Teachers hate it because the kids aren't learning shit. They're just asking something else to solve their problems for them. And if you think that's all well and good, remember that PEOPLE have to develop that software in the first place.

I had a conversation with a fellow high school teacher who was worried that we'd be replaced by online programs within the next 2 decades. It will never happen. You'll never guarantee a student is learning without an in person connection.

Sounds like they're just following the trend.

Kids dont learn shit by studying for tests either, they forget it immediately after testing

We need to do away with all the common core BS and let teachers actually teach again

I mostly agree, but we don't have "common core" in Alberta. Kids need to learn how to learn in school. Ultimately I don't give a shit if they know how to algebraically determine the roots of a quartic function. I want them to know what they need to do to tackle problems they've never faced before.

Asking Alexa or Google is an honest strategy for many problems in life. I didn't know how to fix a toilet that constantly ran, Google provided that knowledge. But Google won't help you in every situation, nor should it.

Back to testing, the biggest evaluative threat to teachers like myself are diploma exams at the end of 12th grade subjects. I think in the US the equivalent are called SATs? They seemed to be designed by statisticians, not educators, as the very wording and layout of them baffles me. Yet I more or less have to teach to get results on them. Because of the strange layout, and how extremely dense the Math curriculum is, the most efficient way to teach is to match the quirky layout of the exam.
