on food if this shutdown isnt over or they havent funded SNAP benefits come the end of January.

Im hopeful that something will give and we wont face this doomsday scenario. But if it doesnt, mass looting and chaos will ensue in both the cities and the rural areas once funds are completely dry, including those of localities and states and of course, any charities.

That is all.

Also, look into getting a gun or some sort of form of protection. If you do get a gun, do all you can to get some sort of training and comfort level around handling it responsibly. Join a Facebook gun group (they have liberal groups as well though I find them to be way more politically vocal) and express your concerns.

Again, this will likely (hopefully) work itself out. But this is one of those SHTF scenarios that could actually become a reality.

Food can be super cheap. Buy a big pack of store brand bologne, bread, and cheese and you have yourself sandwiches for like a month for the change you found in your couch.

Or buy a bunch of cheap hot dogs.

You'll be fine

I bought one of those prepper food buckets with 60 days worth of dried MRE style food and some water filtration a few years back. It's good for 10 years I guess, who knows what they put in that stuff to keep it from going bad lol.

Yeah, these are good. I have a lot of Mountain House food in packs and #10 cans. Most of it has a guaranteed shelf life of 25 years and it's probably good past that.

Also don't forget about water.

Only if youre loud about it, tbh. And it would depend on the area. If the worst happens, stores would get looted first. Then eventually fast food joints and restaurants. Then neighbors will fighting neighbors until people remember the higher class neighborhoods.

Air travel eventually coming to a hault, which is one thing, combined with highway, railway, and bus lines being exhausted by the excess of stranded people trying to get home. The latter is only speculation, of course. We may have the means to accompany the situation and Im just completely off base.

Because airport security and air traffic controllers are working without pay. This can only last but so long. The likelihood of this happening is smallbut its a still a possibility.

Yeah. I personally see a large chunk of that as a form of subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay wages above true poverty level. They are basically outsourcing their expenses/costs to taxpayers.

Not saying there aren't any in that number that are genuinely disabled/between jobs though.

I don't think anyone said there is a nuclear apocalypse on the horizon here, even TC has stated that the chances are slim and I agree with him in that regard. I think chances are in favor that all parties involved realize the weight of the consequences and will get in gear before it comes to that.

Why the kneejerk reaction to being prepared though? Everyone should have at least a week or prep in case of an extended power outage/natural disaster. That's basically common sense.
