It's an extra library to manage and an extra set of account credentials to remember. Hardly the end of the world, of course, but it definitely qualifies as an inconvenience, especially with how fragmented the PC digital market has already become (between Steam, GOG, Origin, Ubisoft, and probably some others I'm forgetting). If they want me to remember another account, then they need to provide some incentive that makes that effort worthwhile.

Well to be fair. People only have Origin and Uplay accounts for EA and Ubisoft's own games.

True, and one of the issues with the Metro fiasco is that Epic did not make Metro.

I have approx. two handles I use for my gaming platforms. I also tick the box that remembers my username. Truly, folks, it's not an inconvenience. I made my Epic account today and got a pretty sweet free game already (there's your incentive). Epic is planning on giving away a free game every two weeks.

Ya'll petty.

They do, and that's a part of the reason I haven't bought either company's games in years (the more salient part being that none of them interest me and/or are riddled with business practices I have no desire to support).

Which each need different, strong passwords if you want the accounts to be secure (and you generally do, given their value).

As do I, but that doesn't eliminate the need to remember it. In some ways, that actually makes it harder, because not using the password on a regular basis means you don't have that repetition to help remember it.

I do already have one, for exactly that, but that still doesn't mean I want my library broken up between that, Steam, and GOG. The whole free games thing also isn't that great. Since they started the program, Subnautica (the first one) is the only game I really wanted but didn't already have. Time will tell if some more appealing offerings show up, but for now, it's not that much of an incentive.

Furthermore, that's Epic providing an incentive to use the launcher. That would exist regardless of Deep Silver's move, which is why Deep Silver's move (making non-Epic users wait) needs its own commensurate incentive to make up for the inconvenience.

Glitches aren't anything new, but there definitely is a new trend of shipping games with game-breaking glitches under the pretense of being able to patch them out later. QA was quite a bit more rigorous when that wasn't an option, and I can understand people being annoyed by that. People are also justified to be annoyed when developers don't patch out serious glitches, given that the mechanisms exist to do so now.

If anything, that article made me hate Unity more then Epic. They are the ones who decided to randomly drop support for a tool that tons of developers are using. As a (non-gaming) developer myself that is extremely shitty, I would be siding with Epic as well in this case.

The UI is shit too. Steam's library list format is better and there's no search bar in Epic's.

If you're okay with the idea of everything getting hacked at the same time, sure. Password reuse is generally a pretty bad idea, especially for related services (e.g. Epic Launcher and Steam), since anyone who gets that password is likely to try it on multiple things. Having a strong enough password reduces the risk of that happening in the first place, but the stronger you go, the more likely you'll need to keep record of it somewhere or use some sort of mnemonic to help remember it, which presents another avenue for compromise.

Chrome also autosuggests strong passwords now.
