A deep cut is a song that isn't played on the radio or has a music video.

And no, most her 80s music are not hits, she put out 4 albums in the 80s. Most of her music is not heard on the radio. Do you have a favorite album of hers TC?

What I'm getting at is, you make a topic saying thing is underrated. Okay, that's fine. But then all you do is post songs everyone has already heard, and probably still do hear. I'm not sure how you plan on introducing anything new to the table with the same old and stale.

I'm well aware of the MTV/music video boom in the 80s. Deep cuts are still very relevant, especially with the interest in preserving albums that has come about with the internet. Most of my favorite songs are deep cuts.

I don't understand why you think I think radio = bad. I never said those songs were good or bad, I gave no opinion on Madonna, radio music, music videos, popular songs, any of that. All I said was you want to convince people, but them offer them a bunch of songs they have heard many times already, and that's not going to change anyones opinion, or is it interesting.

What are your favorite songs off True Blue? I want to hear some good tunes I haven't heard before. I don't like her enough to listen to her albums, but I want to hear the cream to the crop. Blow my socks off with your favorites man.

There is something special about a song not having radio play in the context of this topic, as that would introduce new material for us to determine that you may or may not be correct.

If I were to tell you, "300 is an underrated movie."
and you say "What? I think I need to see some evidence to understand why"
and in response I post the "This is Sparta!" scene of the movie, you're not going to change your mind, that's the most popular scene. You know it, it adds nothing to your opinion of 300. You feel exactly the same way you did before.

I've never been a Madonna fan, but listening to her old music it's crazy how artistic a lot of it actually is, even in the lyrics. It's a huge departure from the vapid pop music we're accustomed to now

Radio songs can make or break an artist for sure. But the purpose of this topic is not to say Madonna is good, it's to say Madonna is underrated. How do you convince someone to change their mind with knowledge they already know? That's all I'm saying. I never once said any of her music is good or bad, I never said she is good or bad, I never said those songs you posted are good or bad, all I'm saying is you can't expect to change someones mind with, what people interested in the music world would call, common knowledge.

The fact you have spent most of this topic defending 4 songs instead of educating me and others with a plethora of good tracks from her multi decade career leads me to believe you don't really know much more of her catalog either. And that's fine! If those 4 songs make Madonna for you then all the power to you, please enjoy. I just don't think 4 songs in 30 years, 13 studio albums is very convincing.

Going over these quick, these songs were all radio hits in their respective time. A lot of these I haven't heard so that's good, but do you have any songs that weren't dominating airwaves and MTV?

So far I've listened to Borderline, but it's not really my thing, even for the 80s the synth sounds real cheesy to me. and I'm a fan of cheesy synth.

I see where TC is coming from, though. There is a subset of fans who intentionally want to pivot away from the lemming fans by touting "Deep cuts" rather than the songs that casuals are familiar with.

For example, longtime Queen fans will say "Nah, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, Bicycle Race, Another One Bites The Dust are overrated. I'm more into Track 7, Track 9, Track 11, etc." It's this anti approach that obnoxious fans rub in to make sure they aren't part of the herd.

I know there is that stigma with music elitests, but as a big fan of a band like this, it is really annoying to hear "OMG I LOVE QUEEN BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY HEAD BAAAANG" when you're sitting here like "But you love what you were delivered, you didn't dig into this band and grow an appreciation for everything they've done. You just took a meme to heart and are expressing your love for the meme in a wrong way."

I like the message that "there is a lot more than what's on the radio" because that's true, especially for Queen, their discography is almost front to back quality music and any fan of Queen is doing themselves a major disservice in not listening to it. It's unfortunate that the attitudes of the people that are conveying this message are usually mean and elitest.

Okay, let me extrapolate then. The way the synth climbs up and down the major scale isn't pleasing to my ears. It doesn't elicit any amount of excitement or entertainment for me. Her voice is soft and powerful, mystifying almost and I understand why she made it as big as she did. Given this is the main attraction it makes sense this song is a hit and evidence that Madonna is a great artist. I've personally just always enjoying interested backing tracks more than the melody.

The thing is, almost all of Madonna's 80s music was released as a single or has a music video. Her best music was her most popular music and her most popular music was her best music.

After listening to a lot of your songs listed above, my opinion remains the same. A great voice with great melodies that has earned their place as royalty in the music world, but personally just doesn't interest me. I think a lot of CEmen would be swayed by these examples though, CE seems to really enjoy this kind of pop.

You are obviously biased against popular music, so whatever.

Just notice that Madonna rarely if ever gets mentioned in topics about great classic music, which this topic is about.

Janet Jackson is underrated on this board too BTW. Control and Rhythm Nation are fantastic albums.

I asked for more examples because I knew all those songs already (as would most other people) and if you're going to convince someone something is better than they originally give credit for you're going to have to present some fresh material for people to consider a change of mind.

Shes got more than a few songs that fucking slap. I'm a closet Madonna fan.

I like her popular songs tbh, but that really is all I know.
