It's not as fun as the Classicvania games that it's trying to emulate IMO, but I can't really explain it. Well, I can think of things that are annoying, but I don't know if that's the issue.

It's really lame when your obvious good character for a particular section dies so you just have to fart around with who you have left but half the time you might as well just suicide all of them so you can get the good one back. It would have made more sense to me to either have you continue where you left off when one character dies, or just have that be a death that takes away a life but you start with all four at full strength.

The bosses aren't really like CV bosses either. Classic CV bosses are quick and tense. These ones are all choreographed and methodical. Oh, and there's nothing stupider than having the boss deal out damage after you defeat it, with some completely new attack that is totally unpredictable. I haven't died from that yet though.

Lol. It's always funny when people say this because those attacks can't kill you.

Still waiting on Ritual of the Night; I thought we would get it BY NOW.

That's good I guess but what is the point of those then? I don't really get what it adds to the game

I played it a little bit and I felt it was a little opposite of what you said. When I go back and play classic Castlevania games, the enemies and bosses seem slower than the ones in Bloodstained. It could be because I have played those so many times that the patterns they take I know. The game to me looked like classic Castlevania but played more like SotN.

The game overall feels faster but I mean the bosses are slow in the sense that they are damage sponges and it usually takes a while between each time they attack you. In the classic games you take out bosses in like eight hits if you have the right weapon, all these feel like they take 30 or something. It gets kind of boring once you figure out the pattern and everything becomes easy to dodge. In the classic games the bosses were often hard to dodge (for me at least) so it became this duel of who can take out the other's health bar first

Yeah I can see that, I also agree that last attack if it can't hurt you why put it in. It also would be annoying if it did hurt and you had very little health left.

Dodge the attack and you get an extra life...not that you'll need it outside of one specific challenge.

I backed the physical copy so I'm waiting for that.

I dunno, I kinda feel Mighty 9 went through the same thing. These games were supposed to replicate a classic but without the original license they were limited in how close they could get. Also like Duke Forever, not terrible but couldn't capture what made the originals great.

I never played MN9, but wasn't it way more of a mess (both the Kickstarter and actual game)? CotM is competently made and feels pretty good and all, it's just boring and unimpressive. The main Bloodstained game does look like it could be a little rougher though, based on my recollection of the trailer

I didn't like it. I never played the original Castlevania games so I thought that maybe I just didn't have nostalgia for it, but apparently it's just not good.

I played through it, was ok. Wasn't as refined as MMX of course. It could probably get there if they made more. MM 1 is a weird game. MM 2 is where the series hit its strong points. Unfortunately sequels aren't guaranteed these days.

I'd say if there's one thing gamers indiscriminately love (which is funny because they usually indiscriminately hate things), it's retro-styled indie games. And I mean, the game is perfectly okay, but I can't picture "loving" it. It's like Shovel Knight all over again for me. A decent, polished game, but I'd rather just play most of the games it's imitating; why all the hype for something that was done better 30 years ago?

Shovel Knight was good, it just didn't stir anything in me. It's an amalgamation of stuff everyone has already seen decades ago. I'd say it's better than Bloodstained since there is a lot more going on with the gameplay, but all those things also pit it against a lot of games in comparisons and it's a tall order standing with those.

I'm a sucker though, I'll probably buy the next retro-indie clone of an old game if I still bought Bloodstained after Shovel Knight. I think I like the idea of it but nothing has really blown me away.

Having to lose all characters before you lose a life does suck for certain bosses that are clearly designed for one character.

I dunno. I've completed the game solo as all 4 characters. So when you say "good character dies" it just means you need to 'git gud' yourself.

On a more serious note. This game is way easy compared to castlevania 1 or 3. No matter which way you look at it. The controls are tighter, and there's just so much more you can do. If you die, it's because you weren't paying attention to health bars and didn't switch your character soon enough.

I thought it was a fun game overall, and the bosses did take too long. That much I agree with. But all the characters shine in their own way. Except for Gebel. He was mediocre, but the game is still perfectly doable with him.
