$499 [Litter Robot] + $49.99 [Extended Warranty] - $25 [Referral] - $50 [Amazon Gift Card] = $473.99

I hope it's fucking worth it.

That is weak as hell. There's another $500ish one that you actually connect to water and sewage lines and it basically flushes for the cat after they're done.

I'd be worried someone would think it's a fan, try to turn it on, and somehow shoot a cat turd out of it.

It's around $300 IIRC and it has terrible reviews. Pretty much any automatic litter box we found had terrible reviews EXCEPT for this spaceship looking thing.

In the long run, we think it would save us money since we don't have to hire pet sitters as often anymore. We regularly go on 3-5 day vacations, which requires one or two pet sitter visit, and we go on a couple 2-3 week vacations a year (where we would hire a pet sitter to come every three days). At $35/visit, we're dramatically reducing the cost of our vacations with this thing IF the cats use it, it works as promised, and it can hold a weeks worth of shit per reviews we've read (thus instead of one visit every three days, it can be one visit every six days or so).

Note that we already have an automatic feeder that can hold over a month's worth of food and a water fountain hooked up to the house water system, so automatic litter box is all we need.

We've had an older model for about 5 years and yes, it's fucking amazing and worth it. I change the bag in the drawer once a week and we spray clean it once every couple months. The cats have no problem with it and will just poop on the mat next to it if it's not clean or full, just like they would a regular litter.

We have ours in the bathroom off my home theatre room, so smell was a major factor. I love my cats but fucking hate the smell of shit, and we both spend a lot of time in the ht room. You'll occasionally smell something for a few minutes but that's it, once it rotates and dumps the smell is gone.

Can't recommend it enough.

What happened to it after five years and what did you get to replace it?

Oh, nothing happened, still using the same one. Present perfect tensing is weird.

Ah. That sounds fantastic! Hopefully this one can last as long. I had my doubts, hence the purchase of a warranty extension.

My limited anecdotal evidence is positive. A good friend had it and recommended it, and as far as I know his is still going at 6+ years. We've replaced the filters inside the drawer and a foam around the sphere but otherwise no issues at all. My sister bought one on our advice 3-4 years ago. She didn't clean it though and the cats stopped using it because stuff will accumulate over time, so she just went back to a regular litter instead. Entirely on her there. She did clean it eventually and it the cats resumed using it. I think it's still working fine now, though I think she may have mentioned an issue the last time we spoke. Not sure, I didn't follow up on it.

Sometimes better to be safe than sorry with something with such an integral mechanical aspect for sure though.

Isn't cleaning it just wiping the inside once a month or so?

Yes and no. Wiping alone won't get it all usually, so we use a hose and let it drip dry over the course of 2-3 days every couple months.

How often do you have to deal with the litter? Sift once every day or two? I just change a bag once a week.

I have a much cheaper self cleaning litter box and I love it. It looks like a regular litter box but this rake goes over and pushes shit into a bag at one end. With two cats I change the bag 2x a week. I wash it like every month or two.

Idk if this will work for TCs model but I dont buy the official bags to replace them. I just use free plastic bags from grocery shopping. It saves a lot of money.

I think I know which one you're referring to. Isn't that the one you have to use their special crystals?
