so SFF is when the shared fanbase makes the normally strong person like crazy strong as fans for the loser ditched them for the winner

rSFF is when there's a shared fanbase but it's the normally weaker character that's siphoning off saves from the stronger one

So SFF is when LoZ fans vote Ganondorf in other matches and then abandon him the second he faces Link and make him look like an utter joke.

SFF = Same Fanbase Factor

Normally if Link gets 53% on Cloud and then Cloud gets 53% on Snake, you can assume through linear transitivity that Link will get around 56% on Snake. This is the foundation that a lot of the xstats that we use are based on.

However, assume that Link gets 53% on Cloud and then Cloud gets 53% on Ganondorf. Well, you might believe that Link gets 56% on Ganondorf. However, as we've found, Link would overperform in this situation and score like 80% because Link and Ganondorf share a fanbase and people who play Zelda overwhelmingly prefer Link.

rSFF = Reverse Same Fanbase Factor

So if again say Link gets 53% on Cloud and then Cloud gets 53% on Ganondorf but then Link only gets 51% on Ganondorf instead of the 56% predicted, then we can that rSFF because Ganondorf overperformed.

Not necessarily that they are abandoning him. The idea is that these are Legend of Zelda fans who like Ganondorf but they prefer Link.

LFF is not really relevant in this contest. It stands for Leeching Fanbase Factor, where in multi way polls, characters or games with similar fanbases leech from each others voting pool, allowing other entrants in the poll to look better, even potentially placing over characters they normally wouldn't beat.

For example, if Link vs. Mario vs. Cloud occurred, Link and Mario would essentially SFF each other, which would almost certainly guarantee Cloud a victory over Mario and possibly putting him above Link.

it's more-so about multiple-character polls, and it's regarding just the general case of Character C siphoning off enough saves from Character A to let Character B pull ahead when he normally shouldn't

so normally A would beat B, but because C is leeching off of A, then B allowed to take advantage without having any relationship to either

Yeah LFF is more or less just SFF adapted to multi-way formats

SFF is a lot of fun though. Link making Ganondorf look worse than CATS in 2004 was tremendous.

Interesting fact is that until Mario vs Samus in this contest, people were not sure if rSFF existed at all!

Now we know it does.
