Still can't find either of my GBA-SPs and it's driving me crazy. I want to play a used copy of the Primal Rage GB game that I picked up the other week, despite recalling the port being kinda lousy (and, tbh, the original game sold more on aesthetics than mechanics)

Original four? Are you not counting Wasp? Or are you excluding Hulk?

Yeah, everybody was an X-Men kid.

Only for certain age groups. Go back far enough and the X-Men weren't that popular (the book was almost canceled back in the 60s), and for the last decade or so they've basically been squelched in favor of the Avengers due to movie rights issues. And even when they WERE on top, some kids were more DC than Marvel (especially during the Batman/Superman/Justice League era of the DCAU).

But yeah, for most of us here, we all sort of fall into the prime demo for when the X-Men were the #1 property.

It doesn't show much, which is probably why it looks intriguing (considering that we see Kylo just randomly attacking somebody and it might be a face-turn). However, what the fuck was up with the laughter at the end? And the title of the film? Plus why does Ray's face look photoshopped onto her body at first?

The titles of this current trilogy continue to be amazingly dumb. Calling it The Rise of Skywalker feels like a blatant attempt to scrub the stench of The Last Jedi away, but confirms my early thoughts that it's impossible at this point for this whole trilogy to turn out good.

Also, that Palpatine laugh...how the fuck are they going to shoehorn him in at this point? I'm guessing/hoping it's only him in Force/Ghost form, but even then. Christ, do away with the EU, and we are only a step away from Palpatine Clones, ironically one of the crap parts they should definitely have ditched.

No, Episode VIII was an attempt to pander to certain groups, but they also made the mistake of giving it to a director who enjoys fucking with audiences.

This one is the desperate Hail Mary play where they attempt to shoehorn every single thing they can think of that Star Wars fans like, no matter how ridiculous or out of place, in an attempt to trick them back into the fold.

As the release date for this gets closer, I wouldn't even be surprised if they added a shot or two of Boba Fett and were all like "Hey, he totally escaped the sarlaac, and now he's back! Wheee!"

Granted, they didn't get Unpersoned as badly as the Fantastic Four did, but Marvel really gave up on them pretty hard for the last decade or so. They more or less openly admitted it (I forget which staffer said it, and I forget the exact wording, but it basically boiled down to "If you have two properties, and with one of them to get back 100% of your profits, and for another you only get part of the profits, which one are you going to spend most of your time promoting?").

Solo was an adequately produced mediocre movie that never needed to be made. That alone doomed it before a single scene was filmed.

Though it doesn't help that they gave into one of the worst sins of prequels, which is where they feel like they're obligated to show every single thing ever mentioned before. How he'd get the name, how'd he get the gun, how'd he get the ship, how'd he get the wookie, hey here's Lando, etc. You can tell someone sat down, watched the original trilogy, and then just wrote down every single thing Han says or implies about his past and immediately jotted down how they needed a scene to reference it.

Part of why that sucks is because it makes for a lazy, disjointed plot to some extent, but part of why it sucks is because it implies everything interesting about him happened in a single narrow window of his life. Like, nothing outside of that period matters enough for him to ever bring it up, which lessens him as a character, because it implies that most of the time, he's just a boring asshole. A much better way to handle it would be to show one or two minor fanservice references, but then have him make even more mentions of past events. For every reference you explain, you should be making at least three more.

(Plus, don't radically alter the character arc of your character from the original films by changing his personality in the prequel. It sort of undercuts the entire point of doing a prequel at all.)

(Also plus, they never should have shown the Kessel Run, because it's become a massive knot of stupidity, that was never going to satisfy anyone (see also, why Star Trek should never show Kirk taking the Kobayashi Maru.)

The prequel trilogy suffered from a bit of overshow-itis ("Luke mentioned the Clone Wars, better explain the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan talks about meeting Anakin as a pilot, better shoehorn in some BS about an 8-year old kid being an awesome pilot."), though it admittedly wasn't the worst sin the prequels commit.

I like the IDEA of Rifts. But it comes from that era of rules-heavy games that overcomplicate everything, which becomes a turn-off for me.

There are better games that simulate that same sort of premise without all the rules.

For being phased out of MvC, Wolverine is pretty prominently pictured on the box art... oh, right, Infinite is the most recent one, not MvC3. And the absence of Wolverine is pretty insane. (Granted, MvC3 was *still* only 8 years ago and Wolverine will likely appear in the next version of Infinite.)

Granted, I understand the logic of promoting other properties, but the X-Men are probably always going to be a cash cow. And I should mention that, with the obvious exception of LA movies, Marvel in general seemingly hasn't been doing as much as they had in the past.

Also: Good call on what I said earlier. There are more than four founding Avengers. I remembered it incorrectly. Been a while since I read that particular Marvel Essentials.

And I think I just tell myself MVC Infinite doesn't exist. Not sure why. I've never played it. I thought MVC3 was all right, but I couldn't get psyched up for Infinite. ... I've never gotten Street Fighter V, either.

I suppose they want to see if there is a market for a disc free console, bit Microsoft should learn from Apple. You tell the market what they want, not rhe other way around.

Though if next generation is similar to this gen, all of the exclusive games worth playing will be on the Playstation and not the XBox anyway, so it will be no loss.

Yes, to pretend like there's some form of regulation in order to trick governments into not getting involved with regulation. Otherwise it's kind of a laughably ineffective in any meaningful way (see also the Loot Box controversy).

I have zero concern over Sony censoring things in the same way that I didn't care when Nintendo did it in the 1980s/1990s. Partly because it's not THEM making a moral judgment and forcing it on others as much as it is caving into societal pressure (ie, don't blame the PS, blame the US), but also because I'm not playing ecchi fanservice games on my Playstation anyway (and I actually dislike overt fanservice in anime or games that aren't explictly hentai).

I sort of lump this into the same sort of category as I do consoles basically refusing to carry AO-rated games for pretty much forever in the US - we've been a sexually repressed culture for years, and until that changes we're never going to stop seeing sexual censorship or shaming. Essentially, don't hate the players, hate the game.

You're not wrong, PO, but this is a case where it's a lot easier to target the symptoms (e.g. individual companies and their policies) than it is to target the overall malaise that is American culture and its deep-seated, hypocritical Puritanism. The only way to fix that is to wait and let time carry off one generation after another while hoping that every twenty-year shift brings incremental change instead of just putting different clothes on the same misdirected hysteria again and again.

5-6 year cycles have always been the norm, though. I mean, consoles SHOULD last longer than that, but they know consumers will just snap up the next big thing and move on from the last easily.

It's even more embarrassing for Sony and Microsoft, though, since they build and market their consoles as tech powerhouses meant to last. So it just looks like a joke when the only difference they can hype between the PS4 and PS5 is 8K play, which is a joke, considering we've only NOW have gotten 4K TVs to reach mass market saturation. They are hyping their new console over a small, incremental difference that not even 1% of consumers have access to anyways. MS is more or less in same boat, except somehow even dumber, if they think disc-less is going to fly.

Nintendo gets a pass, because they actually radically change their consoles each time (although I hazard to guess that the Switch will more or less be the template going forward).

Yeah, but then you're effectively punishing someone for it who have themselves already been punished by the same thing you're complaining about. Shitting on Sony specifically for it or demanding that they cater to YOUR ideological position rather than someone ELSE's ideological position just traps them in a no-win scenario and does absolutely nothing to solve the overarching problem.

The interesting thing to see will be whether or not that sort of sexually repressed mentality continues to be a cultural force in the future, as generations of people who grew up with the Internet and tidal waves of free porn look at the world in entirely different ways. But cultural mores tend to be very deep-seated, and can persist for a long time even in the wake of sociological changes. So we'll see.

Or someone will see, anyway - some of us will likely be dead before any significant change occurs.

They are hyping their new console over a small, incremental difference that not even 1% of consumers have access to anyways. MS is more or less in same boat, except somehow even dumber, if they think disc-less is going to fly.

tbh, it's not unlike the ps3 coming out when BR was still in its relative infancy. They try to push something as an advantage at a time when it's too soon to be a real advantage and then it pretty quickly gets outmoded for that use.

Nintendo gets a pass, because they actually radically change their consoles each time (although I hazard to guess that the Switch will more or less be the template going forward).

I dislike the trend solely because it seems designed to preempt handhelds, which is the only real area that Nintendo has absolutely dominated in recent years.

My 2 year wedding anniversary is tomorrow. I can't believe have been married for two whole years. I can't believe that someone has pit yo iwith me for a decade and hasn't poisoned my food or drink to the point of death.

On other thoughts I too wish the console generation was longer and I am quite happy with my PS4. Consoles should last longer, but also thatvjustvoant the market any longer. The games are getting better, but now the developers have to learn to program for a new generation again, meaning 2 to 3 years before we see super high quality games again.

Still can't see paying for YT Red or whatever. Will have to see if it's linked to Youtube TV or something since I think I know a guy with a subscription to that where I might be able to just borrow his account for a weekend or something.

At least some movies that were behind the YT Red paywall have since been released on DVD, it's possible they might eventually release that series as well. Assuming you're willing to pay for it that way as an alternative.

"Rhetoric? In a sewer?"
