doesnt take a nuclear apocalypse for people to be vicious assholes and take advantage of a bad situation.

Ive seen fist fights break out over short term gas shortages of just a few days. Its not a stretch to expect riots and violence if people cant fucking eat.

Funny how motivation kicks in when the freebies run out *thinking emoji*

But I do agree, some people seem to riot and loot over just about anything when the opportunity arises.

Trump really has brought out the worst in people. I wasn't aware that so many people would be ecstatic about the thought of their fellow Americans starving

On a more mundane note, those with the means to do so could consider contacting their local food bank or other charitable organizations to see what would be most useful as a donation. They may experience some stress depending on how the next month plays out.

The fear mongering is hilarious.

I don't think anyone said there is a nuclear apocalypse on the horizon here, even TC has stated that the chances are slim and I agree with him in that regard. I think chances are in favor that all parties involved realize the weight of the consequences and will get in gear before it comes to that.

Why the kneejerk reaction to being prepared though? Everyone should have at least a week or prep in case of an extended power outage/natural disaster. That's basically common sense.

Thank you. I feel like Im taking crazy pills!

This is a great suggestion. Im actually organizing a company food/baby drive. We are going to collect until mid-February. Should this all clear up, we will at least have a nice care package to donate. And I think well make it an annual event.

What is my level of preparedness, @GregShmedley ?

- I live in a building, on a 10th floor.
- single door entrance to my home, with a bolt lock and a chain.
- I have a German Shepherd
- I have a katana (sharp) and a bunch of kitchen knives
- I have a shitload of bottled water and a I have canned tuna and beans

How do I shape up?

Do you have a plan of escape if things go south? Do you trust your neighbours?

I am fairly close to the building stairs and I can take them all the way to my car.

Plan: grab kitchen knife and German Shepherd (because I love him, not for protection, but he would help) and run to my car.

Is section 8/other federally subsidized housing impacted by the shut down? 4-5M households receive those benefits.

I'm a light prepper with a few 5 gallon buckets of food. I don't expect anything bad to happen but supply chains are fragile.

i think the shutdown would need to go to like march/april for shit to really hit the fan. and i see essentially 0% chance of that happening, but who knows, Trump is all ego.

I bought one of those prepper food buckets with 60 days worth of dried MRE style food and some water filtration a few years back. It's good for 10 years I guess, who knows what they put in that stuff to keep it from going bad lol.

Yeah, these are good. I have a lot of Mountain House food in packs and #10 cans. Most of it has a guaranteed shelf life of 25 years and it's probably good past that.

Also don't forget about water.

Whats your water strategy?

Just have containers of distilled for now. I also have purification tablets and one or those filtration straws just in case.

Reviews vary on the taste of the food but it in an emergency scenario, heres a cheap safety net and you wont care as much about the taste when youre starving.

since it's run on the government money. they haven't gotten paid not sure in that scenario what happens to tenants who happen to be on that program i would imagine they would have to pay full rent or risk eviction (luckily they're safe for a month at best) the only way is through the court.

CharlesBronson posted...
there will be no looting the police just need to stock up on zip ties this is a good thing snap should have ended a long time ago

program should be changed. should add volunteer work to the choices list if they can't find a job.

It means getting a decent sized property where you grow food, raise animals, often has some sort of renewable energy, etc. basically a place to be self sufficient.
