Write-Up:
Wow this song is so much creepier with the video. At first I thought it was just about a visceral relationship with human nature but after watching the video I can't definitively tell you that this isn't pro rape or something. Either way it's very disturbing to watch imo. Watching Adam swing on a meat carcass isn't sexy at all and I don't get the risk he took here with such an image in the first place. I mean, I'm not attracted to him or nothing but I certainly can't see how this could boost his fame. As it is now, I think he's a bit more of an oddfellow than I originally gave him credit for. Anyway, I don't mind a fair amount of Maroon 5 and from what I recall, atleast this one wasn't as overplayed as some of the other tunes the band has had in recent years. This is the first of a few songs by the band to make an appearance in this ranking though.

Write-Up:
See, I know we are getting to the good stuff (imo) in a bit here because we are in the thick of songs that I don't really listen to on a regular basis but do get entertained by in passing. I don't really hate anything I'm dropping lately but I don't really love it either. It might actually explain the pace at which I have ambition to drop rankings atm though. It can be a bit of a slog to put together write-ups for things you have no strong feelings for in either direction. Anyway, this song has a really catchy beat at first but I kinda feel like it is better suited in a club or dance hall. I have skipped it more than a few times on the radio but that is just because I'm usually looking for a specific genre that normally isn't Dance Pop.

Write-Up:
Hey it's another semi-popular 80's tune by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. I think the band received a Grammy nomination for this one but I don't think they won. It was the 3rd top 10 hit that the band had actually earned in their careers. There is actually a former Rolling Stone band member featured in the song that plays the solo. Not much of anything else to report here unfortunately. I remember it from my youth very well but I don't have any connecting memories that are worth exploring. I'm kind of curious how I let Crimson and Clover fall below this tune though tbh. There was a .3 difference in the score between the two so I could have fudged that somehow but I missed it. I actually do prefer the latter even though that wasn't demonstrated in the ranking. Oh well, It's close enough I guess. This is the 50th Hard Rock song to appear in the ranking.

First of all I think I'll say that you haven't really experienced this song unless you've roller-skated around a Disco ball to it. I remember doing it a few times as a kid at my local Happy Wheels and you could look around and really see how much fun everyone was having. It loses me a little bit when it changes gears in the chorus though. I really dig the intro and the sustained beat throughout the song. It's not too hard to get your knee bouncing if Disco is your jam. ELO has made a few classic hits that I appreciate and experienced in my youth. There is one tune in particular from 1975 that I can't wait to share with you later on in the ranking. It's kind of a bummer that I didn't push this into the Top 100 70's tunes but it got damn close.

Write-Up:
Most certainly the only song in this ranking from Mary J. Blige. I reluctantly included this song because I kinda have a bad memory attached to it but since it kept appearing on recommended lists from the early 2000's I put my bias aside and included it. Plus I think by the time I added it, I was like 20 or so songs short of the 260 needed for the decade. Not much to share with you from a non-biased pov but I can tell you that it's a pretty catchy Dance beat. It's kinda sad too that it isn't so much the song I have an aversion to but it's the memory of the person I have attached to the song that makes me annoyed and frustrated. That's a story for another time but the bitch burned me good. Anyway... like the album says, "No More Drama" lol.

Write-Up:
Wow. It didn't take Selena very long to turn into a sex symbol but I gotta be honest, this is another situation that is weird to accept considering I watched her as a kid on Wizards of Waverly Place and even remember her appearing on Barney & Friends (which I am actually not proud to announce I have watched lol). It's the same aversion I have shared against child stars since the Olsen twins. It's obviously only relative to the media that I am exposed to and "grow up" with because I know Britney Spears was once a child star but the first time I saw her or even knew she existed she was already of age and a sex symbol which is why I'd boink her. I guess the point is, if they make me think of kids any physical attraction is impossible no matter how mature and hot they get. I guess it's good to know I'm not a pedophile but it's probably kind of weird that I can't unsee these rising stars as children. Is it? ...or does that mean I'm just getting too old?

Write-Up:
Well... laying an immediate punch to Selena Gomez knocking her out of the Electro Pop lead we have a song that is nearly a decade old and I have only known about it for around a year. I really do feel like this just got popular recently but my memory could be foggy enough to have blocked it back in 2011. It certainly hasn't been attached to anything significant in my life. I think maybe I heard it on a Pepsi commercial once upon a time but I really don't remember. It's alright for what it is but I don't even remember what it sounds like as I wrap up this write-up that is how forgettable it is to me.

Anyway, I can't believe that this isn't from the 80's like I believed it was for the last 25 years. Glam Metal was perhaps in it's prime when these guys were popular. Were they ever popular though? I dunno. Just getting some time here this afternoon so I thought I'd drop a ranking or two. Has anyone popped in here lately?

Write-Up:
Meh again for sure. An ok beat but just not enough hook for me. The chorus can get catchy but quickly fades into redundancy. I don't know who this Halsey chick is that is featured in the song doing the vocals but I guess she's ok. Less than 30 tunes from the 2010's until we get to the Top 100 of the decade so I'm guessing it'll be the 2nd decade we get to count that list off on. This song incidentally served as both The Chainsmokers and Halseys first #1 hits. That's kinda cool. The song actually made it's premier at the 2016 annual Coachella festival (coincidentally happening right now) in California. This selection was added to the list by my wife along with so many other songs from this decade. Not my favorite decade.

Write-Up:
Damn. I actually like Three Days Grace so it's a bummer that I have to drop one of their songs here. I can assure you there are more songs of theirs to be ranked though. This one is ok but I feel like it doesn't transition quite right from the verse to the chorus or maybe more likely what I mean by that is it sounds like two different songs spliced together. Obviously the whole thing works as it is so that's probably just a feeling I have. That's the perk of writing these from my pov am I rite? The guitar intro is slightly jarring but it fades into the song quick enough I suppose. Does it almost annoy anyone else when they hear it? Ordinarily Three Days Grace walks the line of Post-Grunge vs. Alternative Rock but it is my personal opinion that they do far better with their Post-Grunge hits. I think it is also a bit uncommon for the band to play a love song as cheesy as this one. Usually there is a bit more prose and tragedy in the music. Mycro, this unfortunately leaves you with 1 nomination remaining.

Oh man so close. This is a classic favorite of mine that I actually got away with singing as a kid. It is the final 70's tune I am pitching your way before we start ranking the Top 100 70's songs. I hope the list proves entertaining enough to maybe bring in some fans to post. There will be many indisputable hits coming your way. The fun part will be seeing how much of my list everyone agrees with. Many folks might recognize this song but actually be more familiar with their other popular song "Love Hurts". I really don't think anything else they ever performed made it to the mainstream. If you like raw messy classic guitar riffs their albums actually aren't too bad. More of an acquired "ear" if that makes any sense.

It's nice to actually make contact with people every once in awhile in a ranking topic.

I don't know if I'm boring the s*** out of everyone or if everyone just got separated from the topic due to the pacing.

I'm doing the best I can to roll this out but I'm a bit surprised no one has really had anything to say in the last 30 or so rankings. :/

Not wasting any time we jump right into the Top 100 70's tunes. At 100 is a song I almost bumped a little bit higher. Even though it is pushed out here into the low 770's I'm happy it made it onto the list since it is lesser known and I enjoy sharing these gems with you here. I absolutely love the guitar play in this song. I was surprised that there was an actual nomination placed for this band since I didn't think anyone else here had ever heard of UFO before. This is honestly how I prefer most of my Hard Rock. What you are hearing is pure talent. These guys (generation of hard rock bands I mean) have real talent and can climb up on a stage with just their instruments and no sound altering gear and produce concert-worthy content.

You know... when Imagine Dragons broke into the mainstream with their hit Demons I really thought they were gonna be amazing but then quite honestly as I dug deeper into their discography, I started to realize that they are just an ok band with the ability to make a few hits. I say this because there are few songs of theirs that I actually consider worth listening to. This is the 2nd song to be ranked from the band and it is still not quite worthy imo. It's probably because I prefer a specific balance throughout a song with the verse/chorus dynamic. Many of these songs that hit the charts this decade seem to be focused (and reliant in some cases) on a catchy riff or verse that is regurgitated throughout the song and the problem with that is in most cases you can grow tired of hearing it really fast leaving the rest of the song to less appreciation than it deserves. In this case I like the melody but I get kind of annoyed with the chorus so I'm perfectly fine with it not making the Top 100 songs from this decade.

Continuing that 70's countdown we have coming in at 99, the 5th song to drop for the group ABBA and also the last. In a way it's the best ABBA there is imo. I kinda figured this song would be in the Top 100 70's but didn't realize it'd be so close to not though. It's kind of an iconic piece of music really having been featured in movies, tv shows, commercials and other media. Oh wow, didn't know this... apparently this was the only #1 hit for the group in the USA but went to the top on over 20 lists. ABBA is actually an acronym for the first names of the band members (Anni/Bjorn/Benny/Agnetha) which might have been obvious to anyone that already knew their names. Anyway... Nothing much to say here.

The 3rd and final time that the Stone Temple Pilots will make an appearance in this ranking. Kind of the height of Grunge back in the 90's. This song was played a ton and I have quite a few memories attached to it. It was my early teens so most of them are memories from high school. This tune is often praised as one of the best songs from the band and popped up on a few best hit's of the 90's lists as well. The song topped the Mainstream Rock chart for a total of 15 weeks.

Write-Up:
At first this song has kind of a P.O.D. vibe to it which isn't so bad but it quickly settles into typical Papa Roach territory. I don't have a ton of complaints about the song but nothing they have done is as good as what is featured on the album Infest imo. This is of course Papa Roach's first appearance in the ranking but certainly not the last. I love the beat here but the vocals kinda wane up and down a little bit in quality or.. I'm not really feeling the main chorus melodically. Probably the second thing. I'll be totally honest about my interest in the band though and that is as I kinda suggested, Infest is the only great thing that I like about the band. The band is more of what I call a One-Album wonder in which no matter how many albums they produce they'll never have anything as good as the one album I mentioned; Infest. Oh btw did I mention that I really like their album Infest? Yeah... it's pretty good and I totally recommend it. =D

Ugh... the pitch of the main lyrics in this song annoy the f*** out of me. I don't really understand how this made it to the top of the Billboard charts but it's grossly overrated for sure imo. I'm not even sure what the reference to Uma Thurman is here, it can't be the actress can it? If so what is so special about the way she dances? I must of missed that issue when, if and what it trended on. Anyway, this is pretty low on my list of musical interests and if I was able to skirt the scoring system and levy bias against it, it'd probably be down in the 1100's or so.

Meh.. The problem I have with that album is there aren't enough memorable riffs to go around.

Obviously it is different for everyone but nothing will top Infest. Getting Away With Murder is probably the 3rd or 4th best of their albums imo.

I know it;s a little late but I'm pretty sad to see Lost in You and Interstate Love Song go, they're two of my all time favorite songs.

If you like Three Days Grace then I'm sure I've got some more of your favorites later in the ranking. Songs that are far better than Lost In You imo.

STP is always a classic listen for me but I wouldn't say any of their songs are as good as an "all time favorite" for me.

Then again... I discovered rather quickly when compiling the list here that with over 1,000 songs and a definitive 500 or so being "best songs I've ever heard" worthy, the expression "All time favorite" gets diluted quite a bit. Especially if I consider that most everything here is better than anything else I've ever heard in my lifetime technically making most of the list my all time favorites...

Hmm, now that leaves me to ponder. What will I eventually call the Top 100 songs here if most of the list could qualify as my all time favorites?

Oh boy. This one might upset some of the 80's fans but trust me this isn't here because it sucks. There are so many great 80's tunes that competition is a bit rough here. I mean, I was born in 1980 so I'm a literal child of the 80's so I might be a tad bit biased when I say.. what I do actually have in the top 100 are the definitive songs from the decade. So fear not 80's fans. Anywho... the 3rd song here from the great Phil Collins and still not the last on the roster. I'm a fan of this song but I don't generally listen to Soft Rock plus it's kinda slow and once you've heard it many many times it sort of loses a little bit of appeal. We are getting really close to the 7 pointers though so this will start getting exciting soon. (For me at the very least lol) So many great tunes I can't wait to get to...

Gdamnit this one pisses me off. The reason is because I am forced to rank the original here when the more prefferable version was released in the 80's (oddly still not my favorite version as you'll see below). This version was a shocker I gotta be honest. I did not know that there was an original to Tiffany's version. Oh well. At least this is still in the Top 100 for the decade though which is precisely where the 80's version would land on that list. My favorite version is also from the 80's. The intro to both 80's versions are nearly identical to the intro to another great song that I'll recall to this one about when it pops up. It isn't a band that has shown up yet so I don't want to spoil it in case it's an undiscovered gem for the majority here. Anyway, If I were ranking Weird Al's version the score would look something like this:
[9.3][9.2][9.1][9.3][5.2][10.3][8.2] = [60.6] = [8.657]

Best Version IMO:

I kinda just stopped buying music around 2010, but I have their first four albums, and GAWM is my favorite after Infest, although The Paramour Sessions is also decent. (There was almost nothing memorable from lovehatetragedy.) I suspect you're going to tell me that TPS > GAWM because there are some better hooks in those songs, but my favorite song from that is I Devise My Own Demise and there's more tracks like that on 'Murder'.

Here is a decent tune from the 90's and the first of a couple songs from a band called Tonic that will appear in the ranking. I actually owned Lemon Parade at one point and probably still have it in one of my old cd cases in the closet but I haven't really utilized a cd in quite some time since most of my stuff is digital and right on my phone (plus youtube am I rite! :P). I feel like it rained a lot around the time of this song's release... or at least when I recall moments from my past connected to the song it feels like it was always raining lol. It also takes me straight back to high school. High school in the 90's... damn, it already feels like so long ago. Anyway, not my favorite tune from the band but they never really made anything that was super fantastic tbh. A few great songs of course but almost no one I know even recalls who the band is.

Sweet 80's Metal here and a milestone setting tune in the ranking. This song just bumped 1985 up to the 6 point tier with 6.059/10 points. I'm not so surprised that 1985 would be in the lead atm considering it was the last year to have a song drop in the ranking (other than 2019 which has no representation in the ranking at all because it sucks. No really, I have yet to hear a single song this year that I would even consider injecting into this ranking it's sad) This song immediately makes me think of Hot Tub Time Machine every time I hear it now. It was a pretty funny movie that closes with this playing throughout the credits. Hot Tub Time Machine Spoiler:It's funny because it's sung as if it was from the band "Motley Lou" which is one of the main characters creations. He chooses to stay in the past and creates the band before the real band is conceived changing history of course in the process. Anyway, it's a classic slow song but barely classifies as Metal imo.

Another fine example of how awesome 1985 was right here. Tom Petty is almost always a great listen and generally I always listen if a tune pops up on the radio. I like the Alice themed take in the video to this song. It gives it quite a bit of meaning but in reality the song was written about a romantic interaction that Dave Stewart (from the Eurythmics) had with Stevie Nicks. Dave Stewart co-wrote the song with Tom Petty. Why the two things are comparable is a mystery to me but I'm guessing some serious drugs were involved. It's a simple psychedelic beat and not really anything you'd ever hear on a dance floor but I have heard it quite a few times on the bar scene.

It's more fan service music to me though and because I know it from the game I have a hard time crediting it as an actual song that could be radio worthy but obviously it is. I actually will get to rank the theme twice as it will appear in the next ranking I do as well (3,000+ NES chiptunes!). I actually had never heard of The Megas before Raetsel_Lapin recommended them to me almost 2 years ago. The album that this song appears on happens to be one of the better albums I checked out imo. The vocals are a bit amateur-ish sounding and could be a little bit more polished if you ask me but I do like that they make a bunch of Mega Man inspired music.

Their self titled album is probably the best one imo even though they have released 12 albums so far. This unfortunately knocks you down to 2 remaining nominations Dragon so that is unfortunate. Hmm, I kinda don't know where I truly stand on this song. It's got a lot of things that usually bug me about song progression but it has a few things I like too. It's one of Meat Loaf's better known songs but I'd never preach that it is one of his best. I'm not even sure I entirely understand the reference or meaning of the song to be perfectly honest. I've read plenty of statements from fans lauding over the tune as a masterpiece and I might give it that for the story telling but I don't know about anything else. I do like the piano play and would probably appreciate this song more if the vocals were removed. Not that Meat Loaf is terrible but the tempo is so inconsistent imo that I am less likely to enjoy repeated listens. The album is pretty solid overall though.

It always seemed to pop up on the radio while I was transporting a client and they'd never let me change the radio lol. The beat is ok but I don't really find that there is much substance here. Calvin Harris is credited for co-producing the song which was in a time when he was just starting to make some of his own radio hits for his 3rd studio album. Anyway, the song isn't too complex and loops the same chorus over and over to almost an annoying degree (especially if you've heard it as much as I have imo).

Nice. One of my favorite Grunge bands and 1 of 4 of their songs that I selected for the ranking. This didn't quite climb as high as I originally thought it would and it falls just under the cusp of the 7 pointers so I'm really not too disappointed to drop it here. I'm also a bit surprised too that the 90's list is holding as strong as it is. I guess I liked a lot more songs from the decade than I thought. The 00's still have the most remaining songs atm though. This song was originally released on an extended play album but then released on the band's first full length album in the same year which is what I am using here. Silverchair sort of became known as a very manic depressive band as their songs span a wide range of suicidal emotion. This song was or is allegedly the most played song on Modern Rock radio in 1995 but I don't have a real solid citation to that fact so I don't know for sure. It seems legit as I recall hearing this a ton back in the day.

I was never too bothered with this song until I played Guitar Hero Van Halen to death. The disk literally stopped working lol. It was during my peak interest in the series of games and I was logging my top scores/setting goals for completion in a spreadsheet. Welp, Van Halen wasn't terribly hard but I was probably less interested in the game than any of the other Guitar Hero games. Why did I play it then? OCD's lol. Anyway, having less interest in the game meant less focus and longer play times which resulted in further annoyance with the game. Anyway, to make a long story short Van Halen is now out of the running as I got nothing else from them to recommend for ya.

I'm not really a huge fan of Blues Rock which might be precisely why I didn't push this song further. In hindsight I probably could have replaced this song with something else but I had enough difficulty building a 10's list that I kept it in not really caring if there was anything better out there and simply because I think it's a cool band. It isn't really a song I would first recommend if I was trying to get you interested in the band though so if you haven't heard of these guys before kinda gloss over this and save your judgement until I drop their better material for you to sample. Still not my favorite of theirs but definitely worth scrutiny for any Fleetwood Mac fan. Unfortunately this isn't great news for you Raetsel since you are now down to just 1 nomination remaining. Another ouch too as it drops you from 3rd place to 13th in the nomination challenge. (bummer) My favorite part of this song comes at precisely 3:04 into it though. I just love that riff for some reason. Anyway, we are finally here and I am excited to say that most of what you hear from here on out is everything that is most likely to be found on any playlist that I would potentially create which is precisely the point of the ranking so I guess it shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone lol.

Some commentary:

California Girls
- I know the commentary was made about the bikinis, but I don't know how anyone else wasn't distracted by David Lee Roth's... uh... dance moves? Mugging to the camera? Is it weird he reminded me heavily of Richard Simmons? ...I do dig those Northern girls though...

Animals
- Holy **** that was disturbing. Probably about the same time he was on American Horror Story: Asylum though so there would be some crossover effect.

International Love
- Heh, a new take on California Girls. Describing all the girls everywhere, and bringing it back to how good the ones at home in Miami are. Didn't care for the chorus much.

Come And Get It

- I know that feel all too well. Knew Joanna Levesque before she was Jojo; she and my sister were besties in first or second grade. It was cool seeing her get hits and be on magazine covers, but very gross hearing or seeing people talk about her in a sexual way. Like, dude. She's still just a kid singing Cabaret at the dentist's office. I was also THAT KID who would go over to someone's house and just play Playstation the entire time; I remember playing Croc 2 Legend of the Gobbos while my mom, sis, and her family chatted on the couches and I had nothing to contribute.

Also, really didn't like Come and Get It. Surprised it's so high.

Believer
- I get confused between Imagine Dragons and Of Monsters and Men, and thought I was going to get something very different. It was good, and bonus points for Dolph Lundgren, but yeah, repetitive as you said.

Dancing Queen
- My first taste of Dancing Queen was actually S Club 7 in Miami:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7w_VKwUScRc" data-time="

I really enjoy their cover more (and leagues beyond the A*Teens attempt), but there's something about the original that has a hidden and subtle power to it that the cover doesn't. Like when ABBA says, "See that girl, watch that scene," there's like some ethereal command behind it.

In The Air Tonight
- How so low?!~ I think I've heard it on the radio about five or six times over the past month or two, and the only thing that gets old is my mistimed miming drumbeat. I ALWAYS miss early when they change-up the tempo. Also, the way it influenced television going forward after the Miami Vice pilot:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aMCzRj3Syg" data-time="

Note: Huh, commented on Miami in three songs I chose to comment on. That's weird, lol.

If You Could Only See
- Kind of want it higher, but it also seems about right.

Don't Come Around Here No More
- Very trippy and beautiful music video. Trying to figure out what recent thing played this song. It's bugging me.

EDIT:Legion. "Don't Come Around Here No More" was in Legion.

It's kind of slow for any playlist I would create and I really gotta be in a Phil Collins mood to get into it. Also, it isn't necessarily that I intended for it to be that low but when stacking everything I really like above it, it sort of dropped by default. I still don't think it did that bad for an easy listening tune. It may be in the mid 700's but it still almost hit 7 out of 11 points.

Write-Up:
My wife's favorite artist is up yet again with a nifty beat and catchy chorus in Don't. The song samples from Lucy Pearl's "Don't Mess With My Man" and I guess originally this song was fully titled "Don't f*** with my love" until it was cut down to just "Don't" which really fits it well imo. Even though this was Sheeran's 2nd album, this served as his first top 10 hit. The album must have been most listeners' first experience with Ed Sheeran though since eventually a couple of songs from his first album would climb the charts, presumably because of new fan 'disc'overy. The composition of the song took over a year for Ed to develop as he had the main riff on his phone for that long. It tells a true story about an early relationship Ed had with an unnamed singer. I couldn't find the name of the singer online but I'm sure if a fan was big enough, they could bother to dig up the info somewhere. Unfortunately I am not so I'll leave the write-up here. I'm pretty sure this will be a lower placement than my wife would appreciate but we're not going to tell her about it are we? :P

Write-Up:
The first of six Coldplay songs included in this ranking and probably the best way to introduce the band as the song is actually a collaboration between every member of the band. I mean... obviously they perform together but this was one of the few songs where every single member had creative influence on the composition of the song. In 2010 Clocks busted into Rolling Stone's list of the greatest 500 songs of all time at #490. We've a ways to go yet to get to my favorite Coldplay song and it's pretty high up on the list but that's pretty impressive and only a good sign for the other 5 songs. You can guess which song is my favorite if you want but I'm not sayin' until the reveal! ;P I really have an affinity for great keyboard riffs and there is no shortage of them with this band. Coldplay is typically heard across a variety of themed stations from Contemporary to Alternative Rock with impressive versatility. I hear one of their songs play a couple times a week either on the radio, at a doctors office or in the mall or any shopping setting. It's a phenomenon around here lol.

The 4th tune from Katy Perry to show up and still a few till my favorite of hers. There are only a couple songs of hers that I truly like so don't expect too much praise here. The rest of her songs I pretty much tolerate until they inevitably become annoying from over hearing them. She does have a knack for making top rated Mainstream hits though which I may have mentioned in one of her previous rankings but I don't recall atm. 2010 was a big year for pop hits and Katy pretty much dominated the airwaves for a good part of it. I'm kinda glad I don't really hear this one too much anymore. In fact I think I can go a decade without ever hearing it and I wouldn't miss it. On to the next ranking...

Wow. This takes me back. When I was a Junior/Senior my closest neighbor/friend and I used to take drives through the back country to the nearest city which was about an hour away and we'd jam out to classics like this. We listened to a s*** ton of Metallica too. It was such a bromance that I honestly started to question my interest in girls at all. I had a few interests but at that time in my life it always seemed like more of a chore trying to get their attention. Almost any afternoon I could call up my dude and ask if he wanted to take a drive. It was good times. I honestly could say that I would have done anything for the friendship back then. After all, this is the guy that hook lined and sinkered me into joining the military under something called the "buddy system" after high school. Sadly though, I haven't had any connection to my old friend in nearly 15 years. I should probably look him up at some point. Anyway, this whole album is pretty great to jam to on a country drive is my point lol.
