Whoops

Hopefully it's as simple as re recording all his lines with someone else. I'm unsure if the character he plays shares his likeness or not

When this happened with yakuza 4 they completely Changed how that character looked when they rereleased it on PS 4

They completely changed how the character looked and re-recorded all his lines so that he was almost a different character all together.

Probably will be delayed a bit which sucks.

His likeness is used for his character and apparently its a fairly prominent role so theyve gotta get a new face too

They also deleted all tweets on their JP twitter that ever mentioned the game, and wiped it from the SEGA website, though going directly to the URL redirects you to their public statement about the situation

Drugs are a big deal in Japan, even something tame like weed. Cocaine is actually dangerous!

Yeah entire anime series have been canceled even after production was completed because a single voice actor was caught with weed

Getting caught with any drugs or even being accused of drug use is a career ender in Japan

The one thing Im not sure of is whether the public actually cares so deeply about it, or if its more media and institutional pressure to not be perceived as promoting drug use that causes companies to take the nuclear option in situations like this

They are really really weird about drugs in both Japan and Korea from my experience. Disinformation is rampant. I met someone who thought if you took drugs once you basically went crazy permanently. Part of it is the powerful alcohol industry does whatever it takes to preserve their place as the drug of choice in culture.

Because Japan is crazy ass strict when it comes to drugs. The guy who made the music for the Kaiji and Death Note is in jail for 10 years for marijuana possession.

Yeah this is just one of those cultural things. Even the suggestion that a Japanese celebrity is doing drugs (not even coke but minor stuff like weed) is grounds for their career being instantly ended. Other Asian countries do decades of jail for drug use and hand out death sentences for dealing so as absurd as it is to us this isn't bad relatively.

Hopefully this doesn't affect the localization since they've really been busting their butts on it. Actor is almost certain to be visually replaced and have his lines re-recorded as well so I guess I hope they get someone who can retain the spirit of the original performance.

If people want to do cocaine then let them. Sure it's dangerous but so is alcohol and smoking and we let people do that.

Legalized it would at least mean the supply was purer. Cocaine is bad but it's usually the extra shit put in there that does more harm to people

I think I meant terrible sentence.

But I'm not against the legalizing of recreational drugs at pretty much any level. I also think there's probably a blurry line where recreational becomes ethically reckless. So I'm kind of fine for it being discouraged by small penalties.

Just getting rid of his voice would still be pretty weird considering there's a segment where you need to find his head by following his voice, lol.

Edit: but they're just changing it to a new VA.

Criminalizing drugs only creates more addicts who don't get treatment.

And how does your comment not apply equally to alcohol...?

Actually not criminalizing drugs creates more addicts because there's no deterrence from trying it.

Part of sentencing for addicts is to attend rehab. You can't force it, but that's not a problem with the system.

And if you think alcoholics are just as bad, again, you've never lived next door to a meth addict, or you've never lived next door to an alcoholic. They're not remotely comparable and to compare them only exposes your ignorance.

I'm more worried about children of abusers than neighbors. And alcohol is pretty fucking awful in that respect.

Like an alcoholic will be loud and obnoxious, but they're still grounded to some extent. You can expect them to generally go to sleep at roughly the same hours as people do, and keep their loudness to a certain vaguely reasonable level. An alcoholic, barring extreme circumstances, can generally be ignored by just closing your windows and turning the TV up.

A meth addict will disrupt literally an entire block as they rant and rave at 3am in the morning, smashing their house to bits with a hammer. They'll literally throw things at and act aggressive towards people they don't like. My mom used to live by one-- the landlord, once he moved out, had to send the trailer he'd occupied to the junkyard since he'd caused so much damage.

I'm not saying all meth addicts are like that, but trying to compare them to alcoholics in terms of disruption is like saying we should let kids have assault rifles because they didn't kill their friend with a bb gun.

A meth addict's kid is gonna be way the hell worse off than an alcoholic's kid.

Also the children of the neighbors of the meth addict are gonna be drug down too. Neighbors involve all sorts. Children and adults.

Like you guys are talking a lot in cute theorycraft but you really shouldn't speak about this kinda stuff unless you've lived in low income neighborhoods where you can actually observe the effects of alcohol vs other harder drugs.

Now, granted, there are a lot of drugs that should be legalized before alcohol should, but there are a lot that shouldn't too. It's not a matter of all recreational drugs vs no recreational drugs. You need to think of it in terms beyond "a person has a right to do whatever they want to to their own bodies" though.

With respect to your lived experiences, I don't think this dichotomy is universal. Alcoholics can absolutely do everything in the second paragraph and much, much worse.

Alcoholics can do it. You can kill someone with a BB gun too.

Unless you're supposing that, somehow, I've met a lot more meth addicts than alcoholics, the dichotomy is a lot closer to universal than you're implying.

Drugs alter your mental state differently. Alcohol alters how you act a certain amount. Meth does it... a lot more, so the percentage of users that are going to completely disrupt the peace while using it is much higher than alcohol.

Like I'm not trying to defend alcohol as much as say you're a dumbass trying to create an equivalence there. Meth is to alcohol as alcohol is to like... cigarettes or marijuana. I'm sure there are peaceful meth heads out there, but comparing the disruption caused by them vs alcoholics I've interacted with in my life, DWI excepted, is just not really a discussion worth respect.

"This bad thing is legal so all other bad things should be legal" just doesn't make sense to me

I could see this argument for saying there should be tougher laws on alcohol, but not as an argument for why all recreational drugs should be legal
