of what speaks to me most tending to be ultra-obscure)

but...especially insulting was that it was judged by the fact that on my uploads I had taken the extra mile to record a visualizer (which was something I thought about doing for /other/ people's nominations even whenever possible, since it's possible with pretty much any chiptune/sequenced format thing where the sources are available. So it applies to like at least 30 other tracks in the contest, not just things I nommed or care about, and I know you're not judgemental of chiptunes/sequenced stuff as a whole you literally nominated brain lord!).

I guess the fact that I'd taken that extra effort to show something cool alongside the music that I didn't even need to do....only for it to be reacted to with preconceived negativity toward the music before even listening to it...hurt a lot. Especially since I'd considered offering to record visuals like that for every track it was possible with in the contest (and it would've included your brain lord noms if they'd gotten in, it applied to half your noms last year too). Was just really disheartening, I wasn't bothered so much by people disliking my picks but the things you picked on didn't even have anything to do with the music and that's where I got upset.

I understand you probably didn't think about that nor did it intend to come across that way, but thank you for apologizing!

human brains are really good at finding patterns. if you've seen 6 songs with the same style of visualizer so far and hated 5 of them, you're bound to have a feeling of disgust as soon as you open that 7th one before the music even starts playing. it's impossible to avoid.

now of course you can be polite and not mention it but this is VGMC we're talking about, where negativity is the highest virtue.

I mean he literally reacted that way to the first song in this contest to show up like that.

again, not that he or anyone doesn't have the right to dislike the music itself. It's just tedious to point out the pattern, irrelevant to the music itself, and shit on the extra effort someone even went to to provide that visual, which could've been provided on ANY song, to his taste or not.

Yeah, judging something for being obscure is pretty dumb, although I wasn't particularly thinking right since I tend to root for underdogs in virtually everything. I was actually just condensing a certain group of songs (the ones with the visualizer) into something I wasn't being fond of. In my missing write-up for the day with Sakura's Theme (for reference), I was writing about why I wasn't enjoying them and it was partially because I somehow felt that I needed a different image so that my own self could picture a context that helped me understand the song more. I don't want this to be taken the wrong way, though; that's just me, and it's a weird thing since I can listen to mp3's of VGM without the need for that (last year we had a song in the Side Bracket, whose name I don't remember right now [The Farm Of Princess?], that I really liked), but maybe it's just that, in general, the actual structure of the songs I criticized isn't as conventional as, say, a steady song with 4/4s or something like that. I know: What's the point of needing a context for a song when you have to judge only the song itself? What happens in this particular case is that for some weird reason I can't focus on the track 100%; but I don't know, maybe it's just overall rush/laziness from my behalf! Again, that's just me.

I guess the fact that I'd taken that extra effort to show something cool alongside the music that I didn't even need to do....only for it to be reacted to with preconceived negativity toward the music before even listening to it...hurt a lot. Wow... I didn't know you would take the time and effort to do that! Actually, I didn't know you recorded the visualizers in the first place! I suspected that you nominated most of these, but I never imagined you made that as well.

I understand you probably didn't think about that nor did it intend to come across that way, but thank you for apologizing!

With Alchemist's Haven losing I think I'm done (Especially after being up by like 7 votes). I have a couple songs left but I'm sure they will all lose in R2 and I can't be fucked watching that happen.

I went into this maybe hoping to find some new songs that I'd actually enjoy that I'd never heard before and I did (Stage B3 and Chocolate Missile) but overall 90% of the tracks were under 5/10 for me and it's just not worth it any more. Have fun with your contest, I'm sure I won't be missed anyways.

Was it worth it to hear 2 new songs I enjoyed that I'd never heard before?

Probably not, but *shrug*

Heartbreaking day, but incredible to watch unfold. At 9:55:00 all three were at 24-24. I quickly made some ugly Excel graphs showing the running totals with maximum difference as each of the 50 votes came in:

sGS338J

MargaretAnnMid's post at 9:55:14 decided all three matches, while I just ended up doubling those votes at 9:59:42. Five minutes earlier and I'd have to be the one bearing that weight!
