Board 8 > Pre-contest, I saw a few posts about Crono being the legit #2 on this site

Can someone explain that to me? I've never been much more than a lurker around here, but I don't think I ever saw any contest result that would have had me believing Crono was #2.

Yeah CT really boosted and looked good. But I think there's also natural decay to such an irrelevant character so what really happened I think is that his losses were mitigated.

And people forgetting that even when Crono was at his prime, he was never as strong in character battles as his game was in games contests. Most likely because as strong as that game is, it's still just one game, and Crono doesn't have any others. With a character like Link, it doesn't matter when you grew up, there was probably a Legend of Zelda game involved. If you're a kid now (not that anyone on this site is), there's Breath of the Wild. Teenager, maybe it was Skyward Sword. College kid, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Late 20s/early 30s? Lucky you, you got Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. And even if you're in your 40s, you might have played Zelda 1 as a kid.

Crono? He was in one game that came out in 1995. A very beloved game on this site, but not as timeless as long-running franchises like Mario and Legend of Zelda.

Hard to say; last contest was the first one that had mixed eras so all of the SNES games looked stronger than they did when they were all facing each other early and then Chrono Trigger would lose to FFVII.

Had Melee not started rallying, we would've known for sure because CT and FFVII were set to meet again and we'd see if CT had boosted enough to win that rematch.
