I went to different local McDonalds twice a month for an entire year.

Every single one I went to had food that was not cooked especially well, didn't taste good and honestly would be cheaper to just buy ingredients to make something worth eating.

For instance, for around 3.60, I can buy enough ingredients to make 4 pizzas that are 14 inches (Dough, sauce, toppings, cheese) which in turn is enough to give 4 people a pizza, or save the dough and make them, which is also enough to have leftovers of each.

However, if I want to buy a pizza, the cheaper ones of the same size are around 13.99, and they do not taste as good for the base itself.

The only downside to it is that to make the dough itself, it takes roughly 2 hours, which quite a few people would be willing to just buy one rather than having to wait.

I rarely make burgers, but making your own is even cheaper than pizza, such as at the market near me, I can buy enough beef to make a dozen burgers for 4, and while I'd either have to make my own buns or buy them, that would cost roughly 1.50 to get them.

So for 5.50 I can get 12 burgers (45.3p each) while that isn't taking into account things like ketchup, mustard, pickles or other things, even with those, it still ends up being vastly cheaper than McDonalds overall.

Well, yeah. Its a little cheaper. But people are also paying for convenience. For example, I dont have time to go home and make a burger at lunch. And Id rather eat some somewhat fresher than 4-6 hours of sitting in my car or work fridge. And warmer, too, I guess... I also dont want to have to make dough and wait for it for 2 hours when Im already getting home super late. Haha.

Northeast of England.

The breakdown of the ingredients...

Sauce - 0.75 for 1 jar, which is enough to make 2 pizzas.
Toppings - Most common ones in my household are pepperoni and jalapeos, though different people like different toppings, and not everyone uses the same ones.

But in short, for 1 we can get a packet of pepperoni, which is enough for 4 pizzas, a jar of olives costs around 0.70 and that makes 10+ pizzas, jalapeos cost about 1 to make enough for 10 pizzas, etc.

But with prices like that, we're only adding in around 0.40 per pizza topping wise.

For the dough, the ingredients are pretty cheap, we can get a good bag of flour for 1.39 that is enough to make 2 and a half batches of dough, which in turn is enough to make 4 pizzas each, so that flour is enough for 10 overall.

Other ingredients for the dough itself is just salt, sugar, oil and some yeast, which doesn't need too much of any of them and ends up adding only a few pennies each to it, most expensive one is the yeast, which costs 1 for a 6 pack, so that ends up being 16.6p

Though we are getting a little off track with that.

The cheese itself, we can get a bag of shredded mozzarella for 1.29, and that's enough for 4 pizzas, making it 32.25p each.

So all of these prices put together are still a fraction of what places like Dominos or Pizza Hut charges, and you also get to decorate them yourself, which is something my girls love to do, such as making little smiley faces or designs on it.

If by "little cheaper" you mean half the price, then yes. =P

But the sheer difference in quality more than makes up for preparation time, since most of it can be done while you're doing other things, such as setting the table, cleaning any dishes you need to serve it, putting some laundry on, etc.

As for the burgers, you would put the dough on before you actually need it, and then when you're preparing it, the dough itself only needs 15 to 20 minutes to cook, which is around the same time you would need to prepare the burger, which can be done in various ways, such as frying the toppings so they taste better, or just preparing the toppings so people can pick and mix what they want.

We usually do that when we have tacos, so there's a separate bowl for rice, diced onions, tomato slices, the sour cream, etc.

In the centre of the table is the plate of cooked tortillas that people can just grab, and then make their tacos however they want.

Though I did mention in the pizza bit that quite a few people would be willing to pay extra to not have to cook it themselves, but another advantage is also that you don't have to clean any dishes after you're done.

Which is something that my wife would be willing to flat out pay someone else to do when it's her turn to wash up. xD

(Which my little ladies often use to get some extra pocket money. =P )

Edit: As for the timing, you are able to prepare it in advance.

For instance, I could prepare curry and rice, then put it in a tiffin so when it's time for lunch, I can just eat it straightaway and not have to worry about how long it takes to prepare.

I think thats cheaper than any stores around here. But I would probably tend you use more cheese l, as well. Which would also knock up the price.

I guess if decorating works for you. All i would need is each slice to have a bunch of cheese and toppings. Haha.

Depends on the quality. People complain about quality all the time. But it depends on if you like the homemade taste. Ive had certain foods that no matter who makes it, I wont like it because it has the homemade taste. But Id rather have the restaurant made ones. Not for every food, but for certain ones. But people seem to think homemade is instantly higher quality. Whether they like it or not. I personally dont agree with it. Whichever taste better is what I like. And its not always homemade. And its not that theyre bad cooks. Sometimes, it just doesnt have the taste I want...

And I do agree with your wife. Id probably pay someone else to do my dishes...

The overall ingredients cost more than that, however you don't use all of them to make the single meal.

If we were to look at the costs of all the ingredients as being a single meal, then it looks to be far more expensive than it actually is.

This is how businesses are able to make profits, by making something, and then selling it for a higher price.

Though the actual way it's made varies greatly from place to place, but there are quite a few smaller shops that sell full sized pizzas for around 3.50 apiece with a small one for 2, and quite a few of them are genuinely good.

Part of this is also knowing where and how to get ingredients.

For instance, if I want to have hotdogs, then Greggs have outstanding hotdog buns, which is 6 for 1, but they taste about a thousand times better than the cheap ones you would find at places like Tesco or Asda, and are still better than the more expensive ones that cost over 2 for a pack of 6.

However, Greggs only makes some a day, and when they're gone, they're gone.

So if you want them, you have to go down as soon as they open, or you have next to no chance of actually getting them.

Other ingredients also cost wildly different amounts, such as flour, if we were to get it from Marks and Spencers, then we're looking at around 4 for a single bag, and that flour is actually very good.

However, if we're getting flour from other supermarkets, then it tends to be around 1.50 to 2.50, and the quality is very iffy, however, Waitrose has a store brand that is very high quality for 1.39.

As for the pepperoni, there's quite a few places to get it from, but Tesco is actually the cheapest for the quality, and they sell a pack of 36 slices for 1, and that's enough to have 9 per pizza which is a fair amount if you spread it out and have other toppings on it as well.

Tesco also sells spicy pepperoni slices, which is 30 slices for 1.70, and you can get literally the same thing just by mixing in some chilli flakes or powder into the sauce itself if you want it to be spicy, and you can buy an entire 500g bag of it for 1.79 from oriental stores such as Tsangs or Hi You, which is enough to last for a few months.

A big part of knowing how to cook is knowing where to get different ingredients, otherwise yeah, you end up with pretty questionable dishes that could cost tremendously more.

For instance, the cheapest pizza toppings at Waitrose cost 2.59, which makes it vastly more expensive.

Though I can't make any specific examples for where you live, since I don't know what you have readily available, but the ones I make were better than pizza take out in multiple taste tests.

1.27 dollars in a quid so not that much tbh. Still breakfast at McDonald's costs between 3 and 5 over here so it certainly isn't worth it. However when eating out you expect to pay more. It also saves on cooking and washing up.

Did you even read the post?

The price of a certain number is taken from how much is used.

I'm not going super detailed into this as the other ones did.

If we're going for the ingredients for 4 of them, it's like this.

If you have an ingredient that can be used to make 4 of them, then the price to make 1 is divided by 4, however, if you have another thing that can be used to make 10, then we're looking at 10% of the price for what is actually used.

While if we looked at the price of all the ingredients for the entire package, then yes, the price seems higher, but that is extra ingredients that go towards other ones.

From this, we can also try to calculate how many ingredients we need to get to make a set amount, such as 10.

Since several things (Like the jalapeos, olives, flour, etc) can be used to make 10 pizzas for a single one.

While others (Such as sauce and cheese) can go for 2 comfortably, so we'd have to get 5.

So on and so forth.

Though within the 10 pizzas, the only spillover you'd have is pepperoni, since 1 packet is good for 4, so you'd have 2 pizzas worth leftover, but you could just divide up the leftovers across the other ones.

However, different toppings are based on what you personally want on the pizza, so the price can vary depending on how complex or simple it is.

This has gone on in excessive detail and I'm not going to make another post about this, at this point, you can believe whatever you want, but it can be done.

I can get a 4 pack of multi-use sponges at Dollar Tree for a dollar. They're sponges.

As for McDonald's breakfast, that shit is dope. But then again, I feel it's also bad, because 3 Sausage and Cheese McMuffin's can hold me over until dinner, which, ain't good. However, shit's still good. As for their lunch and dinner menu, I don't like it. I'll usually get like a large fry and a shake, but that's it.

However, the people trying to bash McDonald's, secretly know, they're out there, at Midnight, picking up a Quarter Pounder.

If its fresh you need a bacon egg and cheese biscuit, sausage egg mcmuffin, or steak and egg mcmuffin. And try a big mac with an extra slice of cheese.

Mcdonalds food is pretty good. But it's not good at all for you.

I still eat it though. But I just eat more homemade food these days.
As in only when I'm out and don't feel one bit like waiting or preparing my own (or my family's) food when I make it home.

I eat Arby's a lot more though. Their roast beef'n'cheddar has put some kind of spell on me...

I like most of their brraskfast menu. For their lunch/dinner menu, I can eat it, but I mostly just like the fries...

I can get a 4 pack of multi-use sponges at Dollar Tree for a dollar. They're sponges.

Something that lasts one time doesn't count as a sponge.

Something being filling isn't good?

This is completely shocking. Fast food is bad for you?!
