Had some of the worst draw luck imaginable and I still managed to get 5-3 in the brawl. In eight games, I drew...

Zul'jin - Never
Subject 9 - Never
Spellbreaker - Never
Rexxar - Once
Spellstone - Twice

Also, I ran two Bloodscalp Strategist just to try out another new card, and in none of the games did I ever draw one while I had a weapon.

How in the fuck did I manage to win five games...?

I'm not running a lot of the cards those decks are running though. No Kill Command, Flanking Strike or any spells that could blow back on me when I played Zul'jin. No Tracking or literally anything draw except Subject 9. Outside of Subject 9, the only minions I was running were a Spellbreaker and the Bloodscalp Strategists. Obviously no Rhokdelar/To My Side with the few minions in there. No deathrattle/eggs, no rush, no dinos/big minions. I was really just trying to play around with Zul'Jin and have a fun, explosive turn, but that never happened. This was not an ideal list of Hunter cards by any means.

I feel like the ~150 damage I did in those five wins was mostly just from hero powers and Explosive Traps. Also, two players killed their own minions with their face because no one remembers that Misdirection is a card.

Basically, uses secrets, flanking strike and candleshot to stay alive earlygame, and then switches to dragon synergy cards. Scaleworm, Wyrmguard, and Primordial Drake are generally straight up good cards.

My early iterations would have problems of still running out of cards, though (if I didn't run Rexxar), which is why I put in as much card generation as I could. 2x Stonehill Defender, Lich King, and Ysera.

Emeriss is honestly mostly there to sit in hand and activate dragons, but the doubling effect can be pretty relevant. (If you get a 7/22 taunt from doubling a Wyrmguard, then a taunt druid might be forced to suicide their whole board into that just to survive. And if you have a hand full of Zombeasts it can get pretty good).

Cobalt Scalebane should probably be replaced by one of those shiny new dragons, like the one with the aoe board clear. It's mostly there to be a dragon, although I will say that buffing the attack on Stonehill Defender so that it actually has a real statline is pretty good if it happens.

Some of the other dragon synergy cards should likely be added too; I've heard reports that they're pretty good.

The deck is...alright. I'm very close to 50% winrate with it on ladder, which unfortunately means it's not great for climbing; think I used it to get back up to rank 5 once, but usually other decks climb faster. Still a fun deck to pull out every once in a while. Don't think it will ever be meta, though, as doing things with Cube just has a much higher ceiling for lategame potential in hunter.

Like, in theory i think it's a good card, but it's hard to really leverage that into wins when I don't actually draw her when I need her (i've had several games where if I played her I would probably seal up a win... but despite drawing like 20+ cards from my deck I didn't see her). Like Spellbreaker is good in a lot more situations (especially against hunter).

Started out 4-1, but went 4-3 in the tavern brawl. Honestly a little disappointed. One of those was vs Shudderwock where...I made mistakes, there were draws I could have prevented and I got hit by mind control tech. Still a really close game; I know how to pressure Shudderwock, and my opponent was really pressured; forced to wock early with a less than 50% chance of combo success. The other two were just...weird off-meta decks where I didn't know what to play around. Even Shaman with overload synergy and Likkim but also Grumble (what?) Pirate Paladin (where I did not play around Tarim on 6, really should have seen that coming in retrospect). Probably could have won those games with more meta experience, but I'm also pretty sure that's why they're doing the tavern brawl now so that people playing unexpected decks can show them off.

I consistently beat the decks I was metadecking for at least (won every game vs Odd Paladin, Spell Hunter, and actually didn't face any Odd Mages).

Wow, what's with all the taunt Hadronox druids lately?

Whenever I get cute and come up with my own midrange deck, if I face that deck it's like "fuck you, I have 7 hadronoxes so my endgame is better than yours". Like...man fuck that deck. Other druid decks are generally ok whatever. Like...did you play around spreading plague? Cool, you pass the test. Maybe you'll take 24 damage from Malygos but if you survive that you win.

But hadronox requires super specific answers that really limit creativity in deckbuilding.

I won't necessarily miss Rexxar, but I will miss building zombeasts. Would be cool if they made like a 2 mana spell "discover a zombeast" next year, cause the mechanic of mixing beasts was quite fun, even if doing it every turn was a bit much.

Jaina can go fuck herself.

Guldan can go fuck himself.

Anduin can go fuck himself.

Thrall...I'll miss Thrall a little bit. Made for interesting deck construction. Playing a fungalmancer and then hero powering your fungalmancer with Thrall felt really good.

Malf I barely notice exists TBH. Although I guess all the people who opened Gonk will miss him. But I barely notice him playing against him. His hero power is on a similar power level to Odd hero powers; I'm so used to fighting against hero powers at about that power level.

Garrosh is cool. AoE weapon, whirlwind hero power. Doesn't go into Odd Warrior. I mean, honestly I might not notice if he's gone, cause he's played so little these days, but I like the concept.

Uther...no, the concept is just bad. Even in decks that plan to bounce minions to hand, you still have to hope you don't RNG a minion you already have in hand. Just...bad design all around.

I get more charge and poisonous minions than I could ever want, but I rarely seem to ever roll into Lifesteal. And if I do it's always Bloodworm right after I just picked a 4-cost minion so I can't even play it on that turn. Straight up don't remember the last time I saw a Scalehide.

Sitting on 5-2 with a super greedy Boomsday Deathrattle Hunter + Oondasta deck. I figured if I get to high wins, I'm going to be facing a lot of Druids and other beefy late-game decks, so I just took out all my early-game tools besides Candleshot. Got run over by Odd Paladin and Tempo Mage, but destroyed my other 5 matchups.

In the four games of those I had where I was able to Deathstalker fairly early, the biggest Lifesteal minion I made the entire time was a 3-mana 2/4 Jeweled Macaw/Scalehide combo on a turn I just needed to get two cards out of my hand.

Just had an arena game with three Emerisses played, and I was a Warrior and he was a Druid. His was from a Bone Drake. I got one from a Dragon Roar, then used Griftah to get War Master Voone (which doubles the dragons in your hand). Unfortunately I won before I could drop either of my 16/32 Primordial Drakes.

I have a couple decks hovering around 55% or so, around rank 3-4 so...functional but not meta busting.

1. Deathrattle hunter, and

2. a more aggro-ish Odd Mage with Kirin Tor Mage, secrets, Cinderstorm, and 2x Clockwork Automaton. (I don't have Frost Lich Jaina so I improvised and turned it into a midrange deck with lots of potential for lategame burst to the face). Still actively tuning that deck though. I cut down to one Explosive Runes and went up to two counterspells cause there's too many Spell Hunters running around.

Of all the cards that could be seeing play at top legend...I didn't expect Hakkar the Soulflayer.

First of all, oof, they really need to speed up that animation.

Second...seems like on an empty deck with bloods in it, draw 2 will cause you to draw through the deck and shuffle bloods twice.

So like...with one blood in the deck, Togwaggle, Naturalize, Naturalize is...from fatigue 1+2+3+4+5, and then from blood 3+6+12+24+48. If the opponent uses Time Out, they'll only take 48+5. If you have more than one blood to start with...well, Dog demonstrates 185 damage (completely unnecessary, the Paladin only had 48 HP and Timeout).

In other druid combo stuff, I got Gonked for the first time yesterday. (Not even the double Gonk combo, he just cleared my board with one Gonk, UI'd my face, I cleared off all his minions, and then he killed me next turn with Leeroy+Swipe+Claw.

I think I've slightly undersold Gonk for a few reasons. One, it can break Twig from basically any durability if there's any minions on the board. Two, even without mana shenanigans, Gonk + Prince Taldarim is 10 mana, and the new +2 attack spell is 0 mana, so the combo can hypothetically operate without Dreampetal Florist or Twig.

I don't think it can ever become the best Druid deck, but times I normally feel safe against Druid are not safe against this deck.

Maybe after rotation when Drood loses some key combo pieces tho. And spreading plague, and UI, etc. I mean, Dreampetal is going to be around to discount Maly (and any other big bois) for a long time still, assuming it's not HoF'd. So that may very well always be a thing for Druid. But without the stall and armor gain ad nauseam, perhaps Druid and its combos will look different after rotation.

Or, they'll just print more busted cards for the class and we'll all complain about it still.

After looking through standard, here's a list of changes I'd make

Druid
Wild Growth
-Get rid of the excess mana at 10 mana.

This might actually be a little too much of a nerf, but I don't see a way to hit this without making it really bad (like making it 3 mana), or making it so both players gain the mana.

Branching Paths
-Reduce the armor gain from 6 to 3.

This still lets you power up spell stone, but doesn't let you use it as a stall effectively versus aggressive decks.

Nourish
-No longer gives full crystals on ramp.

This should be self explanitory. This is by far the most popular proposed change to this card.

Spreading Plague
-Scarabs changed from 1/5 to 1/4

Still pretty sure plague is too good even in the current game state.

Ultimate Infestation
-Add effect: Your turn ends immediately after you play this card.

I've thought about changing it to all 4s, but I think the planning around playing this card with the change I proposed is just better. The only really bad thing is that the card already has a lot of text so the feasibility of this actually being considered is probably really low.

Hunter
Lesser Emerald Spellstone
-Changed to read: Play a unique secret to upgrade.

I'm on the fence if this is strong enough to be nerfed. It's more that secret hunter is such a polarizing matchup and it's really this card that does it. I think because hunter has like zuljin, rexar, and other things too that even if this happened it would still have a strong enough game later on to make its bad matchups against control not be awful. This also creates games where aggro can actually attack and eliminate secrets from the pool of things the hunter might play, and also make the hunter choose secrets they might not have otherwise.

Deathstalker Rexar
-Cost up to 7

Not sure what else to do to this. The card is among the biggest design space limiters in standard right now.

Mage
Primordial Glyph
-Can no longer discover itself.

Paladin
Unidentified Maul
-Divine shield is changed to give minions +1 Health

I still think +1 health is strong, like maybe better than divine shield in some cases, but in a lot of cases they play this and if they get divine shield it's like they win and if they don't they lose. So just take that away and actually make them play a game instead of rolling an extremely OP rng trigger. I'd also consider taking out taunt for something better than that to even this out, but don't know what that would be.

Priest
Shadow Visions
-Can no longer discover itself.

Duskbreaker
-Stats reduced to 2/2

Eternal Servitude
-Changed to read: Discover a friendly minion that died this game with a mana cost equal to or less than your current maximum mana and summon it.

Rogue
Kingsbane
-Durability to 2 (from 3)

If they are going to keep making tutors for weapons 3 durability on this is pretty excessive imo.

Shaman
Shudderwock
-Cost up to 10 (from 9)

Not sure what to do that like doesn't ruin this. It has to be 2 mana because of theming.

I got killed by an Aggro Pirate Kingsbane deck because he took 5 swings at my face with a 6-damage Kingsbane by Turn 8.

Not sure if it's just me, but every time a new expansion comes out I feel like the amount of people who rope to the very last second on turn one is tenfold. I'd say at least a third of my games in the last few days have gone this way.

Also, Stargazer Luna is really good in Secret/Subject/Spell Hunter. That game changed fast.

The one thing I will say in defence of the new kingsbane decks is that some people are turning it into an aggro deck, and removing the lifesteal buff from their deck.

And like...maybe that causes them to win on turn 8 a little more often, but at least now there's a clear path to victory. (Just stay alive and go kill them, it's not that different from the old Pirate Warrior deck that also went face super hard).

Wooo turned 1-2 into this in my free Tavern Brawl.

Took out a Kingsbane deck along the way that had a 10-damage Lifesteal weapon, because on Turn 8, I played Kathrena, pulling out Oondasta, attacked a 2/4, pulling out my Stitching Tracked Oondasta, attacked his 2/2, pulling out my King Krush so I could hit him for 9. That might be my single most satisfying turn I've ever had playing Hearthstone.
