The source code for NiGHTS into Dreams was given to the team of the ill-fated Saturn title Sonic X-treme as a way of lightening their load. Yuji Naka (from Sonic Team fame) threatened to quit if the code wasn't returned; it was, and ended up costing the latter weeks worth of work. In the end, X-treme was cancelled, despite the valiant efforts of the developers, some of whom had made major sacrifices (one gave up a lease and moved into his office) and health problems (IIRC, one had pneumonia so severe, he was given weeks to live).

The source code for SimAnt was nearly lost in the 1991 Oakland Hills firestorm. If Will Wright hadn't moved it to his office earlier that month, it all would've gone up in smoke, just like his house did. The experience of piecing his life back together from scratch helped inform his work on The Sims series.

King George I of Great Britain died after having hot chocolate for breakfast.

So did his son, George II.

Deciding to be sneaky, his descendant George VI tried to circumvent the Grim Reaper by having hot chocolate as supper instead of breakfast, before turning in for the night. Didn't stop him from being discovered dead in bed the next morning, though.

The Battle of Castle Itter was the only time in World War II where the Americans and Germans fought on the same side. The battle was fought in the closing days of the war in Europe, only two days before the final surrender of Germany. The castle contained several high-status French prisoners of war, including generals, former prime ministers, and the sister of Charles de Gaulle, and it was defended by a unit of Wehrmacht defectors and an American armored unit against an attack by Waffen SS forces.

Drazen Petrovic was a Nets player featured in NBA Jam. Mark Turmell, one of the game's designers, remembers shortly after Petrovic's death (car accident) in 1993, one of the arcade cabinets glitched, repeatedly shouting "Petrovic! Petrovic!" It startled the people nearby, leading to a rumor the game was haunted. Apparently, to this day, original arcade cabinets will randomly shout Drazen's name.

In 2007, Silicon Knights sued Epic Games over issues with the Unreal Engine 3, which the company (SK) had previously announced it'd be using on future projects. Epic Games soon countersued, alleging Silicon Knights had infringed on its intellectual properties and "misappropriated trade secrets". When the case closed in 2012, the evidence was overwhelmingly in favor of Epic Games, who were awarded over $9,000,000 in restitution. The plaintiff, guilty of plagiarizing the Unreal code, was court-ordered to destroy all unsold product built on it, including several games in production. This had a negative impact on X-Men: Destiny, which was pulled from several console marketplaces, along with Too Human.

Around 1808-1809, Earth's atmospheric temperature noticeably dropped. It's culprit is theorized to be a VEI 6 (third-highest caliber) eruption. The problem is, scientists have never been able to pinpoint which volcano it was. All the research so far suggests it's a tropical volcano between Indonesia and South America.

Speaking of volcanos in the 1800s and quoted from google

"The World's Loudest Sound. The sound made by the Krakatoa volcanic eruption in 1883 was so loud it ruptured eardrums of people 40 miles away, travelled around the world four times, and was clearly heard 3,000 miles away".

The Florida/Miami Marlins major league baseball franchise has only made the playoffs twice in their 26-year history, in 1997 and 2003. Both times, they went on to win the World Series, meaning that they are the only team in MLB history that has never lost a postseason series.

Nearly all the shows/films on the United States' DuMont network (active in the 40s and 50s) are considered lost, since no effort was made to preserve their kinescope recordings. According to one source, by the 70s, they were seen as having little to no value and, after being acquired by a competiting network, were reportedly dumped into NYC's East River by the truckload. Of the scant few shows that survived, many weren't copyrighted and entered public domain. Despite that, they're rarely seen as reruns, even though it costs nothing to show. DuMont was the only major broadcast network to close down until, about 50 years later, UPN and The WB were shuttered.

Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, NM has a unique feature: "The Miraculous Stair," which still impresses modern-day architects. According to the tale, in the 1880s, nuns were looking to hire a contractor, but none showed up. On the final day, after the nuns had prayed to St. Joseph, a stranger arrived and offered to take up the task. No one learned his name, and using only simple tools, he constructed a 20-foot-high, railless, helix-shaped staircase with no central support pillar. It was apparently so frightening for some to climb, nuns did so on their hands and knees. The architect's identity was later (possibly) revealed as a French rancher, murdered a decade and change after the work.
