You seem to have a chip on you should shoulder. Like you make it seem like all federal employees just fucked you in the ass with no line or warning. Like literally all of them...

All of the guvment is soooo bad all the time. I'm all about calling out inefficient or inappropriate shit going on on a federal level (hey, it's actually my job) but to have such a vendetta against every person with a federal paycheck is odd.

I mean... pretty much any time I have to deal with a federal agency like the DMV or the post office they're apathetic and often times straight up rude. I will say I've had oddly pleasant experiences at the tag office though. I guess because it's usually quick there and seems like a less shitty job overall

I wasn't sure if you felt as strongly as tall midget over there. You aren't being very clear, and your DMV comment confused me because of its irrelevance.

Obviously, I think it's a poor generalization to say all government employees are assholes. That's over 2 million Americans, just on the federal level. They are analysts and nurses and surveyers and and therapists.

At least government salaries and the policies that oversee them are available to the public to read.

Agencies do implement perforcemance reviews and individual development plans to track employees' goals and objectives throughout the year. Som agencies have their own pay-for-performance systems in place, different from the standard GS pay schedule. People can go 10+ years in some agencies without moving up in the ranks for one reason or another.

But yeah, public sector jobs are known for their stability and work-life balances. It's a perk that oftentimes makes up for the compensation premiums that an employee could make in a similar job in the private sector. But not every federal position is guaranteed to make more in the private sector, or necessarily has that flexibility in work-life balance.

This. You cant really just generalize everyone because youve personally had bad expierences... like earlier, I always have good people at the post office. I have friends that work there. And every when Im talking to someone I dont know, there are usually very helpful and nice. And even though the DMV is state level, I usually dont have much of a problem there. The biggest problem is the time. But they have only like 6 people working there, and way too many customers. But the people are usually nice and helpful. Though, I got to know them well going up there a bunch... But maybe its your attitudes. Im usually very nice going places and I smile a lot. And people seem to be way nicer when you do that. Go up there grumpy, and maybe you grumpiness will rub off on them...

I didn't actually think I'd end up in government when I started studying public administration and policy. I thought I'd end up doing related research and cost-benefit analyses at a third-party think tank or non-profit organization. The job can be definitely bureaucratic and slow as fuck most days, but my nerd ass enjoys it and the impacts we can create.

I shouldnt have to be overly polite to have someone not be rude. When I got my drivers license when I was 16, the lady basically yelled at me to hold my chin up higher for the picture with no reason to act like that. The first time she said to hold my chin up high with a slight attitude and then raised her voice when she had to *gasp* ask me one more time to raise my chin a little higher. And thus, my drivers license photo looks stupid because she told me to awkwardly hold my chin up too high. You wouldnt get away with that kind of attitude at a private business. Its a little tougher and more futile to file a complaint about an employee at a government agency. Not that I'm the type to do that anyway unless goes above and beyond in rudeness

Oh and also when I took my drivers test, the guy was extremely rude the whole time when I was clearly nervous which made me more nervous

You forgot the part where the unions of the public sectors are ridiculously powerful and often prevent the termination of ridiculously incompetent, lazy, and all-around bad employees.

An employee working for a private company can be easily fired for a single offense if it is remotely bad for business. A public worker? Good luck getting rid of them for an equivalent offense. Honestly, what bothers me the most is the lack of check and balance that asswipes in the public sector rarely have to deal with. And when there are remotely slight annoyances in their lives, the people pay with their displeasure since they know that they're unlikely to get fired short of killing someone.

I'll leave out the parts of rampant corruption, bias in hiring, illegally covering for each other, and the fact that public servants often have DIRECT influence on people's very lives, as well as being paid directly by the aforementioned people's taxes. Thank god recording people is becoming a thing and there are now less chances of public servants being able to lie about how the act and cover each other up.

Do these happen in the private sector? Absolutely. But since a private company requires a certain level of efficiency to grow, there are consequences for acquiring and keeping second rate workers. Public sector? Not so much since you're just wasting taxpayers money anyway!

I remember the last time I had to actually deal with many public servants, nurses in the hospital. Do you know how great it is to know that your taxes are going to pay for 5-6 whiny nurses who spent at least an hour whining about their job instead of, you know, actually nursing people?

And before you cry about it again, #notallpublicservants. There, I saved you the predictable "WE'RE NOT ALL LIKE THAT" defense.

The inefficiencies and bureaucracy you experience in dealings with government agencies are the result of mandates in the law, typically put into effect by Congress. Some for good reasons, some less so.
But you actually think every time it takes a long time for a government agency to perform an action, it's because the low level employees themselves are intentionally just choosing to wait a few weeks to get to it, lol!
Do you also blame call center employees for the corporate decisions of a company you don't like?

No. That's you putting idiotic words in my mouth. The delays and inefficiency in government is not just due to laws and rules. A LOT of it is due to public servants simply giving the strict minimum which causes longer delays in processing information and getting the work done. If you give public servants a quota of processing 40 files in a day, the reality is that, given enough time, the majority of them will give you pretty damn close to what you ask, even if they could easily do double the quota if they only gave a fuck. That is the consequence of having little to no consequences and accountability which is prevalent in the public sector.

Nobody is saying act overly polite, but polite in general. And its doesnt work with everyone. It going there grumpy and looking mad usually will only make it worse... I usually smile with seems to make people around feel less uneasy. And they always seem to relax a bit. Even taking my test, the tester said I should have gone faster on the highway, but still passed me. She said that she thought I was probably just nervous. Also, I dontknow why you dont think you would get that attitude at a private business. Assholes are everywhere.

You generally dont because it's much easier to complain to a manager and get them in trouble. But like I said, I'm not one to do that anyway because my name isnt karen. Karen cant just go to the DMV or post office and ask to see a manager. You'd have to go on the website and report someone and good luck with that actually mattering to the government

And some can get away with a lot. Especially if theyre related and close friends with whoever owns the business. Or if the business owners are also dicks. And then there are the ones who dont care about being fired. But maybe you are right about it being an area things. Though here and back were both great places with nice people, but very different. Back home was probably a little nicer than here. I currently live in a cheap old town, so... IDK...

Idk. I have seen some of the younger kids being rude or seeming rude sometimes at stores. But maybe thats just how I see it. Idk. I dont see everybody in a government position as rude, though. Some are, but no more than anywhere else. Maybe you just had bad luck with those people...I dont think it ridiculous. Some people just have that look. Ive met them on base. And then I talk to them (because Im still nice), and they turn out to be pretty cool and we become friends. If you're at work dealing with customers, you shouldnt just go off on people because they have that look or that voice that you dont like. If you feel that way then you arent qualified to have a position dealing with the public. Apathy doesn't bother me that much. I get that a lot at private businesses with cashiers and the like and I get it. Its a shitty job.
