I opened my first mystery box on the way to work today. Caught 18 meltan and used a pinap on each so I'm a bit over 120 candy. It'll take about 3 weeks to have enough to evolve so I hope I found a good IV one by them. Best today was a 78%. I'll probably just send that one too the switch to be my unevolved version on there.

If you were for instance doing the 1500 CP battle league...
Is it better to have a low level version of a 3000+ max cp Pokemon OR is it better to have a high level version of a Pokemon that can barely reach 1500 CP?

I don't think there's a universal answer. You have to look at the dps and energy gain of their basic moves, the energy efficiency of their charged moves, and their HP.

Community day moves tend to be powerful/efficient. Beyond that I don't know offhand, but I saw a Reddit spreadsheet of various moves' efficiency for pvp. Don't have the link atm on mobile.

In other news I sprinted on 15 minute break to reach a ho-oh raid and caught my first one. Downed it with a group of only 4 of us. It was one of the glaring holes in my Pokedex from when they were first available.

I got lucky with the Cubone spawn. Then I had an Aerodactyl research reward saved up. Just a matter of going to the beach while Partly Cloudly and found the fossils quite easily.

I have a couple of each Lugia and ho-oh now, but no shiny.

I'd have more but my wife and I planned a trip for this weekend so we didn't have the time available too spend the whole weekend raiding. No regrets because it was still a fun trip, but it would have been nice if Niantic hadn't scheduled it on the weekend we absolutely couldn't do much about.

I just won't open the gift that you send me when we're within a few days of a tier up. Then I just make sure not to send you a gift after you open one taking is to 1 day away so I have complete control of the timing for the tier.

I caught a 93% IV heatran today.

And I encountered a 98% IV heatran but it got away.

I only had 7 balls to catch it with so I was pretty salty about that one.

On Android I use an app called Calcy IV

It doesn't violate Niantic's roles by accessing their servers, it merely reads your screen.

When you have the app open in the background it overlays a button onto your screen.

If you press that button while you are viewing a Pokemon it will determine what Pokemon it is, what the CP is and it will read the level bar to determine what level it is. Then based on the CP it gives you a range of IVs.

So you might scan something and it will tell you that it's IVs are between 77-91%. And then you can do the appraisal feature and it will take that information and refine it further. Often between the initial scan and the appraisal it would know the exact IVs between 0-15 for all 3 stats. Sometimes there will be more than one possible combination of IVs so you can either be content with the small range or you can power the Pokemon up and try again.

If you are an Android user as well I can cover Calcy IV in greater detail if you want (I love it) but to my knowledge it doesn't exist on iOS so Apple people use something similar but not exactly the same.

On iOS here; I use PokeGenie, which works the same way as Calcy but you have to feed it screenshots of the Pokmon rather than having an overlay and then manually select appraisal responses.

So essentially, because CP is a reflection of stats then one 2500 could Pokemon will be otherwise identical to another, right? Even if one is alow level, but high IV legendary and the other is high level, low IV something else.

Right?

They only difference will be the breakdown of stats that lend themselves to that total.

And because the CP formula favors attack then you could pack more total stats into a low attack Pokemon and still have it clock in under the CP break points.

No you won't!

One you start fighting gyms and putting your Pokemon in gyms to defend them you will earn coins.

You earn 1 coin for every 10 minutes that your Pokemon is guarding the gym.

You don't get one could ever 10 minutes however. You get it all paid out at one when you're Pokemon gets kicked out by another team and your pikemen returns to you.

So if it's in the gym 30 minutes you would get 3 coins.

You can only earn 50 coins per day. So if you already earned your 50 for a day and someone kicks out a Pokemon of yours that had been in it's gym for 12 hours you get nothing. But if that same Pokemon had lasted until midnight before being kicked then it would have earned you your 50 for the following day.

So you want to guard gyms that are out of the way enough that they aren't changing hands every 15 minutes, but aren't SO out of the way that your Pokemon sits there for over a week.

I'm usually pretty consistent with my gym guarding so I get my 50 most days. Probably averaging around 300 a week.
