First a little background. I picked up Trails of Cold Steel last summer, beat and thought it was rad. I couldn't wait to jump into Cold Steel 2. However, I was informed that spoilers galore will happen in CS2 and like I should play with some TitS first or something. So anyway I bought all of the TitS and also Trails of Zero and Blue because apparently those are important too. I tried to beat them all before CS4 came out so I could jump right in (lol)

Well, I got about 2 hours into FC so that obviously didn't go too well. But I've decided to power through because a) I already bought these games so I should play them and b) I still want to play CS2 and beyond because I liked the first one a lot actually. Unfortunately, TitS just doesn't hook me like Cold Steel, so I have decided to make a playthrough topic and hopefully people will hound me so I actually finish it this time!

I have actually abandoned two playthroughs so far (I got to Bose the first time, before I even played CS), and they say third time's the charm, right?

Progress Report: I just got the Bear Claw plant for the priest, but a plant self-destructed on me and I died on the way out :I by the way, one of my RPG pet peeves is enemies that have a strong auto-attack when they die.

If I skip these optional Bracer quests how much will I regret it in the future? Also can I wait to do some of these until after I get that Charizard chick?

Tag.

If you like Cold Steel but not Sky, it might be worth it just to play Cold Steel 2 first. You can understand Cold Steel 2 fine either way.

Oh woops. Putting Advokaiser in my sig like this until I think of something more clever

Yeah, you're gonna want to try and finish those guys off with arts if possible. Later in the game you'll have crafts that give you ranged options as well.

Well, it depends. If the game isn't hooking you and you just want to get through the story... I'd say not much (though I'd also back what pyre is saying that CS2 is an option.) Primarily you'd be missing the conversations amongst the team and NPCs. Gameplay-wise the rewards for ranking up as a Bracer start getting really good at the highest levels and if you skipped all of them you're gonna miss out on them. Though there's an absurd amount of "extra" BP between reaching Rank 1 and "perfect" so you could skip quite a few and still reach that.

Pretty sure you can skip a fair amount of them until after you get Schera but I'm not 100% sure. I know the prime "wait for Schera" example in early FC is a monster chest on one of the routes that can wreck you if it's just Estelle and Joshua but becomes a lot more manageable with a third party member (and levels.) Off the top of my head, I'd speculate that you probably can't put off the road lamp quest because I don't think the dialogue during that quest would make sense with Schera there but the Bear Claw one you may have been able to.

General rule of thumb on quests though if you're trying to evaluate if you can put them off. If they're listed with duration "Short (S)" then it's probably gonna expire once you next advance the plot. "Medium (M)" means you can probably advance once maybe twice but you're closing in on the deadline. "Long (L)" means you can likely put it off for a while - and in some cases, until you leave the region.

Well I know the game starts kind of slow so I want to give it a chance to pick up. If it does get good I would be disappointed to have skipped it and been spoiled. Besides, it's not like I hate it or anything, just not really into it so it's definitely redeemable. Also I already bought the games so it would be a waste not to play them!

Bear Claw one says long so I guess I'll put it off for now. Does it change as you progress (like go from long to medium to short) or does it just say long until it expires?

As far as I remember (though I could be wrong), every time there's a notable development in the main storyline, all quests with a long duration will change, typically to medium durations (though sometimes to short) before expiring. Such developments are also the impetus for short-duration quests ceasing to be available, though quests will sometimes go straight from long to short and more rarely will expire from a medium duration.

As I said before I made it to Bose in a previous playthrough, so I won't really be reacting much up to that point.

Currently just got back from escorting the newspaper duo to the tower.

After this I remember Papa Bright goes missing and sky pirates steal the shiny rock. That's about it though!

I forgot about the clock tower scene completely. That was quite touching

It still makes for some funny fridge moments though.

To be fair, I could totally see Olivier completely stripping and giving all of his clothes to Estelle after having just met her. Fits nicely with his character, really.

It's great from a gameplay perspective, but if you think about it, it's pretty funny. I guess that explains that extra armor and shoes I didn't remember buying too

What does Estelle call the Foggy Canyon place in the English version?

Anyway, finished up all the side quests, now to track down the newspaper duo. I think this is where I left off before, so we're entering uncharted territory!

That area is called Nebel Valley in the English version. Unless you mean Estelle came up with a name for it in which case I don't remember.

You have to find out where Bear Claw grows in the Bose region for the pharmacist guy, and it's in Nebel Valley. After you find it, Schera asks Estelle if she knows what this place is called and she gets the name wrong because she misread the kanji. That wouldn't really work in English so I was wondering how they handled it

Found the Sky Pirates and roughed them up, but they got away. However, there is no sign of pops or the other hostages!

We got arrested by the Bracer Hater of course, what bad timing. Luckily the mayor bailed us out, along with Olivier who decided to join our party (whoo!)

Currently investigating a series of break-ins in the south part of Bose. Those darn Sky Pirates are persistent!
