I'm going to Maui later this month for about 10 days. I'm staying in a condo for about 1600 dollars for the entire trip. I just looked up the cost of renting a car for 10 days, and it's about 1200 dollars, which is just crazy to me.

I could buy a car for that much.

All about the location, really. Renting a car to travel across the midwest for a week runs as much as a car for two days in a major city.

Shop around. You can find much better deals than that. I think I typically pay around $40 a day

I found another place that rents cars for like 60 dollars. I'm going to Maui over Christmas and New year's, so maybe that's a problem

Yeah, I don't think we'd go super far everyday. I'm not sure how much we would even use the car.

They also say Uber can cost at least $60 a day if you go to the popular places (which we probably will)

Try actually calling the rental companies and tell them the prices youre seeing, see if they can offer you a better deal

There's an app like Airbnb, but for cars. Check it out. It's called Turo.

Rent a bicycle. Or buy a cheap one from Walmart then donate it to charity when you leave (and then you can write that off on your taxes). The weather in Hawaii is usually pretty good all year round and you'll be able to see more scenery on a bike than in a car.

Check with the hotel, there are often free shuttles to many locations and even if it's not to the location you want, it can be near it then you uber the rest of the way for cheap.

Bus lines can also work etc (public transportaiton) then just ubering for the last bit, or when you can't actually take a bus etc.
