"Generally negative" is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but least for the Steam version, PUBG has a reputation as quite unpolished, and PUBG Corp. as highly unresponsive to players' concerns and slow to enact change. Most particularly, they started a 'Fix PUBG' campaign a few months back due to all the complaints, which hasn't produced much yet beyond new maps.

I can't believe I'm 7th in the 2nd chance bracket.
And I really can't understand how I jumped 22 spots with yesterday's matches.

The people who were ahead of me must have had Zelda winning twice, or they wouldn't have been that high in the first place.

Thus, they had Snake and Sonic in Losers, and Sonic > Snake was never going to happen.

Did 22 people seriously have faith in Tifa/Seph over Samus? How?

Ok sorry I overreacted. It's just that there is something in the way you talk that gives off a condescending feel. But I don't mean to make enemies with you.

For the record, you're not alone -- I've also had similar feelings about Yuri lately. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems like there's a certain kind of brash attitude that's assumes more confidence than necessary in debated topics with him and that makes nuance feel disregarded.

Similarly not trying to make an enemy here either. I don't think it was the best time to call out for this during the two times I've seen him called out for it, but I do see where you're coming from in general and am glad to see it wasn't just me.

haha cmon guys this result is getting some of you carried away.

Here's an example of what I think we're talking about, especially since we saw Tifa > Sephiroth. How far away is Sephiroth from Cloud nowadays? SSB4's DLC may have separated them more, but historically they've been close. I'm taking Cloud > Mega Man, but this isn't settled.

I think a lot of people just don't really care for silent mains in their JRPGs at this point. Hence Crono's struggles despite Chrono Trigger's massive boost.

Kinda sticks out in an era where almost every big game has extensive voice acting.

Persona 4 might be the strongest non-Nintendo/Square JRPG we've seen. That or Tales of Symphonia. Persona 5 could land around that area too.

Probably need to add non-Square (since KH, Chrono and FF are all stronger) and Japanese (since Skyrim, Fallout, potentially KOTOR, etc are stronger).

And even then... ugh... watching Persona 3 lose to DQVIII makes it hard to have much confidence in the franchise. Persona 4 and 5 should be much stronger than 3, especially after Joker got in Smash + Persona 5 Switch rumors, but it's hard to say.

I think the only games challenging it for the title are Tales of Symphonia and Dark Souls.

I think most of us called Dragon Quest VIII/Persona 3 wrong not despite Persona having some strengthbut but rather exactly because of it. We figured the rising Persona 4 tide would lift all boats and it...didn't. Instead DQVIII/P3 played out pretty much how the GotD x-stats said it would while Persona 4 got a major boost.

Match=I told that Link would break 60% and that Cloud would be lucky to avoid a doubling. I was right. Damn.

I really doubt the fifth smash game is having such a huge impact in the popularity of Link, especially when Cloud is also in it.

I don't have much confidence in Persona 5. We seem to always overrate how strong Persona is every contest, but the series is still really niche..

Instead, I'd suggest A Link Between Worlds as a potential top 10 GotD2 game.

If extrapolating Tifa through Mario/Samus and Samus/Tifa, and then assuming Mega Man X = Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario beats Zelda with 52.66%.

If Sephiroth = Sonic, Mario beats Zelda with 51.65%.

If Ryu = Fox McCloud, Mario beats Zelda with 54.72%.

Analysis

I think a lot more people need to be hyped about this match. Zelda has had an amazing run through the bracket and I am not 100% sure it ends here, ignoring the losers bracket. Her general performance is not too far from what I would expect Mario to do, even if you take into account that most of her opponents had reason the be weaker this year.

With that said, Mario has also shown his strength. Even against a weaker Sephiroth, I doubt most people would take Squall or Aerith against him and while he didnt SFF Samus, defeating her still requires a great deal of strength. This does feel like one of those matches where Zelda will get close, but fail to win. Though if you do want in invoke hierarchies Zelda could potentially pick up enough Nintendo votes to create an all-Legend of Zelda final.
