Fundamentally, because the government shouldn't be dictating who competent adults choose to have sex with or why. In practice, it's tricky to make sure those choosing prostitution are actually doing so entirely of their own free will, rather than being exploited in any way (sadly, legal prostitution will not eradicate human trafficking, especially since minors will still be illegal), but that doesn't change that it should be their choice.

@CarefreeDude should get his facts checked before he starts talking shit...

He was never charged with any of that. As of right now, he was charged with a misdemeanor which means he probably didnt know how bad he organization was. Probably just got a tug.

That being said, theres apparently like 50 other names of high profile people caught in this sting as well, but none are being named yet. Some are more famous than even Kraft

First part: I hate the Patriots so anything that tarnishes them is good in my eyes.

Second part: Because the government has no business telling two consenting adults that they can't have sex. Doesn't matter if it's business or not.

That's one of the biggest tragedies of our puritanical ban on legal prostitution.

If it was legal and could be openly advertised by establishments following the laws (ie, staffed by consenting adults who chose to engage in the activity), consumers could choose these lawful establishments to patronize and be far, far less likely to inadvertently support human trafficking.

With the current system, it's all underground and in secret, and basically a crap shoot whether you'll get a consenting adult or a victim.

You are right, prostitution should be kept illegal. Why? Cause I want my kids and future generations to look up to people who got wealthy by ethical means. I don't want younger generations to think their own body is a cash crop. It will lead to the further degeneration of society.

I agree that prostitution should be legal, in a non-corrupt system at least, but...we currently live in a corrupt system, so I am not so sure it would be a good idea. That being said, people are already being forced into prostitution, addicted to drugs, etc, so it probably wouldn't be worse, and the gov really shouldn't say what someone can do with their body as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.

In addition if you tax prostitution, you could pay for free health care for everyone easily.

Sadly with the way money = power in this country, I could totally see the rich basically creating a system that forces many young (of both sexes) to be prostitutes just to get by, or support their kids etc (heck it happens already and it's illegal).

So, I would prefer a system be in place that ensures that everyone who wants to make money, can make at least as much in another job (which they can definately get), then they would as a prostitute. That would prevent people form feeling "forced" to sell their bodies even though they really don't want to, because it just pays better than anything else.

Prostitution should be legal, but also should only be something those who really enjoy the act do (or at least don't mind it much, like any other job).

Currently I don't believe that would be the case, which is a much larger problem over all, and I think needs to be fixed waaaaay more then the right to control our bodies and u se them how we see fit.

Right now, almost anywhere in the US, almost 50% of the jobs barely pay enough to survive on, let alone save anything etc. Many places working 40 hours a week at the min wage or close, doesn't even pay, or barely pays the rent on a 1 bedroom apartment. That is insane.

Min wage here is 11 an hour, a cheap 1 bedroom is $900-$1000 a month (not including utilities etc). 40 hours a week is about $400 (not removing taxes, just the base social security etc), which is $1600 a month. If you have them take the base 30% in taxes out (if you just claim yourself), you'll get money back at the end of the year, but....you'll have $480 taken out in taxes, meaning a net balance of 1120$ a month.

You could pay for a 1 bedroom (small) + utilities with that (no cable/internet) and that is it. No transportation money, no food, no money for laundry etc.

Making prostitution legal in such a system and allowing people to say make even $30 an hour average as a prostitute (and they would probably make more) would, in my opinion) force many people to do so because it's the only economically feasable way to live on your own, especially if your a single parent. Even if they don't do it all the time, it would probably cause many to do it occasionally to help with bills, perhaps on their days off from a normal job, but after enough weeks of working 40 hours and making more money on the days off in 10......many people would just give up the 40 hour work weeks.

Eventually that might force an increase in pay....but not before you had a ton of people end up being prostitutes that would not have if they had a real choice.

I agree prostitution should be legal, and it isn't even an ethical reason, it is just because porn is legal. Think about it, prostitution is somehow illegal yet somehow porn is simply because a video camera is involved? Makes no sense.

"I'll give you $100 to have sex with me."

"Nah, prostitution is illegal..."

"Don't worry, I'll record it and sell the video for money."

Oh, OK then!"

Which wouldn't be an issue if prostitution was legal. The whole trafficking industry largely exists because it's illegal. Further, you make it sound like he was trying to buy the woman rather than just solicit sex.

There's not an eye-roll emoji strong enough to respond to this post. While the awareness of trafficking likelihood is probably known (or thought to be known) in advocacy circles, it's nowhere near as well known among the general population. Doubly so since it's an assumed cultural thing, given that many massage parlors in those native countries offer the same.
