Heres my take on it:

The parents are fully capable of feeding their kids, lets stop pretending like the only meal they eat all day is at school. The majority of the parents feed their kids at home. The problem here is parent laziness, they arent packing them lunches because they arent making time to put them together and they arent giving them lunch money either because while its not that expensive it starts to buildup.

What is happening on the school side is that they see these hungry kids with no money so they feel bad and let them keep getting lunches but keep adding to their tab.

Then furthermore parents ARE getting notified of their children's balance.
The irresponsible ones are avoiding paying because there isnt much you can do to enforce this.
Its the parents actions causing this and is no fault of the child so no reason to keep the kid from going to school. So that is why they are hiring a collection agency to do this job for them.

My mom knew how to stretch both food and money, and there were still times that I had very little to eat.

Except that's literally where this shit is going. You're asserting that parents aren't supposed to take care of their own kids.

Still trying to make arguments that I neither stated nor implied in any way.

Me thinking that students should be fed while theyre involuntarily at school, and absolutely nothing more, is exactly what I said.

Any time you trying to put words into my mouth or jump off the cliff of hyperbole will always result in the same thing: Being utterly wrong.

Considering that private schools and homeschooling are both options, they're not "involuntarily at school" (or at public schools anyway). More importantly, they CAN bring lunch from home -- and if they had stayed home, their parents would be feeding them anyway. Otherwise this is where you're going. I'm not putting words in your mouth; you're just annoyed that I'm not putting free food in your mouth.

Man, how messed up do your priorities have to be that you're coming out in favour of letting kids go hungry?

That's, like, the most stereotypical petty moustache-twirling-villain thing I've heard other than shutting down the orphanage and tying Nell to the train tracks.

Man, how messed up do your priorities have to be that you're advancing this false narrative? And to push for the further abdication of parental responsibility at a time when it's already at a low?

That's, like, the most stereotypical MSNBC thing I've heard.

Because everything has to be specific to what you remember your experience as being or it doesn't exist? And if your family wasn't on SNAP/EBT, that wouldn't even apply to you in the first place so why would you quote it?

Of course parents are supposed to take care of their kids

But many dont. Should those kids just be hungry and deal with it?

No, and there certainly are some people who take advantage of things, and that applies to any situation at all. But I don't think it happens to the extent that you might think.

And either way it wouldn't change my stance on the situation, because

no matter what the situation at home is or how wasteful the parents may be, I'll gladly pay taxes to feed a hungry, innocent fucking child.
