I've been playing for about about two hours, and this seems...suuuuuper boring, I'm sad to say. Curious if anyone else even bothered to sign up.

Digi was playing it and he said he enjoyed it, he got a feeling it was actually gonna have more story and characterization than other shooters of that kind.

I will say that the presentation of the story stuff there is certainly better than Destiny, though the actual setup itself is seriously bland.

It just feels like an absolute stock standard "another one of those", and the stuff it's doing mechanically different seem...bad? Flying doesn't feel good, and the orb collecting thing to open doors seems like Bioware's said "we have to put something here to bring the game to a halt in case they're enjoying themselves too much".

And, perhaps most damning, the shooting is just straight up worse than Destiny. And I don't LIKE Destiny. I know it's theoretically unfair to compare the shooting chops between Bioware and Bungie, but...I liked shooting in Mass Effect more than this?

I dunno, it's an alpha, but not a REAL alpha. This is pretty much what the game is gonna be, right?

This is a demo. A rough demo, but a demo nonetheless.

"True Alpha", lol. An alpha wouldn't even have all the textures mapped yet, much less fully rendered and voiced cutscene.

Man Anthem really has this bland feel to it even when it was first announced. The "alpha" doesn't seem to be sounding any better.

I think that's unlikely. As bland as it seems, it does so because it's tailor made to be the easiest game in the world to market and sell.

Also there the very real possibility that it actually gets super good as it goes! It may not actually be an alpha, but it is still the very beginning of the game.

Maybe. So far it just makes me think it'll be a Destiny 1 sort of thing. There hasn't been much hype worthy I've seen so far. I would like to see Bioware turn it around after their recent stuff

THAT may be fairly damning, yes. Destiny had an incredible a amount of hype before release, Anthem has...none? Every public showing of the game seems to be met with mostly a yawn. I don't think you can necessarily go doom and gloom just from the internet's reaction, tough. The online tone is honestly probably a direct result of Destiny itself tempering expectations for a game like this.
