I have now finished all three seasons of Yuru Yuri. I always enjoy slowly watching through these CGDCT/comedy anime, and this one was definitely a lot of fun. It didn't manage to become a favorite in the genre for me, though, and I spent awhile wondering why since it had quite a few great moments and was put together well. In the end I think I narrowed it down to the characters just not quite working for me. Akari was my favorite by a wide margin (the one story that was just her sitting alone and talking to herself while waiting for a train was my favorite of the show). Ayano was second just because I enjoyed her crush on Kyoko. The rest of the cast were all situational, with there being times where they were great and other times where they felt kind of average (though still entertaining). Kyoko, Chinatsu, and Sakurako were the biggest examples of hit-or-miss, either elevating a scene or dragging it down if they went too crazy, which was a problem because those three got some of the most focus out of everyone. Still, even at its worst, Yuru Yuri was a fun anime! It just couldn't reach the heights of shows like Kiniro Mosaic for me.

I think this sort of thing would be more useful in deciding how likely prisoners are to re-offend though. Seems like the sort of thing that would help give more effective treatment to criminals and decide who gets parole and such.

Yeah, since making that post I'm actually pretty comfortable moving HeroAca off the top 10. While I do like the opening and middle arcs, I don't feel like they were any more exciting in the anime than they were in the manga. The back half being what I feel is the weakest arc in the series is just icing.

Not that I'm saying I don't still love the show, I just think it got beat out this year. Top 10 is coming together a little clearer, but there are enough shows that can veer off or on path with 3 episodes or so left that I'm still waiting.

HeroAca is still gonna be in my top 10 because the first half is just too strong. Second half is definitely weakest of the series and I don't blame people for taking it off of top 10 because of that, but then the ending and Kacchan vs Deku brings it back up again for me.

Second half of MHA S3 had the best scene in the anime though (Deku vs Bakugo). I agree on it being generally weaker than the first half, but I liked it way more than the weak halves of S1 and S2.

That filler episode with Momo's group is what really brings it down for me. I was shocked how much I really didn't care for it, I'm usually pretty up on all things HeroAca.

Because Gang Orca is fuckin rad and one of my favorite Pro Heroes, I won't hear any bad talk about him

2. Bloom Into You
3. Steins;Gate 0
4. MHA Season 3
5. Bunny Girl Senpai

...with the disclaimer that I'm still only 2 episodes into Devilman, and that has a very very good chance of breaking into this somewhere by the time I'm done with it.

Also Bloom Into You probably drops a couple places if it goes with a hardcore "read the manga" ending, which is a definite possibility. Don't see it dropping below 5th regardless though. (Again, before Devilman comes into the picture--might be 6th after that depending on what happens)

I could do a top 10, but I've only seen 15-20 shows, so I'm not sure it's worth it.

The "anime was a manga ad" risk is why Bloom into You is the most likely of those 11 to fall off my list, a danger that Zombieland and Gridman don't have to worry about. Rascal would be under similar risk for it's LN, but my understanding is that entire series plus it's movies are already roadmapped out.

I'm still hurting from Re:Zero doing it, though at least it got two cours. Still have hope, we literally got a new FMP season this year.

I still haven't started Bloom into You and I need to catch up on Iroduku since I really liked the two episodes I saw of it. Bunny Girl seems to be doing really well, so my only complaint is that it's sad they didn't know it was going to do well and give it more budget/episodes. As much as I'm enjoying it, two episodes simply hasn't been enough to give some of these arcs the pacing they deserved. That's what knocked it down from being a contender for AotY to only sitting at fourth on my top five.

Right now it...MIGHT be the frontrunner, though the climax being in a movie next year does put it at risk. The only arc that I felt ended too rushed was this latest one. I'm honestly shocked at they manage to cram so much in so quickly without it falling apart.

Antarctica is probably it's strongest competition.

Toradora thoughts after 4 episodes.... imma put them in spoilers for now but I dunno if anyone else actually cares with how old it is.

The soundtrack and flip phones with decorations is so very late 00's.

Hell the entire show has that feel of very much being from the time period of like 07-11. I'm enjoying it for the most part but I'm wondering how much the feeling of it being a throwback to late middle school/early high school is helping me do so cause I'm annoyed at how much the show is trying to pretend Taiga and Ryuji isn't the final ship. And there's been enough foreshadowing(also the fucking title) that I feel pretty confident it will be... but maybe the point is to swerve on that later... Even if it is, I think dropping some of the foreshadowing so that it didn't have to be denied so hard would have been better.

Taiga is way more violent than I expected, esp since Ryuji isn't like some sorta supernatural tank.

Why does the student council president look so similar to the fifth person in the OP, are they going to be like siblings with different last names or something.

Steins;Gate! I mean that's always been his definitive role, and that was just last season.

But Tatsumi is absolutely a character that I don't think anybody but him could have possibly done justice, maybe even just as much as him as Okabe.

I think it's hard to judge. If you're looking at raw streaming numbers over here you'd be tricked into thinking Goblin Slayer is a good show that people enjoy, and I don't know about a reliable way to track the interest in Japan since physical anime sales are dying.

I should have waited to post a top five list, because I'm caught up on Iroduku now and it's a definite contender to reach at least fifth place if it manages to end well. I feel like the only discussion of it I've seen here was people mentioning that they dropped it, but Iroduku is one of those rare things where all the individual elements really appeal to me specifically. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that most other people wouldn't enjoy it as much.

I'm loving it so far, though. The magical element adds a lot of... well, magic to the setting. There was one sequence where I actually sat up in my chair and leaned in close in awe of what was happening on-screen, and that was the point where I knew it was something special. A lot of things feel like they have a deeper, symbolic meaning that I'll enjoy considering in the coming days. The actual plot is a bit slow, but I'm appreciating that too. Like, there's been some drama but there hasn't been any drama, if that makes sense. These all feel like real people, reacting to things the way real people would. I really like Hitomi and Kohaku, but I've been pleasantly surprised at how good all the other characters are too.

For me, Iroduku is simultaneously invoking a sense of nostalgia and the wonder of discovering something new. Depending on how it ends, this might honestly become anime of the season for me... though there are a lot of ways I can see it screwing up too so I'll try not to get my hopes up too high!
