Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword especially were poor follow-ups.

I always get hate when I say this, but TP was one of the worst games I have ever played. Never played SS

WW is really good, but I preferred MM. OoT and LttP are both about tied with WW for me.

Almost have to agree. I'm not sure if I can pick a favorite Zelda, but Wind Waker has such a charm to it that I absolutely love it.

I didn't really like Wind Waker at all. Twilight Princess is my favorite.

Majora's Mask is my second favorite, probably because it was the first Zelda game I owned and completed, but the worldbuilding and its dark atmosphere were also great. And the mask transformations added more layers to the standard gameplay.

the good thing about WW and BotW artstyles is that they'll still look good 10+ years after their releases

and yea, I really loved Wind Waker. the game was really charming, and I liked how expressive the characters could be, and the seafaring sense of adventure was dope

it also had my favorite version of Ganon(dorf)

It shouldn't have even been a Legend of Zelda game.

With those cel shaded graphics, it should've been Kirby's Wind Waker.

I don't know if I'd call WW the single best Zelda game, but it's #2 or #3 at absolute lowest. It definitely has the best story and characters, tons of memorable moments, and some excellent boss fights. It also has some of the most forgettable dungeons in the series (Tower of the Gods is pretty good, but that's it). I personally enjoyed the sailing aspect and vastness of the world, but I can understand why it's divisive.

I thought WW was very average. I put in maybe 10 hours, mostly in 2003, and didn't enjoy it that much. I thought the graphics were underwhelming, the game got hard too quickly, and it just wasn't that much fun.

I never made it past the Forest Temple. I played it for quite a while, then gave up.

I played Twilight Princess a little bit but it was unplayable so I gave up. I never played Skyward Sword because I gave up on the Wii entirely (due to its main releases being unplayable).

I love the sense of adventure, the story (for a Zelda game at least, particularly the ending) and the world, but there are quite a few annoying aspects (e.g. being turned back if you go the "wrong" way for about the first half of the game, the Triforce hunt, relatively slow sailing, etc.) and disappointments (like the number of proper dungeons and their quality).

Overall, it's still a great game, but certainly not my favorite Zelda (or even 3D Zelda).

True. Cel-shaded games or games that don't try to go for a realistic style always age better than those that do. I'd argue that the original GCN version of Wind Waker aged better than even some more recent PS3 releases.

Did you play Twilight Princess on GCN or Wii? It's decent on GCN, but the motion controls were shoehorned in on the Wii version, in addition to the entire game being mirrored because most people are right-handed.

Granted, I haven't played TP, SS or BotW yet and i also haven't really played most of the handheld zelda games.

It was the Wii. It likely would've been fine on Gamecube but I never owned a Gamecube. I always wished I did but I went exclusive PS2 that generation. I'm right handed so that wasn't the issue. My issue with the Wii was that I have cerebral palsey, which affects my left side. Having to hold the controls in separate hands was very uncomfortable for me. I need to be able to hold one control in both hands.

With the Wii I would have to move Link a couple steps, stop, attack, repeat. If I didn't get attacked, replace attack with adjust my thumb. Mario Baseball and Wii Sports were the only games I liked on Wii. With Mario Kart I crashed too much.

I hated every game that required the nunchuck, so must games, because I couldn't play them, which is why I consider the Wii the worst console ever (and I started with Atari). I traded the Wii in for a 360 and loved it. This gen I'm Xbox exclusive, though I'd love a.PS4.

:/

you always could have bought the gamecube version of it, which is playable on the wii with backwards compatbility. Can definitely understand why you'd have issues playing actual wii games though. Skyward sword especially was probably one of the most complex/precise of the wii motion control games (it even had an extra controller addon) so it would definitely be a no-go
