Usually pointless cast analyze/use an item on every enemy in the game.

Killing them is never good enough.

Exactly.

What do you get for doing it?

Nothing! I HAVE to do it now!

If you get a reward for it (and no a title isn't good enough) I'm ok with it.
Like a new weapon or costume as a reward makes me feel better about it.

Arc Rise Fantasia had the worst one. Not only did you have to use an item for a scan...there were TWO drop entries and TWO steal entries (said steal entries were there even in the unwinnable fights). Fun times given how difficult quite a few of the fights can be, so you'd be resetting a LOT if you wanted everything filled.

The worst is games with enemies you can never encounter again after clearing an area.

Fuck that.

That's why I like the bestiaries in FFs/Square RPGs in general. They're filled when you kill them, and regular battle or boss music plays depending on the type of enemy

I did the (extremely) tedious and unfun task of filling Tales of Symphonia's bestiary.

If you kill an enemy, you get its portrait in the book, but nothing else. You must get a drop for it to be recorded, and you must get a steal for that to be recorded. To get monster stats, you have to use a Magic Lens. But if you want a monster's LOCATION, you have to use a Magic Lens with RAINE (except for enemies you cannot fight with her in the party).

Now, you only need all the monster portraits to get the title reward. I just filled it completely because I'm a masochist

Majestic Hero encounters Lowly Thief!
Majestic Hero: I don't have this enemies information yet!
Majestic Hero casts 'Scan' on Lowly Thief

Lowly Thief is just that, a lowly thief. He never possessed the advanced skills to be a pickpocket, and instead relies on ambush to rob his prey. He has been trying to buy his way in to the local guild, but between supporting his wife and their three impoverished children, he has been unable to move them out of Shanty Town, or save enough for the Guild Dues.

Rule of Thumb: Never scan, just blast them.

Time is a funny thing. There is always too much of it, except when you need it the most. Then there is never enough.

I am so happy that I'm not a completionist and these things don't bug me. Godspeed to all of you that have that compulsion.

BoF4 did it right. Don't remember if there actually a menu option for the beastiary, but once you killed them it was easy to pull up their info during battle with no item/spell needed.

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.
