Gaap and Clair talk about the differences between men arguing vs. women arguing. Men are fiery, but quickly burn out. Women burn steadily for years.

Shannon talks about how she was determined to start a new life the day Battler returned
A: So, back in Ep 1 and 2 and every one, every time George proposes to Shannon, Im all like aww, cute! and youre like nooo, pain. Im starting to see why you were like that!

Shannon discusses her plan to save up her wages, move out, live with Battler, etc.
A: I wonder if the family would have let her ever leave. Shes so wrapped up in the familys business, whether she knows it or not. I feel like this plan was doomed from the get-go.

Another mention of the white horse
A: Now my brain is supplying an image of Battler on one of those stick-horses

A: So Asumus dying was just really bad timing. Battler *was* planning on coming back, but he got caught up in Rudolfs bullshit.
K: I wonder how long he even remembered his promise to Shannon. Hes what, 14 here? How many 14 year olds remember a silly promise after a week?
A: And yet to Shannon, it was everything.

Shannon fantasizes that Battler got into a fight with his father as an excuse to change his last name so he can marry Shannon without trouble.

Shannon: I should hold out hope for Battler and think of this as training for when I become his wife.

Scene changes to a family conference 5 years ago, when Ange was just born. Natsuhi and Eva welcome Kyrie into the family
A: As much as these two are bitches, I still cant help but like them.
K: Like as characters or together, or?

K: *laugh* I agree! And yes, the mothers are my favorite characters in this book. Theyre so fun, even when theyre being total bitches.

Jessica makes Shannon promise to get boyfriends together
A: I mean, technically Shannon will get a girlfriend the same time Jessica gets a boyfriend!

The Mammon-maid is right several times in a row. She says the quiet ones always finish first in reference to getting boyfriends, and then later says not to try and guess what a guy is thinking.
A: Listen to her!

George says hes happy for Battler forging his own path in life.
A: I love how every time you appear, you just make it worse.

As time passes, Shannons memory of the event gets twisted. First it was Battler on a white horse, now its but only when you are resolved to live life for me.

Kyrie says Battler wrote a letter to everyone. Shannon gets hopeful but yeah. Then afterwards, George gives Shannon the empty envelopes.
A: Which explains why Beatrice announces herself with a letter!

Clair says she cant hate Battler for breaking the promise, when to him, it was never a promise to begin with. It was just him being a stupid teenager and joking around. :(

Shannon creates Kanon and gives her love of Battler to Beatrice.

At the end of the chapter, theres a moment where Shannon is like what was the new servants name? Oh yes, its and me and Arria BOTH felt like it was like in RPGs where a name-entry screen is about to pop up. Like, we felt it in our HEARTS that we were about to name Kanon. xD

The portrait of Beatrice goes up and the epitaph is revealed
Natsuhi: Father, what is this?
A: Part of me wishes Natsuhi had phrased this as Father, what the fuck is this?

Eva reads the epitaph and immediately thinks Man, Kinzo really doesnt want Krauss to be the successor.
A: I do love how EVERYONE has come to that conclusion. Everyone hates Krauss. Even Krauss.

Rosa shows Maria the epitaph, who gets really excited about reviving Beato
A: Id feel better about this scene if I felt for a single moment that Rosas reaction would be You gave it your best, sweetie.
Scene cuts out after Maria is finished talking
A: Cut out, because I think we can guess now that Rosa is beating the ever loving shit out of her child.

Genji is asking Kinzo what will happen if there is no miracle.
A: Is this his way of subtly asking are you going to rape a baby? Because if you rape a baby, there wont be any miracles happening!

Maria, and really Shannon, name the demons inside her head
A: This entire scene can be summed up with: a legal pad, upon which is written the symptoms are getting worse.

Maria: Were gonna solve the riddle! Then well go to the Golden Land where theres no Black Witch, and maybe Papa is there, and theres no school or homework or bullies
A: This scene is DEEPLY sad.

Scene with Shannon and Kanon
A: So when Kanon appears, is this Shannon sitting Genji down and asking Hey I dont have tits or menstruation. Whats going on, dude?
K: Yeah, pretty much!

We get to the epitaph solving part! Huzzah! We learn Kinzos homeland was Taiwan, and I get to reveal that Arrias computer has a Made In Taiwan sticker on it that has been bothering me THIS ENTIRE GAME and how I always wanted to say something snarky like the answer is right in front of you.

Arria is so satisfied to have the riddle solved lol. She opened up a map of Taiwan on Google Maps to follow along.

While Beatrice was stuck trying to figure out how to pull apart the two who were close, Arria did solve that part.

Arria had the idea that if the letters are spun during the gouging, to read them upside down. That WOULD be pretty clever, honestly

Beato finds the gold.
Then she hears footsteps
A; Genji? Kinzo? Take the easy way out and say its Kanon?

A: I like the ascension to Beatrice-hood they do in the Golden Land a LOT more. Yes, magical council of witches, wizards, and demons triggers a LOT of things in me, but the worst thing theyll do is cut your head off! This is so much more real and disgusting.

A: If this had happened to me and I was in Beatrices shoes, Id be like Oh, honey, the coroners gonna take days to clean up your remains. Youre going to die, and its going to take days. The coroners not gonna find pieces of you and need to run a DNA test to make sure youre human. Youre lucky if I put you through the wood chipper feet first.

Its going well. Havent touched Hig5 yet. Been playing a lot of D&D and Hades. How's everything your way?

Everything is going well. Arria and I took a bit of a break from Umineko so we don't have any more updates, but she still loves it so much. Occasionally when we're at work, she'll reference it. :D

I've been watching the new Higurashi anime, too. So far, I'm very pleased with it!
