He did fairly well but the Castlevania series gives him a pretty good floor and I think vampires being an enduringly popular thing and his position as THE iconic vampire gives him a lot of credibility. So I don't think his case should be generalized. The Lord of the Rings movies were big enough and well-liked enough that Gandalf could be good too, yeah. Harry Potter might be decent but I feel probably a majority of Harry Potter fans are female which is going to severely limit what he can do on gamefaqs. Alright, so here's a consolidated list that I've compiled. Granted, this is coming from someone in GameFAQs core demographic...so probably missing some more modern stuff.
But you look down this list and you're like, man, I'd really like to see how they stack up against "our" video game characters. Video games versus Pop Culture: The Showdown! Half the entrants from video games, half from Pop Culture. You could stretch and do 64 for each but I'm thinking 32 per side so you're only taking the best of the best. I don't think Beast belongs. Gambit probably beats him too but nobody should try to get Gambit in.
Individual Power Rangers would be absolute junk. I REALLY REALLY don't see the demographic that famously never really took to Tidus despite his game's strength and seems to have turned hard against even a lot of nostalgic "edgey" characters encountering Kylo Ren at around age 30 and saying "Wow, this whiner edgelord guy is great." BB8 isn't much of a character in the first place and with no nostalgia it'd tank hard. Potentially worthwhile manga/anime characters really might just be DBZ guys outside of I guess non-game Pokemon characters. Think Naruto hit too late for the gamefaqs demographic to care about him. Sailor Moon, Yami Yugi, or Spike Spiegel would have potentially higher ceilings, though I think it's more likely they all collapse laughably than look respectable. --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] [NO Advokaiser NO PEACE] ... For South Park characters i'd say Randy Marsh should be on it as he's a dude.
IMO Essentials: Cheetara and Liono from Thundercats Optimus Prime and maybe Megatron too from Transformers Buzz Lightyear and/or Woody from Toy Story K.I.T.T from Knight Rider Buffy the Vampire Slayer (SMG) He-Man and Skeletor Outsiders: Mat Tracker from M.A.S.K Jaws (the shark) Peter Venkman from Ghostbusters Michael Knight from Knight Rider I think maybe Star Wars and Star Trek characters would be better off as part of an entirely different Sci-Fi set along with things like Terminator, Predator and Xenomorph. --- If you ran the world, it would probably be on fire right now. ... From the Yu-Gi-Oh series, the only characters that worth getting in are Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba. No one else from the series would be worth anything in a contest.
