Do you have an opinion on how Ultimate treats playable characters with spirits? Because Sheik does get posessed by multiple pre-set spirits in the single player mode and players can later customize her spirits too.

I think in the plot of the adventure mode the spirit-possessed characters you fight are technically clones of the original characters created by Galeem.

After watching that intro video again, you're right -- they were clones, then Galeem manipulated the spirits into puppeteering the clones.

There's still the nuance of players saving these characters by defeating their clones though -- saved characters are then customizable with spirits. If we're going with the idea that soul fusions separate characters more, Sheik is capable of soul fusions through these spirits. I don't think anybody's asking for "Sheik with Revolver Ocelot (MGS3) primary spirit and Giga Bowser/Farfetch'd support spirits" to make it in a contest, but it's worth noting she is a unique vessel for these types of fusions.

ZELDA'S SEEDING:

Since our goal is to get Sheik in a contest, this goal may require out-nominating Zelda...so what is Zelda's history with nominations anyway?

2002: not selected by CJayC
2003: 10-seed (~37th-40th most nominated)
2004: snubbed (no higher than ~65th)
2005: 5-seed (~17th-20th most nominated)
2006: 1-seed in Female Bracket (~1st-4th most nominated among women)
2007: entered (no lower than ~128th)
2008: entered (no lower than ~128th)
2009/2010: 10-seed (~73rd-80th most nominated)
2013: 16-seed (~135th-144th most nominated)
2018: 4-seed in main bracket (~33th-40th most nominated)

We have a huge task ahead of us since Zelda is a former #1 seed who is the eponymous character of Sheik's original series. We also saw Breath of the Wild boost both Ganondorf and Zelda's seeding up to 4-seeds. This is a big challenge to overcome, more so than any rally has ever faced.

Fret not though! Zelda has been snubbed before -- see 2004. Also, until Breath of the Wild released, Zelda's seeding looked like it was dropping between 2006 and 2013.

In fact, 2013 is an interesting case study for LoZ-characters:

1-seed: Link
8-seed: Epona
8-seed: Groose
9-seed: Ganondorf
16-seed: Zelda
18-seed: Midna
27-seed: Tingle

Notice Zelda had a 16-seed and she was smoked by Board 8s rally for Epona who got an 8-seed. Heck, we even got Epona to outseed Ganondorf. We could have done this in 2013 -- no reason why we can't score a repeat in the next Character Battle.

I hate to rain on your parade, but there's a few things I feel like noting for accuracy.

First off, 2004 had a company cap of something like ten characters per company, thus leading to many snubs who would have otherwise made the bracket (I seem to recall Serge being one of them). Chances are Zelda was another in this category. Second, 2005 had a format of eight 1 through 8 seeds instead of four 1 through 16 seeds, so Zelda was actually somewhere between 33rd and 40th in terms of nominations.

Finally, and most importantly, Allen auto-assigned nine of B8's most popular rallies (whether for 2013 or historical) to 8-seeds in 2013, of which Epona was one of them. We'll sadly never know if she truly out-nominated Zelda, albeit that 16-seed makes it look rather likely.

Sheik is the only LoZ-character to be a top-ten Smash-character before, and she's been top-ten at least two different times (Ultimate is still new and working out its tiers, plus I switched sites for the details). Toon Link is the only LoZ-character to outdo Sheik, once, in Brawl...but that's not stopping me from taking Sheik > Toon Link in a match if given the chance.

Also, notice how Sheik destroys Zeldas bottom-tier ass with every appearance. #DownB

Does this matter? Yes! Imagine if Marth had a starring role in Ocarina of Time and didn't look or play like seven other jabronies. That's Sheik (get wrecked Marth).

There's no perfect comparison available, but Pikachu and Fox have both been regularly ranked highly in the Smash-series and they can both cause some serious damage. Pikachu and Fox are a bit different, sure; they both have been in Smash since the beginning, and they both have leading roles throughout their original series. In Sheik's favor though, you do NOT underestimate Ocarina of Time.

Since Zelda-leeched-by-Donkey-Kong barely lost to Charizard and Epona beat Ike nearly as much as Pikachu once did, Sheik's got to at least be in the conversation against Fox and Pikachu. She could outright beat them both! That's a quality spot for any debut character, and who knows -- she could surprise us even more from there!

Link is the best LoZ-character in the Smash-series, and hes #1 on GameFAQs. Meanwhile, Sheik is the best Smash-character in the LoZ-series. Lets find out what that means for her.

Thank you for corrections Metal -- I'll touch on each of them.

2004: I'll update that in the records as being no higher than ~30th-32nd since Ganondorf was an 8-seed.

2005: I totally over-looked the seeding style that year and assumed wrong.

2013: fair, Epona probably should have been higher than an 8-seed with how succesful her rally was...! I hear you on the uncertainty though, so I'll also remind everyone Zen got Corvo a 15-seed that same year which still beats Zelda. It's also worth noting Zen did that for Corvo while also getting Yoshimitsu a 20-seed that same contest. Either way you slice this lemon, Zelda's eye hurts...and now Zen and I are teaming up for Sheik, directly against Zelda if we must.

2004 and 2013 also remind us nominations are sometimes just out of our hands, but that's no reason not to try! Whether it's the misfortune of being company capped, the oddball seeding, the fortune of having your gender highlighted...you name it -- anything could happen and we do need a little luck on our side.

Luck is just when hard work meets opportunity though, and this rally's all about building up both of those factors!

Those are the three GameFAQs snubs who are established to have out-ranked Sheik in a game before (Ultimate is still new and figuring out their tiers, plus I had to switch sites), and Sheik would beat all three. Who else even has an argument against Sheik in a GameFAQs match here? Dr. Mario and Dark Samus maaaaaybe, but probably not. Theyre like Zero Suit Samus in how you wont see rallies to get them in over Mario and Samus anyway. Meanwhile, we have something real with Sheik > Zelda, and were not wasting time on those other wanna-bes until they present themselves as a threat.

Sheik is the best character to still be snubbed despite topping out in at least two different Smash-games. She's the obvious next pick!

SB sent the feedback ticket saying he'd file this consideration for Sheik AFTER he posted the Sheik-photo. I do agree Sheik's inclusion in that picture was a discouraging move since previously we told him that wasn't what we were interested in...but he could have said no to us with or without that picture, and he didn't.

By that logic, I'm not sure why we need more Final Fantasy characters either and that series has at least three times the character representation. Did anybody use this as a reason to object Noctis's debut this year?

I don't object to ZSS's inclusion -- not really interested in arguing for it though since Sheik's case is stronger and we're rallying for Sheik.

I do think fans of theirs are more sincere and unique than Dr. Mario, Dark Link, Baby Luigi, or what have you though. Most truly for Sheik and perhaps less so for others but particularly so for Sheik, she doesn't break the spirit of the rule for clones. You don't need Zelda to like Sheik and Sheik isn't represented by Zelda.

Majora's Mask would look so good on the character select screen in a Smash game one day. I don't care tons for the game compared to the rest of the series and don't know how it or Skull Kid would play, but that mask is impactful to look at...

Sheik was beaten to GameFAQs matches by the following individual NPCs perceived to be jokes that were seen in some capacity from the series:

*Paddle, which has been in a bonus match.
*? Block, which has been a proper entrant in one contest and beat a former contest champion in another contest's bonus poll.
*Sandbag, which has been in two contests and advanced to the second round before.
*Mudkip, which has been in two contests and advanced to the second round twice.
*Master Hand, which has been seen in two contests and won two matches.

ZSS, yeah. I'd (very marginally) take Samus over Zelda and I expect ZSS to retain more of Samus' strength than Sheik does of Zelda's.

I'd expect Sheik to beat ZSS worse than Zelda could beat Samus due to Sheik's better Smash-presence and LoZ:OoT crushing M:ZM, but after some of the rallies we saw this year maybe reddit flips the match. Natural strength though, taking Sheik and never looking back.
