I was reading this but I'm still confused.
So I wanted to hang out with Ann, whose bond wouldn't deepen yet.
I went to do the Confidant reading.
But then I remember that at night I also want to hang out with Shogi girl, whose band wouldn't deepen neither.
So I went to do another Confidant reading right away to Chihaya before speaking to Ann or anyone. And it costed twice (10k Yen).

THEN I went to Ann and it still said the bond wouldn't deepen. Did the Shogi reading override the Ann reading and I just wasted money, or do I just still need more reading/time spent on Ann before I get to level up...

-Chihaya's abilities do not pass time, so yes, the confidant one lets you get closer to S-Links at no time cost.
-You should only be able to use it on one confidant a day. She should stop you with a "can't let you do that star fox" if you try to ask her for another confidant reading after you've used one that day. If that didn't happen something weird happened and was not intended.
-Chihaya's confidant ability does not guarantee you a level-up on your next visit. I don't know the exact boost it is (one note sounds right tho?) but it is certainly possible you need to use it multiple times on one person to get them to the point where they'll level-up. Chihaya will tell you at the time of the reading if the boost was enough to get them to that point. I also don't know if having the right persona affects the boost but it can't hurt.
-Using the confidant ability doesn't prevent you from using her other readings too so you can still use the stat and money ones.
