OK, you can actually listen to way more albums on the official YouTube channel than the ones I listed in post #9 - almost all of them, in fact. But for some reason these ones are not listed in the playlists. So I'll link to them here (again, in chronological order):

Zappa News:
- As I said earlier, a new album was released on 3/29: Zappa in New York 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. It's a 5CD box set. It's available on Spotify. - A different, shorter version of this album was released on vinyl on 3/29 as well: Zappa in New York 40th Anniversary Edition. It's a 3LP set. - I usually don't discuss rereleases in Zappa News but eh, might as well: in honor of Record Store Day, The Guitar World According to Frank Zappa was released on vinyl on 4/13. This album was originally released on cassette only in 1987. If we count the albums of the Shut Up 'n Play trilogy separately (they were also released as one 2CD album), this is one of six Zappa guitar solo albums. The other five are Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar, Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar Some More, Return of the Son of Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar, Guitar and Trance-Fusion. --- Geothermal terpsichorean ejectamenta ... It has been assumed for a long time that the repeated guitar riff in the original, Captain Beefheart version of "The Torture Never Stops" (as can be heard on YCDTOSA Vol. 4) was taken from "Smokestack Lightning" by Howlin' Wolf, but I just saw someone suggest that it actually comes from this song. Eh, maybe but I still think "Smokestack Lightning" is more probable, given that both Frank and Beefheart loved Howlin' Wolf. Seems more likely to me that this band also copied the "Smokestack Lightning" guitar riff for this song (several people in the comments assume this as well). --- Geothermal terpsichorean ejectamenta ... The CD version of BTHW was actually one of my first Zappa albums. I used to freaking love it, but that's probably because I was a dumb 13 year old kid who laughed his ass off at stuff like the Michael Jackson jokes in "Why Don't You Like Me?" >_> Nowadays, I'm not all that into it anymore.
It has its moments, though. "Stolen Moments" and "Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk" are great and "Any Kind of Pain" contains one of my favorite Zappa solos of all time. Most of the '88 versions of older Zappa songs ("Dickie's Such an Asshole," "Outside Now," "Hot Plate Heaven at the Green Hotel" and "What Kind of Girl?") work really well, too. --- Geothermal terpsichorean ejectamenta ... Not that Zappa relevant, but figured I would put this here.
I had my phone on shuffle today at work and it found "Running With The Night" by Lionel Richie of all things. And something I never noticed before is that at the end of this Lionel Richie pop song is... a hell of a guitar solo, actually. Not like "one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard" or anything, but definitely "way too good of a guitar solo to be shoved into the end of a random Lionel Richie song", IMO at least. I recently lucked into a very reasonably-priced Japanese pressing of Apostrophe ('). This morning, I decided to spin it back-to-back with my faithful old US copy.
The difference is pretty astounding! The Japanese pressing is treble-heavy and carries a brighter sound, fitting for the mostly silly lyrics within. The drums are really pushed to the forefront on this copy, as well as the piano on "Uncle Remus," and the guitar on "Excentrifugal Forz" and "Apostrophe (')" sounds particularly crisp. By comparison, the US copy keeps the instruments more even with one another, and has a bluesier/hazier atmosphere as a result. I prefer the US copy's mix of "Cosmik Debris," since the bridge feels somewhat muted on the Japanese copy, but I otherwise feel like the Japanese pressing is the clear winner. "Uncle Remus," "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow" and "Apostrophe (')" show the biggest improvements - especially "Uncle Remus." It's mind-blowing on the JPN copy. --- Now crack that combination: 27 99 23. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Over the past couple months, I've lucked into more (relatively) cheap Japanese Zappa LPs. Someone on eBay has been auctioning a bunch off; super nice guy, too.
Unlike Apostrophe ('), I haven't owned any of these on vinyl prior, so I can't compare them specifically to other pressings. Nonetheless, here are some thoughts. The Man From Utopia (CBS) - Sounds great all around. The Obi strip complements the cover art well, too. Zoot Allures (Warner Bros.) - I'm not crazy about the mixes for the uptempo tracks. "Wonderful Wino" is hit especially hard; the bridge, normally the song's highlight, sounds oddly limp on this pressing. "Ms. Pinky" also sounds neutered. The slower tracks fare much better - "The Torture Never Stops" and "Friendly Little Finger" are downright excellent here, with mixes that really let the details flourish. Them or Us (EMI) - OUTSTANDING. There are no words for how phenomenal this pressing sounds; it may be the best-sounding LP I own. I believe this is the only Zappa record that EMI pressed/distributed in Japan, and that's a damn shame. I also won a Japanese copy of Zappa in New York, but haven't listened to it yet. It'll be my first time listening to ZINY in full, so I'm excited! --- Now crack that combination: 27 99 23. ... Copied to Clipboard!

It seems to be one of the cheaper Zappa LPs, perhaps due to its polarizing nature. So, it has that going for it too. I love the album, personally. Yeah, I've come to appreciate it more over the years. There's an interview in which Frank explains that he had Steve Vai overdub the vocals in "The Jazz Discharge Party Hats" on guitar to achieve an effect of a George Benson-ish style applied to weird, dissonant melodies that Benson would never play. It's not a song I listen to frequently but I do appreciate the experiment he was trying to do there. Also, "We Are Not Alone" and "Moggio" are great, and I like "The Radio Is Broken" too.
