I'm working to play through most of the main series Zelda games this year (in no particular order). Started with the first one, then I finished Link's Awakening today, now I have moved on to Skyward Sword.

In traditional Wii fashion, the controls are utter garbage (particularly the camera) and I feel like a lunatic sitting on the couch waving my arms around.

I really didn't like Skyward Sword. I was fine with Twilight Princess on Wii, but SS was just boring as fuck.

I'm spacing out the games I either know or suspect I won't like as much, so that's why I'm playing it now, so that I can have something refreshing like Link to the Past or the Oracle games after it.

Along with the 3DS games, it remains among the only Zelda games I never finished. I even beat Zelda 2 as a kid but after an hour messing around with the motion+ crap in Skyward Sword I never went back. Hell, I even got through Twilight Princess on the Wii.

Are you counting the three games on CD-I?

Wii?

Honestly, that one was fine. SS liked their new + controller, and so made more complex combat with it, which was more annoying than fun. The worst bit in TP was fishing a couple of times.

For reference, that list is

Zelda 2 (not as bad as people say, but by no means good)
Skyward Sword
Twilight Princess
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks

I'm not sure what to expect from the Four Swords games.

Zelda 2 is probably my least favorite. But some say its because its a port of it. I cant really do that one.

Skyward Sword wasnt too bad for me. I think it has one of my favorite bosses. Its really stupid, but I liked that boss and remember having fun playing against it.

Twilight Princess was meh for me. But I know a lot of people liked it. And it was on 3 systems in a row...

Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks were both pretty fun. I never understood the hate for them, tbh. I remember playing through them again a few years after beating them. I still dont get the hate...

I've been doing something similar myself. Have currently done LoZ, Zelda 2, Link's Awakening, Link to the Past, and both Oracle games.

Right now, my list is:

1. Link's Awakening
2. Link to the Past
3. Zelda 2
4. Legend of Zelda
5. and 6.The Oracle Games

At first, I was going to 100% the Zelda games I never 100%ed as a kid, but now, I may as well 100% the entire series.

This is why I never finished it. Didn't even get that far before throwing the disc back in the case and just forgetting it exists. Hopefully they'll remake it one day with non shit controls.

I forced myself through Skyward Sword a few years ago. I didn't hate it but it was just kinda boring to play and I doubt I'm ever gonna play it again.

I played through Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks back to back last year and I still loved both of them.
I think those two might be the most underappreciated Zelda games ever.

So you're playing both Four Swords games?
I loved the one on Gamecube.

Skyward Sword was pretty bad, mainly due to the forced motion controls (the free falling is probably even more annoying than the sword combat) and mandatory main story fetch questing that's blatantly there just to pad out the game length.

The best part is the 4th dungeon (best in the game) through the 5th dungeon, including the trek to the 5th dungeon. Some would argue the 3rd dungeon is also really good and would say 3rd-5th is the pinnacle of the game. The final dungeon is also pretty interesting. But everything else is pretty garbage, including much of the stuff between dungeons.

The beetle was the one weapon/item that stood out as being especially awesome and fun. I suggest farming for the upgrades to it ASAP -- longer flight duration, speedier flight, tougher beetle -- it's great. It also lets you bypass the sword combat fairly often. You can use it to snip Deku Babas by flying through their stems, for example. And once you get the ability to grab bombs from bomb flowers with it, doing aerial bombing runs on an area from safety is pretty enjoyable.

Yea, as much as people complain about those games, they aren't that difficult and are relatively short (well, the first 2 are, Zelda's Adventure is longer). That said, doesn't mean they are good and I don't plan on playing them ever again.

The GameCube one is currently a maybe, as it's the only game on the list I still need to track down a copy of.

Well good luck with that. It's usually an expensive game.

The good thing is though is that you can still play the game by yourself with just a Gamecube controller, but if you want to play it with someone else you'll need 1 GBA + 1 GBA-GC Link cable for each player.
